Octopath Traveler on PC Confirmed by Square Enix

Square Enix is officially porting acclaimed role-playing game Octopath Traveler from Nintendo Switch to Steam.

After accidentally announcing news of their award-winning RPG title Octopath Traveler coming to Steam in an official blog post last week and deleting it shortly afterwards, developer/publisher Square Enix have finally confirmed its arrival on PC.

Whatever reasons they had for deleting original post that has leaked the announcement in advance, it appears that it is indeed launching this year on June 7 and will be released digitally on Valve's digital distribution platform.

Players take on a unique journey from one of the eight main protagonist characters, each following a distinctive yet interlaced path of adventure on a fictional land of Orsterra that would finally have them unite with rest of their peers.

They would often come across NPCs during quest and sometime engage in confrontation using different abilities via a turn-based combat system. Also, they can be helpful at times in building reputation, getting new armor and finding items.

We are still not sure that whether or not the game would go through any significant changes switching form Nintendo Switch to Steam since there was no mention of adding any special feature but we may expect some higher frame rates perhaps.

To match upgraded visuals of modern day consoles, it is rendered in a graphical aesthetic that developers termed as HD-2D, which offers high-definition textures while retaining a retro-vibe capturing essence of 16-bit era of video games.

Previously thought to be a Switch-exclusive, the role-playing sensation has rocked the platform upon release last year by taking only less than a week for stock of physical copies to completely run out in Japan and selling over a million copies within a month.

Octopath Traveler not only met with instant commercial success but critics have praised it on high regards in general and now Square Enix is even working on a prequel game to launch on Android and iOS devices, which will be free-to-play.
