The Last of Us 2 Dog Killing is Listed by GameStop as In-Game Feature

GameStop adds "Dog Killing" as a selling point for upcoming PS4-exclusive The Last of Us 2 product page.

It seems that developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment can't catch a break these days regarding their upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive action survivor game The Last of Us Part II, set to release on June 19, 2020.

After a disastrous story leak, TLoU2 had to prompt its launch and has become available to order again from retailers online and GameStop has decided to include description of dog brutality as a gameplay feature to make matters worse.

The Last of Us Part 2 is going to be an overly emotional experience for everyone and one violent aspect of its gameplay tasks players to make a hard decision where you might have to take down an attack dog just to save your own life.

GameStop tried to hype up players with a feature that is actually a regrettable in-game action and it didn't quite sit well with fans. Not only did they list "dogs" as a feature but unwittingly highlighted players' ability to kill them as well.

Below is what GameStop included in product description for The Last of Us 2 listing on official website.

Dogs - One of the most noticeable new features of the game is the inclusion of dogs. These dogs are in the game to follow your scent and will attack you as soon as they have sniffed you out. The game doesn't pull any punches or "stray" from the idea that while you're playing as Ellie in a struggle to survive, killing dogs is necessary. You'll also have to deal with the fact though that each dog has an owner, which will call out the dog's name and cry in absolute horror when they discover their lifeless furry best friend. You've been warned.

They also made a pun about how Naughty Dog doesn't pull any punches or "stray" from forcing players to kill dogs in some situations. Each of these guard dogs belong to a handler who would cry in horror finding dead bodies of their pet.

Nevertheless, advertising something like dog killing as a "gameplay feature" surely caused many people to turn their heads and it even Naughty Dog made a response to clarify that they were not involved in writing of product description.

Naughty Dog director of communication, Arne Meyer has reached out to clear any confusion of said listing.

Aside from recent statement, developers previously motioned that players won't necessarily have to kill dogs to progress in TLoU2. When you are attacked by one of those canines, it is entirely up to you whether you flee or kill it.

GameStop would likely to remove description of dog "feature" from The Last of Us Part II product page at some point and those who are very wary of any spoilers would better check out reader reviews section with caution.

Throughout this month, Death Stranding offers a huge discount and drops to its lowest price since launch.

Prior to its launch by end of last year, developer Kojima Productions and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment saw immense hype among fans for open-world action strand title Death Stranding by game director Hideo Kojima.

Earlier in March 2020, there has been a price drop from as low as 15% to 25% at select retailer stores and today, the game gets another price reduction at Walmart shop, bringing its worth to lowest ever since November 2019 release.

Reggie Fils-Aimé Joins GameStop

Former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé is joining board of directors at GameStop next month.

As one of the largest retail chain in Western market, GameStop has a reputation of giving unfair deals to customers and using pushy sales tactics for years but recent years have lead them to close over 200 stores and losing $673 million in 2018.

In a press release on their official website today, former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé has been announced to join GameStop board of directors alongside William Simon and James Symancyk from April 10, 2020.

Following rise of digital downloads and pressure from a larger market, GameStop is struggling to see good revenue for past few years now. It was revealed in January that sales for most recent quarter have gone down 25% than last year.

Company executives believe that upcoming release of next-gen video game consoles from Microsoft and Sony in holiday season 2020 can give them a much-awaited sales boost that they are desperately in need of to survive anymore.

However, recent layoffs to a number of district managers throughout multiple stores to cut costs. This only suggests that there could be more in near future and remaining GameStop employees have to do additional work now.

William "Bill" Simon who previously served in several leadership roles at Walmart and former president and CEO of PetSmart, James "J.K." Symancyk with 25 years of experience in retail and consumer products will be joining Fils-Aimé.

Simon has been appointed to audit committee and Symancyk is assigned to compensation committee. Together they will form a board of ten members to guide the company onwards though 2020 and further to turn things around.

Reggie Fils-Aimé joining board of directors at GameStop can become a redemption saga for this troubled retailer after all. His reputation and business skills can at least be helpful for the retailer to regain a positive image in gaming community.
