The Outer Worlds Hits 2 Million Sales

Revealed during a Take-Two Interactive earnings call, The Outer Worlds have sold over 2 million copies since launch.

Despite never having a chance to explore possibilities of a sequel of Fallout: New Vegas, developer Obsidian Entertainment saw great success with 2019 sci-fi action role-playing game The Outer Worlds on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Currently awaiting launch of a Nintendo Switch version that has now been delayed indefinitely, TOW has recently reached a new milestone of selling over 2 million copies across all major platforms in just a few months after release.

Built upon action-RPG style of Mass Effect and New Vegas, the game largely focuses on player choices and actions. In spite of having a bunch of major bugs at launch, people have been very positive towards Obsidian's latest project.

This impressive milestone was achieved in its 15 weeks lifetime on PC, PS4 and Xbox consoles. TOW was also available for members of Xbox Game Pass at release and therefore, more than 2 million players has been part of its experience.

These numbers were revealed in an earnings call for Take-Two Interactive, parent company of publisher Private Division. CEO Strauss Zelnick is really unsure whether a day-one release for Game Pass had any negative impact on its sales.

Xbox Game Studios internal development team, Matt Booty believes The Outer Worlds to be an enduring franchise, thus hinting at a sequel. Besides, Obsidian has already announced a new story-based DLC that is coming soon this year.

The Outer Worlds for Nintendo Switch Delayed Due to Coronavirus

Because of recent Coronavirus outbreak, Nintendo Switch port of The Outer Worlds is now delayed indefinitely.

Ahead of its release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, developer Obsidian Entertainment revealed plans to launch a Nintendo Switch version of their 2019 sci-fi action role-playing game The Outer Worlds.

An official date for Switch release of TOW was confirmed by publisher Private Division earlier but that has now been delayed indefinitely due to studio close down that was developing the port, following recent Coronavirus outbreak in China.

Singaporean developer Virtuos was tasked to port The Outer Worlds on Switch, which was originally scheduled to arrive on March 6, 2020. However, they had to close down all of their Chinese offices in wake of a sudden epidemic.

This unfortunate event is causing an unexpected delay to overall work progress and dev team will need more time to complete development. As soon as a new launch window is worked out by Virtous team, it will be revealed very soon.

Private Division has announced this news of delay on their official Twitter account alongside more details.

Previously, Switch version of TOW was planned for a physical release without a cartridge but a download code in an empty case. This was seen as a cash grab move by majority of player community and was criticized on social media.

Whether or not as a response to that feedback, Private Division will now include a game card for physical package of The Outer Worlds. Hopefully, people would appreciate their decision to offer actual value rather than just a code in a box.

The Outer Worlds Nintendo Switch Release Date

Obsidian has finally revealed a release date for Nintendo Switch version of sci-fi RPG title The Outer Worlds.

Even before 2019 sci-fi action role-playing game The Outer Worlds could launch on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, a Nintendo Switch version was confirmed by developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division.

Original announcement for a port for Switch console of the game came from senior producer Matthew Singh of Obsidian by end of July last year and now an official date set for launch is revealed to be on March 6, 2020.

Upon release, TOW will become available on Nintendo eShop for digital download priced $59.99 only. Simultaneously, a physical version will also arrive on retail stores with a download code inside its box and no game cartridge.

This is a huge bummer for collectors who simply don't want to buy an empty case without a game card, which essentially means that many Switch owners would have to purchase an extra SD card after paying its full price already.

After this news was reported by Destructoid, Twitter user @Nibellion has pointed it out by posting an image.

The Outer Worlds base game has a file size of nearly 20 GB on PS4 console and Private Division could have easily ported that on Switch if they wanted to. Even for downloading TOW from eShop and play, players would still require a cartridge.

Bethesda pulled such a trick with physical release of their latest co-op shooter title Wolfenstein: Youngblood. However, CD Projekt Red has fitted The Witcher 3 main game and all post-launch DLCs into a single SD card for a Switch release.

Obsidian has teamed-up with Virtuos, who previously worked on Switch port of Dark Souls: Remastered and L.A. Noire. Also, a story-based DLC expansion is announced to release this year to show support to player community.

The Outer Worlds mostly received positive reviews aside from some criticism for its timed-exclusivity at Epic Games Store. It will be more fun for Nintendo Switch players to enjoy this acclaimed sci-fi RPG on portable system.

The Outer Worlds First DLC Coming in 2020

Obsidian has announced story-based DLC for their acclaimed RPG game The Outer Worlds, coming next year.

Only months after release on all major platforms, sci-fi action role-playing game The Outer Worlds has managed to be nominated as a contender for "Game of the Year" title at The Game Awards 2019 but lost to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Nevertheless, developer Obsidian Entertainment is very much thankful to all players who supported their effort by nominating them and announces to release a new story-based DLC next year to further expand the narrative.

Social media manager for Obsidian forum conveyed this news from developers in a recent post to say thanks for support they received from player community but no official release window for upcoming expansion is given yet.

Despite frequent requests from fans, there has been no mention of DLC plans for TOW in forums or subreddits up until now. Whether or not they will make this a free offering or premium release has to be cleared as well.

Official statement posted in forum gave out no more details other than promising a new DLC for next year.

The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot. However, the journey isn't over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date.

