Gears 6 Reportedly in Full Development

A remastered bundle of previous Gears of War franchise entries was reportedly getting a Halo: Master Chief Collection-style re-release from developer The Coalition last year but it was never announced thus far due to unknown reasons.

While waiting for rumored Marcus Fenix Collection, fans were hoping to get an update on next series installment for some time. A latest report suggests The Coalition has begun fully working on Gears 6 after two projects were scrapped.

During recent episode of Game Mess Mornings show, VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb claims that The Coalition has shifted their attention to next entry in Gears of War series following two other games in development were cancelled.

Earlier in May 2021, The Coalition confirmed preparing for next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5. Later on, a LinkedIn profile of one of their level designers hinted at working on a "new IP" but nothing was announced though 2021.

Grubb added that The Coalition was developing two now-cancelled projects at one point aside from support work for Halo Infinite. They also collaborated on The Matrix Awakens tech demo along with Epic Games using Unreal Engine 5.

The Coalition has cancelled a smaller project alongside another one following wave of layoff at Microsoft. They have fully moved on to Gears 6 throughout last year and therefore, sixth series entry will be their upcoming mainline release.

Netflix recently announced plans to develop a live-action Gears of War movie and an animated series in partnership with The Coalition. They expressed interest to adapt GoW saga that has a huge potential for additional stories in future.

Gears of War series had sold over 22 million copies so far and earned over $1 billion in revenue since Microsoft acquired its IP in 2014. After buying rights for IP, two mainline Gears game and Gears Tactics spin-off was released until now.
