Diablo 4 to Bring Back Elective Mode

Blizzard confirms to add beloved "Elective Mode" for Diablo IV to let players assign skill categories.

Fans of hack and slash action RPG game series Diablo are excited once again after recent reveal of Diablo IV at BlizzCon 2019 by developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment following Diablo Immortal debacle from BlizzCon last year.

According to a latest official blog post, Blizzard has confirmed plans of bringing back popular "Elective Mode" system from Diablo III that would allow players assigning specific skill selection slots to buttons of their choosing.

Initially, certain categories such as defensive and primary skills will be allocated to set of buttons on controller or keyboard. What Elective Mode does is that gives players a choice to customize their own set as they want.

Maybe you have one particular skill type set on a certain button and that is not matching with what you have in mind, then you can simply place that skill under a different key using the feature, which gives you flexibility in playing.

Because of a user interface from demo showed at BlizzCon this year, members of player community were speculating if D4 will lock skills under specific slots but Blizzard came clearing all confusion on that by confirming Elective Mode.

Lead systems designer David Kim stated that every skill categories will remain unlocked for all players to let them freely assign and select. Besides, the shown UI is not final just like many other aspects due to an ongoing development.

BioWare to Overhaul Anthem

BioWare is reportedly planning for an overhaul for Anthem to bring it back through a massive update.

Though many have speculated for online multiplayer action role-playing game Anthem from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts to be the biggest release of 2019, it has completely failed to live up to that expectation.

Despite major faction of player community abandoning the game, developers are reportedly working on a huge update in an attempt to revive the anticipated loot shooter, which would either be called "Anthem 2.0" or "Anthem Next".

BioWare to Overhaul Anthem

RELATED: Rust Announced for PS4 and Xbox One

It all started with BioWare trying to publish an unfinished game that they had no clear vision for and then people who bought the game at full price starts seeing a series of problem it has in terms of content as well as many balance issues.

Morale among their development team had been at all time low and lead producer Ben Irving chooses to leave company three months ago. Following his departure, head of live service and community, Chad Robertson quickly took over.

RELATED: Netflix's The Witcher Season 2 Confirmed

Moving ahead, he promised more transparency of work to fans but eventually, Robertson left his position earlier this month. Although he claimed that Anthem is currently in good hands, it is yet not clear who is leading the project right now.

At this point, many sources even started speculating whether the game is dead but recent report suggest that BioWare and EA has not given up support yet as they are planning to introduce a massive overhaul to save it.

RELATED: Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Title Update Live Now

BioWare is preparing a total revamp in a last ditch effort to revive Anthem and are early stage of planning. Whether these updates would be launched one by one or roll out an entirely new game as "Anthem 2.0" or "Anthem Next" is not clear yet.

They can either release periodical series of patches like No Man's Sky or follow model of Destiny: The Taken King. This probably is why they have abandoned a planned roadmap of post-launch content to offer an improved experience.

RELATED: Breath of the Wild Sequel Rumored to Release in 2020

Since their continued support has been lackluster so far, one can only wonder how BioWare is doing on their latest plan. If they ended up releasing a brand-new product, then original players should be allowed to chime in for free.

Since most recent updates did very little to excite their deprived fan-base and Cataclysm mode has performed poorly, developers are to streamline mission structure and loot system of this multiplayer shooter title to address known issues.

RELATED: Warner Bros. Cancelled Two Superman Games

Redemption stories in video game are very rare but sometime there are great comeback stories like No Man's Sky with their regular updates or like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which saw a complete makeover from scratch.

Then there are examples like online action RPG title Fallout 76 from Bethesda Softworks that does little to nothing to fix their broken game and then try to charge their existing players for private servers that many were requesting for long.

RELATED: Play Anthem With Origin Access

Lately, EA has recruited help from other development teams to help core dev team to make progress. Players are still hoping to see the game light up as originally promised and BioWare is working really hard not to disappoint fans again.

Electronic Arts have even added Anthem to their EA Access catalog of title back in September, only seven months within release. Although, we don't have an official confirmation yet, a complete rework of gameplay systems is likely to come soon.

Diablo 4 Will Have Cosmetic Micro-Transactions

Blizzard would offer players cosmetic micro-transactions for character skins and mounts in Diablo IV.

Earlier this month, developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment kicked-off BlizzCon 2019 by officially revealing upcoming Diablo IV from renowned hack and slash action RPG game series Diablo for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

D4 is to take a darker path than its predecessor and will feature more than 100 towns to explore. It is also unveiled recently by a livestream from BlizzCon that they will include some micro-transactions for cosmetic items.

RELATED: Diablo 4 Announced

Blizzard representatives confirmed during their annual event that Diablo 4 will add character customization options and mounts, which players are allowed to spend money on to purchase these items for their characters.

Although developers are currently planning to do micro-transactions solely for cosmetics, there is no guarantee that they won't go for a different model of business in future and that is what concerns majority of player community.

RELATED: Diablo 4 Will Be Always Online

In a discussion with Twitch streamer Quin69, lead developer Joe Shely talks about in-game monetization.

Diablo 4 will be available as a base game, and we're going to have expansions. You also will be able to acquire cosmetics in the game.

RELATED: Diablo 4 to Feature More Gore, NPC and Towns

Shely also confirmed during a live broadcast at BlizzCon that these purchases can be made in an in-game shop. Even if they are in early stage of development, multiple expansions will be part of their post-launch content support.

