World of Warcraft Director Denies Rumors of Console Version

World of Warcraft Director Denies Rumors of Console Version

Earlier today, developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced upcoming World of Warcraft: Dragonflight DLC expansion pack and Wrath of the Lich King Classic server launch has also been confirmed for 2022.

In light of upcoming Dragonflight DLC expansion reveal recently, rumors for a console port for World of Warcraft has been circulating online but game director has declined any such claims by stating currently there is no plan for it.


World of Warcraft director Ion Hazzikostas have addressed long-running rumors for a console version in a recent interview. He quickly dismisses that idea saying it is solely for players on PC and its controller support is also for them.

Earlier in 2020, WoW source code for controller support was leaked online and a lot of people assumed that Blizzard's fan-favorite MMORPG may finally be heading to PlayStation and Xbox consoles but it wasn't officially confirmed.


Another leak has revealed source code for World of Warcraft: Complete Edition in "Upcoming" category of Xbox website possibly hinted at Xbox version getting announced during The Game Awards 2021 but it never really happened.

After recent acquisition of Activision/Blizzard by Microsoft, rumor for WoW to launch on Xbox begin to surface online. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands added controller support to increase overall accessibility with variety of tweaks.


Xbox fans can only hope to have World of Warcraft on consoles just like how Final Fantasy XIV is available on PlayStation platforms. For now, Hazzikostas dismisses hopes for a console port but Blizzard can also consider it for future.

World of Warcraft only allows PC players to enjoy its new UI overhaul and latest major rework for now. Blizzard will be announcing sign-ups for Dragonflight alpha and beta very soon as well as a launch date for Lich King Classic server.
