New Doom Movie in Development

Universal Pictures is working on a brand-new Doom movie adaptation and they already signed up actress/singer Nina Bergman for the project. The name needs no introduction at this point as if you do not know it as one of the best first-person shooter games that is ever made then you might know it as another disastrous video game movie from 2005 that starred WWE megastar Dwayne Johnson (Baywatch, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Karl Urban (Dredd, Thor: Ragnarok).

The story of Doom is about a marine, who goes by the name "Doomguy" or "Doomslayer" to gamers, who finds himself on Mars slaying hordes of demons pouring in through a gate to Hell. 2016 marks the release of fourth and latest installment of the series from id Software as a reboot and earned critical acclaim for its fast-paced combat system. Despite having a big-named Hollywood superstar like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the movie failed badly because of a poorly written script that has all the cast members just wandering around the Mars facility for a huge chunk of its entirety while they look for those mutated creatures. All of these led the film to follow a disastrous box-office score and tons of negative reviews. Though there were rumors about Universal considering a reboot for Doom but no official statements were made.

After Nina Bergman recently Tweeted out about her involvement into the next “Doom” movie, it become sort of official. She didn't mention any other details of whoever is involved in cast alongside her except for her own involvement.

Although, Dwayne's involvement to 2005's Doom movie is always punned, he recently is breaking the "video game curse" with his recent Rampage, which is also an adaptation of a 1986 arcade game of the same name that is earning critical and commercial success these days. It even has a 50% score in review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty high for the genre.

Looks like video game movies are coming back to take their rightful place in Hollywood from this year. The Tomb Raider reboot movie starring actress Alicia Vikander is doing pretty good. A film on Ubisoft’s The Division featuring actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain has hired David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2) as director. We are hopeful that the new Doom movie will perform better and won't screw up if it takes inspiration from their 2016 game.
