Jon Bernthal Wants to Star in Punch-Out Movie

The Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal would be interested to play Little Mac in a possible Punch-Out movie adaptation.

After his rise to fame for playing the role of Frank Castle in Netflix web TV series Marvel's The Punisher, actor Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Walking Dead) has played a part on tactical shooter game Ghost Recon: Breakpoint from Ubisoft.

Bernthal was recently asked which video game character he would like to portray on-screen if he is given the freedom of picking his favorite and he choose Little Mac from popular Nintendo boxing game series Punch-Out!!

After his latest appearance in Breakpoint as primary antagonist character Cole D. Walker, Jon Bernthal sat down on an interview where he was asked about what other role from video game world he would like to portray next.

He then expressed his love for '80s and would love to step into the shoes of iconic tiny boxer Little Mac from classic NES console since he has been playing Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! a lot these days with kids on Nintendo Switch.

Bernthal also spoke on how Mac's story of an underdog rising through appeals to him for an on-screen portrayal.

What I've been playing with the kids is Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. Little Mac, he's really small, but that would be really cool I think his rise up through the ranks.

Even though he is not all caught up with many current gen games, the actor stated that he will be interested in a Castlevania project if there is one aside from current animated series and expressed his love for old-school arcade title like Galaga.

Although adaptations of video game properties into live-action media often turn out to be huge disappointment, ventures like Detective Pikachu and Netflix's Castlevania have managed to change that landscape in recent years.

Despite a Punch-Out movie release being a too ambitious of an idea at this point, writers of Detective Pikachu movie are seemingly interested for a live-action movie adaptation of crossover fighting game franchise Super Smash Bros.

Considering Little Mac is a veteran playable character in SSB series, there are chances for Bernthal to live his dream and shine as the boxer whenever interested parties will come forward to make that movie a reality.

Trevor Belmont of Netflix's Castlevania Gets His Own Statue

The success of Netflix's Castlevania animated series is getting new PVC collectible statue for Trever Belmont in 2019.

You can tell that the collaboration of showrunner Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey) and comic-book writer Warren Ellis (Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis, Iron Man: Extremis) worked pretty well for Netflix's Castlevania TV series that they ran it for two seasons and renewed for another.

Based on the action-adventure gothic horror Konami game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse from 1989, the show ha reinvigorated the franchise in gaming and has now led to production of cool collectibles of protagonist Trevor Belmont.

Rondo of Blood was originally released as Japanese exclusive that offer the experience of the best side-scrolling games. Symphony of the Night is not only one of greatest of the series but most probably one of the best games ever made according to fans.

Konami has emulated these games from the originals for PS4 with some new updates given the advantage of the modern hardware. High resolution scaling of 4K/1080p is available along with options for smoothing and a bunch of Trophy support.

There is no official news on whether there would be a version for Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox One for players to dive deep into the legend of Dracula through these titles in near future but we can only hope that they strongly consider that.

The first cinematic opens up with a shrouded person enters the fortress while it was raining outside and Mario's long-time companion Luigi wandering around inside Castle Dracula. He is chased by mummies, snakes and finally is faced by Death itself.

The scythe is swung and his soul leaves the body just before a whip chain hits Death on the face, revealing the attacker to be legendary vampire hunter Simon Belmont from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. However, by then it was too late for our little friend.

Shortly afterwards, when he was facing off against immortal vampire Dracula Vlad Tepes, the lord of the undead unleashed a fiery attack and Simon was about to get it, another valiant warrior arriving straight out of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night steps in.

Richter Belmont is the second recruit from Castlevania series, carrying the same legacy of his ancestor. Both has been in vampire hunting business and now has crossed over to take part in the biggest brawl fest of history.

Simon mostly relies on his iconic whip aside from his signature axe, cross, holy water and good-old fist. Although his weapon is slow when it comes to use it in a fight and leaves him vulnerable for attack, it does have an extended range than any other weapon from any character.

His earlier design has been polished and has gone through a little makeover. Except from animation, looks and voice, Simon and Ritcher has identical move sets, making the latter as an echo fighter of the former.

Sci-fi action game series Metroid has been privileged by having two of their prominent figures; bounty hunter Samus and extraterrestrial dragon Ridley. Now, Dark Samus from Metroid Prime enters the fray as an echo fighter of her counterpart.

The second introduction clip reveals a villainous figure from Donkey Kong Country, King K. Rool stomping over, menacing his long-time enemies Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. This alligator-like Kremling king loves bananas as much as his foes do.

