Assassin's Creed Unity Positively Review Bombed on Steam

Steam community review-bombed Assassin's Creed Unity to praise its giveaway by Ubisoft last week.

Although action-adventure game Assassin's Creed Unity from developer/publisher Ubisoft came out in 2014 and not has been a trending title for a while, it suddenly became a topic for discussion for gamers worldwide lately.

After iconic cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris caught fire on April 15, the French video game studio donated €500,000 for its restoration and offered free copies of AC Unity, which led to fans positively review bombing it on Steam.

Last week, Ubisoft offered PC version of the game for free so that people can virtually explore and admire this 856 year-old historic Cathedral. Gamers become nostalgic going back to a French Revolution-era Paris and to re-discover this prominent sight.

It generated a surge of complimentary reviews all of a sudden by Steam community on its Store page and for a game that previously had a "mixed" status, has now garnered a "very positive" reputation after recent wave of reviews came in.

AC Unity players are expressing gratitude for allowing them an opportunity to revisit and appreciate what Notre-Dame was and one even joked that they will need to burn down a pyramid to get Assassin's Creed Origins for free.

Ubisoft took a break from the franchise after a rocky launch of Assassin's Creed Unity back in 2015 but as it seems, players have forgiven them for that now and surprisingly, Steam has not even flagged it for off-topic review activities either.

Octopath Traveler on PC Confirmed by Square Enix

Square Enix is officially porting acclaimed role-playing game Octopath Traveler from Nintendo Switch to Steam.

After accidentally announcing news of their award-winning RPG title Octopath Traveler coming to Steam in an official blog post last week and deleting it shortly afterwards, developer/publisher Square Enix have finally confirmed its arrival on PC.

Whatever reasons they had for deleting original post that has leaked the announcement in advance, it appears that it is indeed launching this year on June 7 and will be released digitally on Valve's digital distribution platform.

Players take on a unique journey from one of the eight main protagonist characters, each following a distinctive yet interlaced path of adventure on a fictional land of Orsterra that would finally have them unite with rest of their peers.

They would often come across NPCs during quest and sometime engage in confrontation using different abilities via a turn-based combat system. Also, they can be helpful at times in building reputation, getting new armor and finding items.

We are still not sure that whether or not the game would go through any significant changes switching form Nintendo Switch to Steam since there was no mention of adding any special feature but we may expect some higher frame rates perhaps.

To match upgraded visuals of modern day consoles, it is rendered in a graphical aesthetic that developers termed as HD-2D, which offers high-definition textures while retaining a retro-vibe capturing essence of 16-bit era of video games.

Octopath Traveler not only met with instant commercial success but critics have praised it on high regards in general and now Square Enix is even working on a prequel game to launch on Android and iOS devices, which will be free-to-play.

Octopath Traveler for PC Leaked by Square Enix

Square Enix has accidentally confirmed PC version of Octopath Traveler after a Korean rating has teased it earlier.

While working on Octopath Traveler for Nintendo Switch, developer Square Enix might have never thought of what a phenomenon it would become but players on other platform could never have that experience because of Switch exclusivity.

However, a Korean game rating for a PC version of the game was spotted online last week, which clearly hints at launch of a possible port and that theory is confirmed recently, according to a now-deleted official blog post.

No longer remaining an exclusive, players on PC would be able to roam through the land of Orsterra for a magical ride via Steam from June 7. Whether or not there will be any notable changes to upcoming port is not mentioned yet though.

That same rating from Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea also suggests for Bandai Namco to publish the acclaimed JRPG on the region. Previously, release of Super Bomberman R title to PlayStation 4 was leaked similarly by a rating online.

Players can start by simply picking up from eight different characters of certain abilities to walk on their unique adventurous path. As your quest starts, there are other seven heroes to recruit in your cause and NPCs to interact with upon meeting.

The game employs a battle system that is very easy to get into and features some exciting boss battles. Aside from its beloved character progression elements, it appealed to audience for a distinctive HD-2D style of graphical aesthetic.

After pleasing critics and players alike, it even becomes one of the best-selling games on the platform. When publisher Nintendo released it on Japan, physical copies of the game was initially sold out in less than a week.

Octopath Traveler is currently available for Nintendo Switch and soon will be heading over to Steam. A prequel game titled Champion of the Continent is announced by Square Enix to arrive on Android and iOS devices later this year.

When developer Gearbox Software launched popular looter shooter title Borderlands 2 back in 2012, it became very popular among players and sold over 13 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful game from publisher 2K Games.

Despite the game getting review bombed at the platform after an unpleasant discovery of it being an exclusive to Epic Games Store, players are taking their interest on the title again by giving it a massive boost on Steam charts.

At March 31, number of concurrent players started to rise above an average flow and by April 8, it quickly became one of the top 5 most played games on the platform when those numbers were pumped up to 59K and more.

Borderlands 2 were an all-time high with a simultaneous number of 123,596 players back in September 2012 and this recent climb is nearly half of that. Aside from in anticipation of upcoming sequel, there are other potential reasons for this rise.

