Tom Clancy's The Division Update 1.8 and Free Weekend

Ubisoft has just dropped the biggest free update for their online-only action role-playing video game Tom Clancy's The Division. With that update released, they have another promotional offer for this multiplayer shooter game. Update 1.8 is going by the name "Resistance", which is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now. It will add an extra area to the West Side Pier map, including Resistance and Skirmish modes.

For short details of all the content that comes with Update 1.8, you can take a quick look at the launch trailer clip of it.

In Resistance, enemy teams will join up as teams to fight against you in waves, which is highly unlikely of them. You can firm up your defenses and a lot other stuff using resources dropped by your enemies once they are killed. So, the best you can do in a four members team is to try and stay alive for as long as you can. The changes are definitely made for good and the game is even better than it was before with the update.

Skirmish on the other hand is more like player versus player mode that is designed for two teams of four players engaged in killing each other while the clock is ticking. There is a social hub called Camp Clinton, which is almost similar to the main safe house Terminal. You can buy exotic weapons and new gears to even the odds of battlefield.

Now, along with this free update, there comes a free weekend of Tom Clancy's The Division, offering players to have a trial of the game followed by a sweet discount of 70% off on the whole package. Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft allows you to play The Division for free from December 7-10. The progress made during this period will be transferred to the main game if you choose to buy it following the free weekend.

Currently, the trial will only let you play for six hours, which might upset a lot of gamers but it also grants you access to all three DLC expansions; Underground, Survival and Last Stand. After releasing almost a year ago, The Division has finally rising once again from a slow running as the game have seen an all time increase of active users of 150% on daily basis, having a total of 9.5 million users right now. Hopefully, the numbers will rise following the free weekend experience for sure.

DayZ Leaving Early Access in 2018

Developer Bohemia Interactive's open world survival video game DayZ has been in early access on Steam from 2013 and it has actually helped shape the popular Battle Royale game mode these days. For four years it is on early alpha testing and now, finally the game is leaving Steam Early Access on 2018. That means, DayZ will see a full-game release next year and Bohemia also confirmed that the game will also see its console release on the same year.

Although the developers expected to ship the game back in 2015 but couldn't make it but looks like they mean serious business this time. DayZ's early access period is not only one of the longest in the gaming history but also one of the most exhausting too. However, through a recent Blog Post, they have made known that since 2017 is an impossible target to reach, they will accomplish the goal next year.

DayZ Leaving Early Access in 2018

DayZ was meant to be for PC in the beginning but now we know that Bohemia is thinking of entering the world of consoles too, which by the way is a great initiative for the game. Initially, the game will be ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but as the PS4 version still needs work to be done, we still have to wait for some solid dates on that as Bohemia Interactive works on fixing that in the mean time.

Considering another open world survival game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds heading to Xbox One, this steps are pretty huge for the studio. While the Beta and update 0.63 will turn into version 1.0 or a full game, it surely will not be the final product. Because, they are being realistic here and they simply lack the support they need for it right now.

The fast-paced gameplay and the thrill of survival are the key-elements which got the players hooked to DayZ. This experience comes in effect after hours of playing but on the other hand, modern day phenomenon like Fortnite or PUBG will make your heart racing with that feeling in a much shorter time. Nevertheless, DayZ is a game of its own right and it's nice that Bohemia is finally getting there. Now it sure is the time to get hyped for the community of gamers who are a fan of the game.

There will also be a four weeks limited-time co-op event named Outbreak during Season 1 of Year Three, which will be accessible for those who own Rainbow Six Siege. This event is basically all about quarantine and biohazard. This event will also allow players the chance to win exclusive cosmetics collection.

In the four season duration, each time two new Operators will be brought in. Having special roles in Outbreak co-op, these two operators are very well equipped to handle biohazard situations and are also available for multiplayer. Now this actually seems like a zombie apocalypse setting, where you go out there to put a bullet at the targets to stop them from coming at you.

