Two weeks ago, a leak from ResetEra has revealed that acclaimed action role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from developer/publisher CD Projekt Red is coming to Nintendo Switch, which has now been confirmed officially.

Announced during Nintendo Direct presentation at E3 2019, this ambitious port is titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition and headed for next-generation Nintendo handheld console to arrive later at some point this year.

Switch seemed to be able to run ports of graphically superior games like Doom and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus in past but it has struggled with open-world games like Saints Row: The Third, which turns out to be a disappointment.

CD Projekt Red is currently busy with their upcoming release Cyberpunk 2077 and even though it has not been announced for Switch, the success of Witcher 3 may lead CDPR to consider a port of CP2077 as well if that is even remotely possible.

Although there was no mention of an official release date, the game may launch on December 31, 2019 according to Amazon. Marketing material released so far have also suggests that the title will available on a 32 GB game card.

Currently priced $59.99 for online and retail selling, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition is already up for pre-order. It comes with two of its follow-up expansion packs; Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine to make it worth purchasing.

The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch Leaked

Port for acclaimed action RPG game The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch may have been leaked via an online listing.

Based on fantasy novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, developer/publisher CD Projekt has established action role-playing game series The Witcher and its grown popularity has even led to a live-action TV series on streaming giant Netflix.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the third installment of its trilogy and probably most critically acclaimed among the franchise. According to a recent leak from ResetEra, this open world RPG is about to arrive on Nintendo Switch anytime soon.

Apparently, multiple listings of the game on Asian online marketplaces were freshly spotted with a visible Switch logo on Taobao.com, a shopping site under Alibaba, image of which was later posted on ResetEra forum.

Translation from source reveals that sellers are listing The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition for a possible Switch port. There are also heavy chances of it turning out to be a streamable version and probability of it being exclusive to Japan.

In general, such leaks are advised to be taken with a grain of salt but since more than one outlet has listed it as an upcoming Switch game on their site, it may no longer be a mere gossip and might get an announcement at E3 2019.

Even though Polish video game studio CD Projekt Red is currently busy working on their upcoming anticipated RPG title Cyberpunk 2077, a surprise announcement during their E3 appearance could also be a part of the show.

Lately, Switch has surpassed total sales of PlayStation 4 in Japan and plans to sell another 18 million units until next year, which clearly demands for new titles including ports of exiting third-party games from PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Although this next-gen handheld console has already run games such as Doom, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, running port of a high-caliber game like The Witcher 3 on Switch would be quite a feat.

Fans and players are worried for such a technically demanding game that usually requires one to have a high-spec PC to properly run it would only led to a massive graphical downgrade when ported to Nintendo handheld system.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt debuting on Nintendo Switch would give it a great exposure to a completely new demographic and having to play it on the go only makes it more appealing for Switch owners, which can be a great selling point.

The Witcher Author Demands More Royalties

Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher novel series demands more than $16 million in royalties from developer CD Projekt Red.

Before the first action role-playing game from The Witcher series was released back in 2007 by developer/publisher CD Projekt Red, probably many haven't ever heard of the novels the franchise was based upon or who monster hunter Geralt of Rivia was.

Now that it has become a worldwide sensation followed by two sequels; The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a demand for over $16 million in royalties is made by its creator and Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

Back in 2014, CD Projekt Red stated in an interview that these stories created by Sapkowski were only popular in Poland and there wouldn't be anything today without The Witcher game. Instead of buying rights from author, they simply bought a story that turned heads.

A letter publicly issued by the author claims that the Polish developer studio has paid a sum too low compared to the benefits they have made using his work. It also claims that the agreement between them was for the first installment of the series.

In an interview to Eurogamer last year, Sapkowski expressed his regrets over agreeing to a fixed sum, which he very much regrets now.

They offered me a percentage of their profits. I said, 'No, there will be no profit at all - give me all my money right now! The whole amount. It was stupid. I was stupid enough to leave everything in their hands because I didn't believe in their success. But who could foresee their success? I couldn't.

The author never even believed that his work would ever make any money and agreed to a one-time payment. Through the letter, he requests for only six percent of the profits the franchise has made till date to be paid in royalties.

Considering the massive success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt alone Sapkowski is owed at least $16.11 million, according to the claims of the letter. So, he is expecting percentage for all three games and their expansions and the amount will be even bigger then.

For everyone to take a look at the letter, we have embedded the English language version of the formal demand below.

Despite whatever agreement was made between two parties, Sapkowski can feel a bit ripped off considering the popularity of the series has lead to an upcoming TV show on Netflix that will feature British actor Henry Cavill (Justice League, Man of Steel) in lead role.

CD Projekt Red is also working on a spin-off role-playing game Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, which has players all hyped up as it is coming on 23 October, 2018 for PC and then on 4 December for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Henry Cavill to Star in Netflix's The Witcher

Netflix casts actor Henry Cavill to play the lead role in their upcoming original TV series adaptation of The Witcher.

British actor Henry Cavill (Justice League, Man of Steel) has been successfully playing popular comic-book character of Superman for DC Extended Universe for some time and has garnered praise for his recent role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Apparently, the actor has been cast in lead role by popular online streaming-service Netflix for their anticipated upcoming television adaptation project of The Witcher action role-playing video game series from Polish game developer company CD Projekt Red.

Idea for a television adaptation of The Witcher was first pitched back in May 2017 and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich who has worked in Marvel's Netflix TV universe joined as showrunner when they were looking for a cast to play their lead character.

Then Cavill expressed his interest in playing that role in a recent interview and today, he officially finalizes to play monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia. This one is undoubtedly going to become one of the best Netflix originals worth watching.

Lately, Netflix has become an online streaming mogul and original TV shows they have been producing like Dark, House of Cards, Narcos, Orange is the New Black, Peaky Blinders and Stranger Things that are trending among global audience.

Then there are super-hit shows like Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's The Defenders, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage and Marvel's The Punisher with crazy fan-following because of their association with a larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Henry Cavill will be returning to small screen after a long break from his last work on Showtime's The Tudors. Hopefully, his role in The Witcher will not affect any of his upcoming movies from DC Extended Universe because of his appearance.

We obviously don't expect him of having any major scheduling conflict of his movies either because regular shows on Netflix usually takes only eight episodes per season compared to other network drama of an average of 22 episodes.

Back in May 2017, online streaming-service Netflix decided to explore their distinct take on its lore before producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's The Defenders) was finally announced as series show-runner in December 2017.

Previously, Cavill revealed on late-night talk show Conan that he originally missed a call from director Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Watchmen) to be cast as Superman because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft at that time.

Cavill also took interest in reading Sapkowski's novels and recommended them worth reading as they are really good. Although we know very less about current status of this upcoming Netflix series, script for pilot is complete but no news on casting yet.
