Doom Eternal Can Run at 1000 FPS

Lead engine programmer Billy Khan of id Software claims Doom Eternal can run at 1000 frames per second.

With only few weeks left from release, developer id Software and publisher Bethesda Softworks are on full swing to promote their upcoming first-person shooter game Doom Eternal for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Dev team of 2016 Doom sequel has been working hard to make demon slaying in 4K visual look glorious and id Soft is claiming to have pushed their game engine to deliver an insane 1,000 frames per second, with proper hardware setting.

In a recent interview with IGN, lead engine programmer of id Software, Billy Khan discuss about latest enhancement made to id Tech 7 engine with a bunch of new features to show off detailed surrounding and hardware compatibility.

Latest upgrades to in-game engine have now lead to much bigger explosions and variety of particle effect in Doom Eternal. Moreover, upper limit for frames per second has maxed out for existing and upcoming generation of consoles.

RELATED: Doom and Doom 2 Gets 60 FPS Support

Whereas id Soft could go up to 250 frames per second with id Tech 6 in past, you can hit 1000 frames per second in id Tech 7. Khan even locally built a custom hardware for testing in studio and has it running at 400 frames per second.

This astounding scaling would not only make Doom Eternal look good visually on present-day consoles but it essentially makes the game future-proof for many years to come when players will revisit it with upgraded gaming hardware.

RELATED: Doom Eternal Second Trailer

Since current-gen console hardware is unable to run such FPS or even capable of handling it, developers got really interested as they can take similar approach in making games that players will revisit in future with high-end setups.

Games on consoles are stressing over achieving a frame rate between 30 and 60 frames per second for more than a decade. Third-person games usually strive near to 30 FPS and first-person titles pushes for locking at 60 FPS.

RELATED: The Elder Scrolls: Legends Halts Development

This higher frame count greatly affects player point of view in terms of smoothness, mostly in shooter genre of games. You can easily detect if frames are stumbling inn first-person perspective than noticing them on third-person.

Also, id Tech 7 will seamlessly scale with your current setup to newest ones that are not out in the market yet. This is great news for PC gaming community as they will see a performance boost every time they upgrade their machine.

RELATED: Doom Eternal Won't Have Micro-Transactions

Aside from working on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements, Khan and his team has worked to make sure that id Tech 7 will work nicely for next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles with more exciting plans for future.

With recent rise of streaming platforms, players will be hopefully able to stream Doom Eternal at 1000 FPS at some point. Meanwhile, developers can start working on new technology to step over 60 frames per second and go beyond.

While preparing for an Early Access release on Steam later this year, Larian Studios recently came to PAX East 2020 event to show off brand-new cinematic trailer, gameplay reveal and highlights through an hour-long presentation.

A door opens up in a room and a Mind Flayer walks to an elder brain tank, which is surrounded by couple of captive hosts. It slowly levitates towards a female Orc kept as prey and slightly loosens her restricts to let her breathe in ease.

She looks up in horror to see that Illithid picking up a larvae from brine pool and putting it on her to crawl its way into her brain. It then moves to player-character after picking another one and forces it into him for ceremorphosis.

When heading back to chamber, there were a couple of Mind Flayer lying dead on its way and it is revealed that they are all in a flying ship. Flying over city of Baldur's Gate, the vessel spreads its tentacles to kidnap a few citizens from street.

Just about then, a portal opens up in sky and a group of Githyanki warriors riding on Dragons arrives to attack the ship. Illithid quickly teleported it to another location when one of those beasts tore up part of that ship and starts destroying it.

Nevertheless, its relentless pursuers followed it through an icy environment and a Dragon managed to set fire over elder brain pool, causing a masive explosion to the squid ship and ends by showing off logo of Baldur's Gate 3.

Larian Studios has set up their grand stage to highlight gameplay elements next by showcasing an exciting intro that is set on 100 years into future, revisiting legacy of classic D&D games and promising delving deep into lore aspects.