Not only the game is getting two brand-new maps of Year Three, Season 1 but one of the old one is totally being re-done with new artwork and level design. Following the first Season, the game will be taking a bit more usual approach in Season Two. Two of the new Operators joining the fight will be from Italy and so will be one of the maps. Season Three will mix things up by picking one from Delta Force and another one from Scotland Yard before Season Four recruits two from Morocco.

Rainbow Six Siege came out in December, 2015 and is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for all. Promising a twist in the event, brand manager Alex Remy nodded that they surely are up to something with Year Three and the Outbreak event. Who knows if they are thinking of starting something like Call of Duty: Nazi Zombies or not.

Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

Following the recent backlash from the dedicated fans over the micro-transaction system in the Star Wars Battlefront II game to unlock prominent characters of the series like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, Electronic Arts experiences drop on their stock price. It was EA DICE's attempt to reboot the Star Wars Battlefront franchise with the second title of the series but enraged players worldwide has bashed them over the social media platform of Reddit for their shady practices and progression system.

Plus, one of their insensitive response regarding “pride and accomplishment” toward the issue has set the whole fan-base ablaze, leading many people cancelling their pre-orders for Battlefront II and many sending refund requests to EA. Aside from that, where millions of people were eagerly waiting to get their hands on the game are now bashing the game and its publisher for such greedy approach.

To bring the increasingly worse situation under control as soon as possible, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger had to step up and make EA back out of their of pay-to-win practices. Lately, Disney was already having trouble with directors of their upcoming movies based on the Star Wars universe been quitting over creative differences with the studio every now and then, and having a hassle to get everything back on track.

Plus, they have the release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi right on the horizon and the studio clearly don't want to be involved in any other controversy regarding the franchise before the film comes out. EA had no other option but to comply as Disney owns both Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars. So, they announced that they are backing out of the plan of Battlefront II‘s micro-transactions.

However, Disney's involvement in this issue was not the only thing that shook EA to the core. Recently, the record-setting negativity over Battlefront II also grabbed the attention of Wall Street investors and EA suffers a 2.5 percent drop at their stock price by Friday, November 17. This is also the day when Star Wars Battlefront II saw its release on the market and there is no denying that it affected them.

Star Wars Battlefront II is out now and available to play for all on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Since the game belongs to the Star Wars universe, it can still do well but developers need to make proper and permanent changes to the game before that. The idea of pay-to-win is sickening the video game market as big-time companies are getting more and more interested to it but the protest from the fans have showed that Battlefront II was meant for the Star Wars community, not to become another money making machine for EA.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands for Xbox One X

An Xbox One X enhancements update for Ubisoft's tactical shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands is released and it is about to improve your experience with the game. The biggest perk of the platforms' graphical superiority and a bunch of fixes are how the game is gonna get a lot better than it already is. With this update, loading time will be quick, Ghost War’s progression and UI gets fixed as well while the Ghost War menu lets you directly hit the store.

The team behind the update did not just enhanced Ghost Recon Wildlands for Xbox One X, if the improvement of anything in-game would've made the game better, they did it. You will see that for yourself when you notice the draw distances and better terrain representation. Anisotropic filtering was used to curve out the texture for your sight and distance also helps. Of course, all of it comes in a higher resolution with full HDR support.

Since Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is set in Bolivia, you cannot tell if it could be more realistic than this if you've never been there before. I guess you know what I meant here. If you have a few seconds to spare, you might even admire how lifelike this digital landscape of Bolivia really is. This is surely a technical home-run for the dev team dedicated for the Xbox One X enhancements update and being allied with Microsoft gave them access to every essential tool.

As you play the main campaign, Ghost War or the PvP mode in the dangerous open world, you will realize that this is the next level that you've been dreaming about for a long time. Because of all the tweaking, the surrounding environment is also very live and engaging. An issue with XP gain at the end of the match is fixed now and extensive use will no longer run out of ammo of helicopters.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is already out on all the major platforms like PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for players to enjoy. Still, those who prefer to cherish superior graphical masterworks in their very own Xbox One X console, the update for Ghost Recon Wildlands could be a thing for them. Just saying.

Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

We are only a few days away from Electronic Arts' upcoming action shooter release of Star Wars Battlefront II on this Friday, November 17. However, instead of being awfully hyped for the game, the entire gaming community is raging over EA's sneaky attempt of promoting in-game micro-transactions for unlocking popular characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker of the franchise.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

These days, anyone would hate to pay extra for gaining access to loot boxes through micro-transactions after purchasing the full game against their money. So, when a player discovers after getting his hands on the game that Luke and Vader are unlockable characters, he urged people to cancel their pre-orders.

Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

One of the estimate by another player shows that one should spend 40 hours of playtime on Battlefront II to unlock Luke or Vader, in exchange for credits needed to get the heroes. One of the representatives from Electronic Arts tries reaching out the community by responding as such Reddit:

"The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can."
Subtly confirming that the 40 hours of playtime estimation was right, the response on the Battlefront subreddit did not go very well as fans took their anger and frustration over EA, making it the most downvoted comment in history of Reddit with a smashing -638,669 downvotes. Basically every other person who was looking forward to the release of Star Wars Battlefront II is taking their dig at EA on Reddit after they responded with a lame excuse.

Now, there are valid reasons for people to get angry over this. First of all, people who do not want to spend anymore dollars on the game's micro-transactions will have to play the game for two days just to unlock one of their favorite characters, which can only be unlocked within two minutes if they drop some cash. So, this is actually getting locked up behind a hidden pay-wall.

Star Wars Battlefront II is expected to release this Friday, November 17 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Hopefully, EA will take notes from this harsh criticism from gamers and make necessary changes to the final game before the launch for good.

Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

EA's upcoming first person shooter Star Wars Battlefront II is about to release within a few more days but controversies have already started to hit the fan. Battlefront II Beta went public a few weeks back, players discovered there are locked weapons and player upgrades for money in the game’s multiplayer mode, which led them to criticize Battlefront II's progression system.

Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

As this wasn't enough, a player who pre-ordered the game has discovered that classic Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker aren't unlocked at the beginning. It is no news that among all the characters from the Star Wars saga, Luke and Vader are the most popular and many of the players who pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront II or was looking forward for this one expected to have them already unlocked as playable characters.

Those who already played the game during the pre-release trial have calculated some estimated time period for players to unlock their favorite heroes. Since an average of multiplayer match will earn you 250-350 credits for 10-15 minutes of playing, it appears that you need to spend at least 40 hours your playtime to unlock Luke and Vader, because they require 60,000 credits each. Characters like Chewbacca and Princes Leia will cost you 40,000 credits, which is considerably less.

luke skywalker darth vader
Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker Aren't Unlocked

What else you can do to skip that is to spend your money to buy virtual "Loot Boxes" that contains in-game currency to unlock your favorite hero characters. We all who thought that EA has done a great job by avoiding overpriced season pass DLC model can now see that they will actually make a huge sum by simply putting popular characters of Battlefront II behind paywalls.

Just so that you can compare the price to hour ratio, here is a Tweet that shows the calculation for you.

Naturally, this upsets a lot of people as not many of them thinks that 40 hours of gameplay to unlock a single character is worth it. This move by EA has raised many theories by the fans and some thinks that this absolutely ridiculous grind was meant to encourage the trend of micro-transaction purchases in-game. Battlefront II is currently available to play on EA Access and that means, a handful of gamers who are paying for EA’s monthly gaming service will get an advantage over other players.

Sadly, we cannot help but agree with this point. Because, what's the point in spending $60 full-price for one of the eagerly awaited sequel that has its main attraction locked behind walls that unlocks with more money or extensive playtime? We have to wait to see how it all turns out after its scheduled launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on this Friday.
