EA Cancelled BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic Sequel

BioWare has repeatedly tried to revive Knights of the Old Republic series and failed to do so because of EA.

Based on the mythos of Star Wars fantasy universe, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a joint effort of making a role-playing game by developer BioWare and publisher Lucas Arts back in 2003 that many fans cherishes till date.

This critically acclaimed title received a sequel next year from Obsidian Entertainment and multiple attempts from the original developer to bring a third game was unsuccessful because apparently, Electronic Arts will not allow that to happen anytime soon.

Of course, KOTOR didn't have high quality graphics like any of the modern day titles nor had exquisite multiplayer features, the RPG offered people to make plot decisions. Most importantly, it was free from the corporate greed that players know as micro-transactions.

The game took place 4,000 years before the formation of Galactic Empire where you, as a Jedi would venture through galaxy to defeat an assembled Sith army of Darth Malak while also choosing an alignment with light or dark side of the Force.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

Both of these titles were not part of Star Wars canon anymore when Disney took over the franchise but later, Season 4 of Star Wars Rebels animated series made the lore relevant again by making reference of events taking place during KOTOR.

BioWare later released an MMORPG titled Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2011 to continue the series and fans have heard about a lot of rumor from 2017 of rebooting the series but all of them were eventually shot down with no hopes for revival.

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

In response to a fan hoping for a reboot or sequel, renowned video game journalist Jason Schreier revealed the true scenario in a Tweet.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

Although EA has exclusive rights to publish Star Wars games after they made a deal with Disney, all they did for the last few years is cancelled more games than they released. In their latest venture, they managed to heavily enrage the fans with Star Wars Battlefront II loot box controversy.

When they recently cancelled an open-world game code-named "Ragtag" being developed under Visceral Games, Rogue One co-writer Gary Whitta simply states that Disney should pull the plug on their Star Wars license deal with EA and be done with it.

RELATED: Rogue One Writer Wants Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

According to Schreier, EA has shot down multiple attempts from the developers of Knights of the Old Republic to revive the series aside from canning several other Star Wars projects from some of their acquired studios to rush other games.

With their current development philosophy and games-as-service approach, EA is burning cash and shoving beloved game franchises to drain for no good reason. Seeing their recent behavior, we have good reasons to believe that they have been corrupted by the Dark Side.

Rogue One Writer Wants Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Co-writer of Rogue One, Gary Whitta believes Disney should pull the plug on their Star Wars license deal with Electronic Arts.

Fans of Star Wars franchise doesn't take any mishandling to their beloved franchise kindly and the way video game publisher Electronic Arts has been treating the licensed properties they received rights to from Disney are absolutely infuriating for anyone who loves them.

Avid video game fan and screenwriter Gary Whitta (After Earth, The Book of Eli), who is widely known for his involvement in story development for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story joins host Greg Miller in the daily podcast of Kinda Funny Games to talk about that.

Following Disney and EA making a decade-long deal that gave the latter exclusive rights to publish Star Wars games, fans have had a lot of expectation for the upcoming years to get some super exciting titles set in the fictional universe created by George Lucas.

The studio even acquired Battlefield series creator DICE, Titanfall development studio Respawn Entertainment and even Visceral Games who were responsible for the Dead Space trilogy but what they have done so far is not looking very good.

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

We are in 2019 and by now, all we have so far is just two installments out of their Star Wars Battlefront series. What we should also take to account is that their greedy approach to include loot boxes within the game has caused major backlash for Star Wars Battlefront II.

In their next insane move, EA went ahead and cancelled an ongoing project code-named "Ragtag" by Visceral, an open-world game from the known franchise. Seeing all these catastrophic action, we have a bad feeling about the fate of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

Like any other rational fans of Star Wars, Gary Whitta thinks this is embarrassing and Disney should pull the plug on their deal to take away their license from EA if there is any way for them even though they are only half-way through.