The game is now on sale at 75% discount on store and recent arrival of The Handsome Collection with remastered graphics were offered for free who already owned it and these factors surely contributed to spike some interest.

Besides, many players were just getting prepped up to get back to the series that is back after seven years and perhaps they want to show Gearbox that they are more than happy to wait until 2020 until exclusivity of Epic Store expires.

Whatever the real reasons were behind this sudden growth, it still is amazing that fans showing love to beloved Borderlands action role-playing shooter franchise, so much so that they gave it an impressive 500% increase in average player count.

Fans of the series cheered in joy when Borderlands 3 was revealed at PAX East last month but a major fraction among them from PC platform were angry when it was revealed to be an Epic Games Store exclusive for first six months.

They didn't like it a bit and started review bombing Borderlands 2 on Steam and while Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford added more fuel to that rage machine; Steam actually took steps in retaining its former "Overwhelmingly Positive" score.

Assassin's Creed Origins on Humble Monthly Bundle

Ubisoft's popular stealth adventure Assassin's Creed Origins gets included in Humble Monthly Bundle for May.

Set in ancient Egypt of Pharaoh era, action-adventure title Assassin's Creed Origins arguably is one of the best among recent releases of the series if not the best and its helps establish a century-long lore for entire Assassin's Creed franchise.

We are talking about it because it is going to be included on Humble Monthly Bundle for May 2019 as an Early Unlock game. Typically, there are two or three titles announced but in this case, Origins alone is enough to draw attention of players.

Borderlands 3 to Be Epic Games Store Exclusive

It was leaked via a series of official Tweets that Borderlands 3 would arrive on September 13 as an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Only days have passed since developer Gearbox Software announced their much anticipated action role-playing game Borderlands 3 in association with publisher 2K Games at PAX East 2019 followed by a "Mask of Mayhem" teaser earlier.

No select platform for this upcoming looter shooter has been confirmed yet and so is an official date of release but apparently PC version of the game is going to be an Epic Games Store exclusive, according to a now deleted official Tweet.

Among a series of Tweets from Borderlands official Twitter account was a release date of September 13 when they referenced the game as "Mayhem" just like many times they did before but ended up deleting it because it was way too early.

If that is true then previous theories of it coming on October 2019 is debunked and a brief clip that was posted in a follow-up Tweet also has hint at the title being heading towards Epic Games' digital distribution platform on launch as well.

RELATED: Back 4 Blood Announced

Lucky for us, Twitter user Wario64 has pulled it out of internet archive and posted for everyone to take a look at.

RELATED: Killing Floor 2: Cyber Revolt Update Live Now

People initially thought of it as a sort of "April Fool" prank but then again, why would someone joke about a long-awaited game that is nothing but a jerk move unless it was not meant to come out right now and maybe on a later date?

There is a brief footage on the second deleted Tweet which has the Epic Games Store logo at bottom left beside 2K and Gearbox, which doesn't give away anything about its exclusivity essentially but surprisingly, we see no logo for Steam there.

RELATED: Wolfenstein: Youngblood Story Trailer

Whatever doubts anyone had on their minds regarding these sudden leaks are later addressed by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and he gave us some pretty strong hints at where they are going in terms of distribution in a series of Tweets.

Pitchford directly said nothing about their stand on the situation of the game being a timed exclusive and neither denied nor confirmed anything officially.

RELATED: Metro Exodus Adds Game Plus Mode

Pitchford also pointed out that the upcoming FPS title would be a timed exclusive for at least six months on Epic. He also brought up their support for cross-platform play for PC and consoles but irritated fans are still vouching for releasing it to Steam.

Though he cleverly pointed everyone to 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive for further queries by stating they do not decide which partner or platform to choose when it comes to circulation, fans are yet not happy about moving over to Epic Games.

RELATED: Borderlands 2 VR Comes to PlayStation

Being an Epic Games Store exclusive is not actually a bad thing but considering their launcher having a series of issues including account security; Steam is a better choice for PC gamer base who does not like to shop on other platforms.

Besides, all of previous Borderlands games are still on Valve's distribution outlet and are quite popular on the platform. Therefore, making Borderlands 3 a high-profile exclusive to their rival store makes it somewhat awkward and very surprising move.

Player Beats Sekiro All Bosses, No-Hit

One YouTube gamer horheristo takes down all bosses of Sekiro in NG+2 with an aggressive play and by taking no-hit.

With their newest action-adventure release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, developer From Software has defied every rule they taught players throughout their infamous Souls series but managed to set a new high with a defined gameplay.

Although some people are having a hard time getting past first few bosses and desperately begging for an easy mode, many have already beaten the game. Some even found their way with dreaded boss enemies like it is a walk in the park for them.

Horheristo recorded this entire rundown on New Game Plus 2, which makes each opponent even more challenging than they are while using some wide range of skills and rare upgrades to display true potential of protagonist Wolf in battle.
