GoldenEye 007 Remaster Rumor Renewed by Trademark Filing

A rumor for a modern-day remaster of 1997 first-person shooter GoldenEye 007 by developer Rare Studio and publisher Nintendo has recently surfaced online after an Xbox Achievements list was discovered on live console servers.

Earlier last month, an industry insider claimed that an HD remake may officially be announced very soon. After a renewal of GoldenEye 007 software trademark, reports of a possible remake have been renewed within fan-community.

Ahead of 60th anniversary of James Bond franchise, trademark for "GoldenEye" was granted a second extension to holding company Danjaq, LLC on March 15, 2022, for using characters or other trademarks in several classifications.

Danjaq, LLC can use GoldenEye title for "downloadable electronic game software", suggesting at a potential remake or remaster. A re-release could be a part of an anniversary collection in celebration of franchise's 60th anniversary.

However, things are currently on hold due to ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine as the game has heavy Soviet themes. Goldeneye 007 may go through some sort of alteration or even face delay considering events around the world.

GoldenEye 007 re-release has always been a legal nightmare for MGM, Microsoft and Nintendo being its shared rights holder. Microsoft had to halt an almost finished remaster of Nintendo 64 classic last year as a result of licensing issues.