Despite allowing in-game purchases for customization skins, players will never be allowed to gain power through build. Whether they are going for a subscription model is not clarified yet but for a full-priced title, that idea seems rather irrational.

RELATED: World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Expansion Announced

Given overall scenario of mobile game releases in recent years, Blizzard is more likely to pursue a heavily micro-transaction imbued business model for their upcoming Diablo Immortal title that would largely target Chinese market.

Since Diablo IV is expected to sell several million units followed by multiple paid expansions, they could make those items free for players. Even though deemed harmless, putting a price tag on cosmetics in a looter RPG is never a good sign.

Diablo 4 Will Be Always Online

Blizzard has confirmed that all versions of Diablo IV are online-only and won't support a full offline mode.

Only days ago at BlizzCon 2019, developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced Diablo IV, latest installment of their hack and slash action RPG game series Diablo for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Of course, this news would make fans cheer in joy and maybe even have them forgive Blizzard for disastrous launch event of Diablo Immortal from last year but there is a catch; D4 will require you to be connected to the internet.

Lead designer Angela Del Priore has recently confirmed on a panel at BlizzCon that Diablo 4 will not feature a full offline mode, which means players would need to have a constant access to internet connection if they want to play.

You are free to enjoy solo adventure and noting would force them to party up with others but they won't support a full offline mode. Anyone can experience campaign quest areas and play through dungeons in private anytime.

RELATED: Fallout 76 Buyers in Australia to Get Refunds

Now this decision should not come as much of a surprise to players on PC platform since even for single-player mode, Diablo III would require them to connect to internet same as their other titles like Overwatch, StarCraft or World of Warcraft.

However, this action will most likely to affect player community on consoles, because Blizzard had an exception for those versions of Diablo 3 to play offline back then but now they will only support online play over all platforms.

RELATED: Dauntless: Haunted Shadows Update Live Now

Blizzard Entertainment opting out of an offline mode support for the game is mainly because of their DRM policy but whether or not it would force console players to subscribe to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold is not yet confirmed.

Diablo IV is fourth mainline release from its respective action RPG franchise and has no set launch date yet but according to estimates from analysts; it would arrive sometime around 2021 since the project is still under development.

YouTuber Kyle Hinckley took a path to of peace where he keep away from killing anyone directly and see what that leads him to. If that was not already tricky enough to pull, he chose to do that in Supernova, toughest difficulty of the game.

Obsidian actually allows players to complete many in-game main quests without having to murder anyone. If there seem to be a situation where that doesn't seem like a viable option, you just need to come up with a way somehow.

In one of his missions, he had to use a computer to wrap things up but there were two caterpillars on his way and he had to hide but since he cannot use the PC without alerting them, a tactical time dilation became his solution.

Another case presented a situation where he had to enter in a room with a character but it would lead to crashes. So, he made that NPC to do his bidding by using a mind control ray that lead into them attacking one another and he moves forward.

Doing this has made the game completely skip an impending cut-scene for some reason but let Hinckley proceed anyway. In most cases, he simply talked his way out of troubles or simply ran away from clashes when deemed necessary.

Not only he was busy evading conflicts but also focused on none would get hurt by any of his cohorts too by setting them to passive mode. Occasionally, he used many tools and weapons to affect circumstances but never directly for killing.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Expansion Announced

Blizzard announces Shadowlands expansion for fantasy MMORPG title World of Warcraft at BlizzCon 2019.

During opening celebrations event at BlizzCon 2019, developer/publisher Blizzard Entertainment has announced upcoming Shadowlands expansion for massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft.

Despite being fastest-selling WoW expansion, Battle for Azeroth failed to keep up hype, probably because of recently launched WoW Classic but Blizzard plans on bringing more content update for their players anyway.

Battle for Azeroth allowed players a level cap of 120 that many could reach to but rather than going any further, WoW will be capping levels at 60 and everyone currently at max level will start their journey of Shadowlands from level 50.

This action is to ease up leveling process and make players feel rewarded for ongoing progress. Instead of going over all sorts of different content, you can simply play up Mists of Pandaria expansion as a newcomer and go to level 50.

Though a huge chunk of player community is busy playing WoW Classic mode these days, Blizzard is still keen to add more content update each year ever since it was released and has a considerable size of player base even this day.

Therefore, revelation of Shadowlands was nothing sort of a surprise as WoW has been dropping hints for its next expansion for some time. Ahead of BlizzCon 2019, a leak from Blizzard gear store has showed glimpse of new Lich King, Bolvar.

On top of upcoming gameplay overhaul, a new continent will come to play as well as NPC factions to join up. Realm of Death is not linked to physical plane like Kul Tiras or Zandalar from past expansions, so it may take a weird route.

Shadowlands has always been a part of World of Warcraft lore outside of physical universe from its very beginning as this is where players go after death but its dark realm has never been merged with Azeroth, up until now.

There is Tower of the Damned for class-specific challenges, which will play out in roguelike fashion. Now that Bolvar is dethroned, every race can have a Death Knight and Banshee Sylvanas may appear as a raid boss.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion is currently available to pre-order and is scheduled for a 2020 release window. Blizzard will have a zone restricted for new players only where they can learn the basics before entering world of Azeroth.
