Resident Evil 4 Remake Will Add New Crossbow Weapon and Remove QTEs

An extended gameplay footage for upcoming survival horror game Resident Evil 4 Remake from developer/publisher Capcom was revealed during Resident Evil Showcase event, showing many classic elements to return with improvements.

Capcom has already won over series fans with their faithful recreation of 2005 original and now readying up for its release later next month. Meanwhile, a new Game Informer feature shares a few new details about Resident Evil 4 Remake.

In recent issue of Game Informer, a 12-page feature delves deep into various aspects of remake for RE4, including changes over original game like gameplay options, role of Ashley, side-quests, new weapon and removal of quick-time event.

Series protagonist Leon S. Kennedy will take on side-quests from blue flyers posted around each area. He may find tasks like delivering three snake carcasses, tracking down an infected to kill it and Blue Medallions quest from original game.

After rescuing Ashley, you can simply tell her to follow you closely or stay further back but she'll still be around at all times. Capcom did this to prevent players from keeping her in a safe corner and telling her not to move, like original game.

Ashley won't have a health bar anymore but will be in a downed state after she takes too much damage at some point. Leon must revive her in due time by holding a button before she gets hit again in her knocked state, otherwise she dies.

There are additional two-person puzzles to make Ashley more useful than before, like lifting her up to a platform for her to kick down a ladder. Or, sending her through a crawlspace to unlock a door that has been locked from the other side.

Aside from Ashley sections, Capcom wanted to remove or replace many quick-time events they had it original RE4 and instead replace them with better suited mechanic like allowing player to use a combat knife to get free of enemy grasp.

Although using his knife is a change for repeated mashing of X button, you can still resort to old ways. You can parry melee attacks with a knife but it can break over time unless you improve its durability with a little help from the Merchant.

Ganados are not like regular zombie enemies and once they are knocked out, you will see them convulsing on the ground. Whenever they do this, Leon must perform a ground execution move or they will just get back stronger than before.

Upcoming remake features six different control schemes, including one that is based on original 2005 layout for long-time series fans. RE4Make also comes with quick weapon select feature to allow Leon to equip guns, knives or explosives.

Players can equip up to eight guns and can quickly switch it between knives or explosives during a fight. Original game's iconic laser sight is now replaced with a reticle like modern shooters but players can find an attachable laser sight later.

Game Informer has also released an exclusive gameplay walkthrough of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Chapter 5.

You can wield a new crossbow weapon for stealth, which fires arrows that can be collected and used later on. Players will get rewards for each side-quest by Merchant and gunpowders can be combined to make ammo like recent remakes.

Resident Evil 4 Remake will be launching for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 24, 2023. Pre-order is available now across all digital stores including bonus like attaché case with handgun ammo charms.