Although he has faith on the upcoming third-person Star Wars game that Respawn has been working on, he really cannot rely on their decision making process after seeing them cancelling project Ragtag that was essentially a "Star Wars Uncharted" game.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Missed Sales Targets

For those who are interested in checking out the full video where Gary Whitta expresses his passion for games and Star Wars, the entire conversation is right below.

RELATED: Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Of course Whitta doesn't voice his concern about the situation from a position of power, neither does he takes business decisions for them but his obvious frustration over their repeated failure is something that the fans can clearly relate to.

As a media giant, Disney should care for the franchise by cutting all ties to the publisher and explore other options for the sake of their own reputation. Obviously, there are many other established and indie studios capable of doing justice to Star Wars.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Voice Cast Returns for Battlefront II

Key voice actors from Star Wars: The Clone Wars series will reprise their roles for upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II content.

Fans of Star Wars hold Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series on high regard and thanks to the #BringBackCloneWars movement, we can now even hope for an upcoming Season 7 to release on Disney's streaming service.

Before the series return with an all-new glory, you have prior chance to get nostalgic with the involved cast. According to a recent announcement, some of the voice actors from the series are returning to their original roles for new content of action shooter game Star Wars Battlefront II.

Back in June, developer EA DICE and publisher Electronic Arts decided to include new content for the game related to Clone Wars, which essentially bridges the three years gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith movie.

The four voice actors from the original series; James Arnold Taylor, Matt Lanter, Corey Burton and Matthew Wood would return to voice for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku and General Grievous respectively in the Clone Wars DLC.

Including a Clone Wars DLC featuring the original voice casts from the TV show not only brings new level of detail to the game but also intensifies the hype (Darth Vader's heavy breathing sound) of the upcoming season that still awaits an official release date.

Star Wars Battlefront II Removes Emperor Palpatine

Following a recent update on last week, Emperor Palpatine is removed from Star Wars Battlefront II for now.

Last year's action shooter game Star Wars Battlefront II from EA Dice and Electronic Arts was one of the most hyped titles before release for adding characters from all three trilogies of films but was heavily bashed later for locking them behind pay-walls. Developers and publishers have eventually come to settlement with the fanbase and players were able to play with Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and many others. However, a recent update has apparently removed Emperor Palpatine from the game.

There is no doubt that director George Lucas has created a sci-fi phenomenon of ages with his Star Wars movie series. Many of the characters from the lore become renowned pop-culture icons over years and the antagonists of this franchise are no less popular than the good guys. One such fellow is Emperor Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Empire and he was part of Battlefront II as well. Scoring a certain amount of points let the players unlock him from the roster.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Night on Endor Update

Just like how audience discovered Palpatine to be a menacing villain in The Empire Strikes Back, he proved to be a very powerful character in the game too. His remarkable ability to use Force-Lightning for electrocuting enemies in the battlefield turns out to be chargeable through walls, which gives players an unfair advantage over opponents. Then he was nerfed down so that he couldn't do intangible attacks. An update on July 4th was about to tune it right but ended up removing him.

Many players and YouTuber communities initially believed that the update probably brought back his previous zapping abilities, even though it was actually designed to work better with close range enemies. EA Dice responded throughout official forums saying, Palpatine is currently removed and despite this being a huge decision to keep him from the game, the Sith Lord will not be deployed again until they can come up with a tweak that take cares of the problem.

"We plan to execute our Kill Switch (KS) for him. This means he will be removed from the game. He will be disabled until a hotfix can be deployed. We don’t take this decision lightly, but we feel it is in the best interest for everyone until a fix can be deployed."

RELATED: Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

It has been a week players haven't seen or heard from The Emperor and nor are they sure when will he return again to Battlefront II in full form because currently, he is still available to play offline. Unfortunately, it looks like Darth Sidious himself has gotten under his infamous Order 66 by Dice for now. Bringing changes to online games for balance is nothing new but the way EA has been handling matters related to Star Wars Battlefront II from the start is quite ridiculous.
