While speaking to host Geoff Keighley, game director Hideo Kojima announces Death Stranding: Director's Cut for PlayStation 5 at Summer Game Fest 2021 event, which is a definitive version of 2019 post-apocalyptic action strand game.

A new preview trailer has been rolled out by developer Kojima Productions and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment today during Gamescom 2021 Opening Night Live showcase, offering an extended look before launch in September.

Although originally introduced as a remaster of 2019 original, Death Stranding: Director's Cut is more than just a visual upgrade for new console generation, which includes additional features that are not available in PlayStation 4 version.

Director's Cut adds new equipments like improved stabilizers with thrusters as delivery support tool. Players can also use cargo catapult to launch heavy items across long distances or employ the friendly buddy bot to help carry your load.


Death Stranding protagonist Sam Porter Bridges gets to visit a firing range to practice and train within a simulation for high scores. His arsenal is now updated with a Maser gun and mounted machine guns to efficiently takedown enemies.

Paying homage to Metal Gear franchise, creator Hideo Kojima adds a number of action-packed delivery missions in different areas. Sam shows up at these facilities and dismantles a group of baddies by using Solid Snake-style stealth tactic.


Sam can revisit previous boss battles and repeat playing them in his private room to compete in online ranking system. Eight new tracks are coming to in-game music player for Sam to relax as he takes a sip from a generic energy drink brand.

There is a jump ramp for Sam to do stunts and perform mid-air tricks or head over to racetrack to compete with other players globally. These activities are added in Kojima's dystopian walking simulator for Sam to have fun when he is off-duty.


Nearing end of Gamescom preview trailer shows a never-before-seen moment of Sam Bridges walking towards an ominous doorway. As he looks at waves of sea creatures in surprise, a giant whale comes at him from behind out of nowhere.

Death Stranding: Director's Cut is currently scheduled to release on September 24, 2021, adding gameplay changes and new story content. According to early report, original PS4 version of has now sold over 5 million copies worldwide till date.