To be honest, he appears to be more funny than scary on any level and throwing of his crown to opponents are a clear example of that. His polished design lets him fit perfectly along with other combatants now.

These new fighters are bringing along new stages themed on their own image from respective franchises. In terms of answering whether or not Echo Fighters are getting their own slots, it actually depends on your likings.

Current addition of brawlers makes it clear that Nintendo and Sakurai has been listening to fan pledges for months and hopefully, some more fan-favorites will pop out for this Nintendo Switch-exclusive.

Aside from being a little too short in length, Castlevania animated TV series was meant to change standards for video game adaptation and it did by breaking a streak on Rotten Tomatoes. On the same year, Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft movies opened up to less favorable critical reception. This year, Hollywood superstar Dwayne Johnson (Baywatch, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) starrer monster flick Rampage debuted with a bang but then failed to keep up in long run.

Back in January, series writer Warren Ellis (Astonishing X-Men – Xenogenesis, Iron Man – Extremis) announced on Twitter that Castlevania series is returning to summer 2018 with eight episodes for this season and Netflix has announced that date to be October 26, 2018. Even though Season 2 hasn't still been aired, Richard Armitage voicing Trevor Belmont already revealed earlier that Season 3 is already in production, which shows their vast confidence on the series' success.

Netflix’s Castlevania Returns on Summer 2018

The animated TV series adaptation of Konami's fan-favorite action-adventure horror game series Castlevania by comic-book writer Warren Ellis (Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis, Iron Man: Extremis) and executive producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey), Castlevania on Netflix was exceptionally well received by the fans. As Netflix was interested for Castlevania Season 2 after the first Season, viewers are growing restless for it.

Recently, series writer Warren Ellis took Twitter to clear some air about the speculation for the second Season and here it goes.

Ellis is the one who helped Adi Shankar to adapt this Netflix project on 1989's Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse from game developer studio Konami. When the online streaming network was pleased with the positive reception for the four episode-long Season 1 of Castlevania anime, they decided to continue with a second Season. However, there were no announcement on when the show will return again and everyone was kind of caught off in the show's success party.

The Tweet from Warren Ellis reveals that the show is returning this summer of 2018 and instead of only four episodes, they are doubling up the number to eight. Which means, we are about to witness a lot more blood, gore, sword fighting and whip-wielding action from the Belmont clan with the undead monsters of night this summer. We are excited to see Trevor Belmont (voiced by Richard Armitage), Sypha Belnades (voiced by Alejandra Reynoso) and Alucard (voiced by James Callis) to return for more adventure this Season.

Netflix’s Castlevania anime adaptation for TV is also proven to be one of the most successful adaptations of a popular video game, which even broke the plateau of bad receptions on Rotten Tomatoes for the type. Many believes that Shankar’s Castlevania Netflix series having critically praised is no coincidence because, his unique take at this horror franchise was what it needed actually helped get it a lot of attention in the first place.

Castlevania Breaks Rotten Tomatoes Record

It's been quite a trend in Hollywood that whenever they see a franchise with a massive cult-following, they feel the necessity of milking that cow, regardless of the genre of that franchise. So far, comic-book movie adaptations are a phenomenon these days on both theater and televisions. Sometime, they even manage to garner critique's praises too. This trend is goes reverse whenever they decide to do a video game adaptation and for decades, it's been carried away like an ancient curse.

There are movies that made huge bucks at the box office like Tomb Raider movies, a series of multiple sequels like Resident Evil or have highly dedicated fan groups like Silent Hill that ranks high among the list of video game adaptations that has failed to satisfy the ever so unsatisfied tastes of the critiques. It looks like there is no apparent end to this misfortune of critically unsuccessful video game adaptations. The most recent causalities to add to the pile are the Assassin’s Creed and Warcraft adaptation films of 2017.

This massive curse streak has been broken recently and the credit goes entirely to the Netflix’s Castlevania anime series that has been certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 90% rating. However, the rating is currently based on 10 reviews that have been given by various reviewers but to officially certified as “fresh”, Castlevania has to get a total 20 positive reviews. Still, the sign is enough for everyone to take a hint about what is about to happen.

Netflix’s Castlevania series is a project produced by Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey) and popular comic-book writer Warren Ellis (Iron Man, Ultimate Fantastic Four). The immense success of the series has also resulted a renewal for Castlevania Season Two by Netflix. With everything going right, there is also news that Shankar will also be taking over Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed TV Series adaptations.
