The acclaimed developer then elaborated on how he could relate to Faye more than any other GoW character.

The story of Faye and Kratos meeting, there’s less weight when you don’t know anything that’s coming ahead, right? Meeting her needs to actually feel like something, that you already know the story that we told here, so that there’s a greater weight behind who she is. She’s got a mythology built up.

When Atreus and Kratos reach Jötunheim to carry out her request of spreading her ashes from highest peak of nine realms, they realize Faye was a giant who stayed back in Midgard and eventually settle down with former Greek God of War.

This made her son Atreus belonging to a descendant of a giant, god and mortal, whom she had originally named Loki. Even the father/son duo was getting attacked by Baldur because he was after Faye and didn't know that she passed away.