The Outer Worlds Player Beats Game on Max Difficulty, Non-Lethal Run

YouTube gamer Kyle Hinckley took a challenge to beat The Outer Worlds in hardcore difficulty and without killing anyone.

Within weeks of its worldwide release on all major platforms, sci-fi action role-playing game The Outer Worlds by developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division has been making all sort of positive buzz in gaming world.

Since the game is offering players a bucket load of choices to pursue that adds value of replayability, anyone can choose to do anything and one player among all decided to avoid violence and play like a complete pacifist.

YouTuber Kyle Hinckley took a path to of peace where he keep away from killing anyone directly and see what that leads him to. If that was not already tricky enough to pull, he chose to do that in Supernova, toughest difficulty of the game.

Obsidian actually allows players to complete many in-game main quests without having to murder anyone. If there seem to be a situation where that doesn't seem like a viable option, you just need to come up with a way somehow.

In one of his missions, he had to use a computer to wrap things up but there were two caterpillars on his way and he had to hide but since he cannot use the PC without alerting them, a tactical time dilation became his solution.

Another case presented a situation where he had to enter in a room with a character but it would lead to crashes. So, he made that NPC to do his bidding by using a mind control ray that lead into them attacking one another and he moves forward.

Doing this has made the game completely skip an impending cut-scene for some reason but let Hinckley proceed anyway. In most cases, he simply talked his way out of troubles or simply ran away from clashes when deemed necessary.

Not only he was busy evading conflicts but also focused on none would get hurt by any of his cohorts too by setting them to passive mode. Occasionally, he used many tools and weapons to affect circumstances but never directly for killing.

Kyle uploaded a series of playthrough videos on his YouTube channel "The Weirdist" for viewers to enjoy and here is where it all starts.

Surviving in a hostile alien world of Halcyon requires skill and therefore, his character is armed with high charm and temperament. Though he lacked experience due to no combat, but smaller stuffs like hacking and lock picking took care of that.

The Outer Worlds is currently available on PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a Steam release to follow soon as well. A port for Nintendo Switch has also been announced lately for an early 2020 release.

Obsidian Entertainment releases official launch trailer of The Outer Worlds to herald its upcoming release.

We are exactly a week away from developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division to release their upcoming role-playing game The Outer Worlds on October 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Players who love sci-fi RPG genre are already pretty pumped up for this largely anticipated single-player title that revolves around space exploration and a newly revealed trailer starts showcasing more of player-driven story elements.

Small bits of footage from trailer shows off how player character has made quite a reputation into a space colony as a stranger right after waking up from cryosleep and arriving there to find his way into a new world full of possibilities.

Either try to sneaking up on unsuspecting enemy like an assassin or starts smashing up robots in true spirit of a brawler, actions of your character will shape up a persona to people around that also depends on a playstyle that suits you.

However, whether or not you choose to be a beacon of hope for Halcyon Colony or a gruesome antagonist is completely up to you. Whoever you choose to be, it will all reflect on your actions and a branching story will unfold as you go.

Despite being considered an Epic Games Store-exclusive title for a year, PC version of The Outer Worlds is available on Microsoft Store and members of Xbox Game Pass can play it for free against their monthly subscription.

Small pieces of exciting gameplay also offer a glimpse to a colorful alien world and interesting combat system. There will be no shortage of witty dialogue from friendly NPCs as you make progress as a good guy, villain or even a Moon Man?

The Outer Worlds clearly radiating signature styles of Obsidian all over it, which is a bit assuring. Aside from launching on major platforms, a Nintendo Switch port has been announced earlier but no official release date is given just yet.

The Outer Worlds to Host Twitch Stream Before Release

Obsidian Entertainment plans to host a live stream on Twitch Plays for sci-fi RPG title The Outer Worlds ahead of release.

Anticipation around upcoming action role-playing game The Outer Worlds from developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division is steering through roofs as it approaches near launch date of October 25, 2019.

To do something rather different to promote their upcoming title among video game loving curious crowd, Obsidian decided to live stream their latest first-person sci-fi RPG on Twitch platform days before worldwide release.

News came out earlier that TOW will be a pre-release title for Twitch Plays, starting from October 22, 3 PM PT/6 PM EST. It would surely be interesting to see a playthrough ahead of official launch and what story we ended up on.

The Outer Worlds is going to become first ever unreleased Twitch Plays title ever but unlike many other games, it will not have an open-ended outcome because of a player-driven narrative and could lead to total chaos all over.

RELATED: Capcom Wants to Revive Old IPs

Back in 2014, Twitch Plays was introduced as an interactive stream where viewers will make in-game decisions by typing into chat and then a bot will input those commands into game, which turned out to be a huge success for the platform.

Initial test run for their steam was Twitch Plays Pokémon and it took so long to complete as people were driving player character in wrong directions every time but the social experiment was proven to be a success nevertheless.

RELATED: Fortnite: Save the World October 2019 Roadmap

Since RPG titles are driven by choice, it may go so many ways and apparently, Obsidian is on board with that idea of marketing because it will create an anarchical playstyle with some contribution from community which completely suits TOW.

The Outer Worlds will arrive on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms very shortly, followed by a Nintendo Switch version that was announced a few months back, to take players to Halcyon colony on edge of the galaxy.