One of the tasks players will undertake when playing is to extract that Mind Flayer tadpole from their heads, which is shown in story intro. Apparently, these Cthulhu-like psionic beings will be causing a lot of trouble than kidnapping people.

Primarily, they will be involved in attacking other races and though reason behind their actions are not explained yet, there are plenty of cues to take from trailer above that clearly hints at these beings are on a verge of extinction.

BG3 is played in a top-down RPG format that excels in graphics and executive producer Dave Walgrave claims that current-gen consoles like PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X are simply not equipped enough to handle its superior scale.

When conversing with NPCs, camera angle can be shifted from a from default isometric view to third-person perspective. This completely new take on dialogue presets a cut-scene like vibe that is a signature style of many AAA-games.

Combat mechanics is unlike regular turn-based RPG games and its better for player to consider their in-game actions before heading into a fight as your enemies will take notes and other environmental aspects will play a great role.

Larian has taken most of progressions from Divinity: Original Sin games and implemented them to suit Dungeons & Dragons rule set. This hybrid mixture was what truly needed for a modern day return of a storied franchise like Baldur's Gate.

RELATED: Elden Ring Release Window Leaked

Combat in BG games were focused on dealing direct damage by casting spells or swinging swords, all of which took place on same plane in 2D. Divinity series of games takes physics engine to a higher level and that applies to BG3.

You can push someone off a high ridge or set a pool ablaze with a fire spell unlike many other classic role-playing games on PC. There are not much gameplay changes except for a two six-sided dice rolls to add pen and paper RPG feeling.

Players would be given a required number to perform most actions based on their skill level and see a die roll in real-time on screen. Although rolling a 20-sided die is a minor inclusion to BGIII but it does a lot for a tabletop D&D game vibe.

You can't simply rely on your higher skill set or load game from early save to determine your fate. Of course, no video game can grant players complete freedom but gameplay mechanics of BG3 are designed to offer you maximum flexibility.

Larian Studios has become very popular among RPG fans following their acclaimed run on Divinity: Original Sin series and lot of what they showed in PAX East demo are very similar to their latest work on Divinity: Original Sin II.

Baldur's Gate III has a lot to live up to meet a benchmark set by its series predecessor D&D titles. Debuting through Steam Early Access will let Larian dev team to work out its bugs and eventually deliver a stable game over time.

Doom Eternal Won't Have Micro-Transactions

Hugo Martin, creative director for Doom Eternal has stated to have no micro-transactions or in-game store.

Fans were initially bummed out when upcoming first-person shooter game Doom Eternal was delayed from a 2019 release schedule and is now only months away from its launch on March 20, 2020 for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Due to recent track record of games released by publisher Bethesda Softworks in recent years, players were worried about its in-game economics and creative director Hugo Martin has assured of having no micro-transactions or loot boxes.

These days, you can never be assured that you will get your hands on all content of any AAA-game after purchasing it for a $60 full-price because of predatory monetization practices by major publishers but not when raising Hell on Earth.

Doom Slayer will only be able to unlock skins and it would only take XP in exchange, no real-world money. Martin highlights that there are no outside resources other than skills that you can trade to earn in-game cosmetic items.

RELATED: Doom Eternal, RAGE 2 and Wolfenstein Comes to Steam

In a private Facebook group for Doom series fans, Hugo Martin came out confirming no micro-transactions.

Eternal is a $60 game, not a free-to-play game or a mobile game - we are giving u a complete experience with no store just like you'd expect.

Not only are they staying away from including any pay-to-win mechanics, there won't be an item shop either for unnecessary in-store purchases. All you can get for Doomguy is various outfits with precious XP points or ignore them entirely.

In 2016, Bethesda has avoided such monetary efforts for Doom but released paid DLC packs on multiplayer modes. All of them were made free a year later with release of Update 6.66 with additional reworks for progression system and mechanics.

In a time when every major company in video game industry is trying to rip off their customer by costing extra over actual price of an entertainment product they already paid, such effort would likely be very appreciated by consumers.

Doom Eternal is a follow-up sequel to Doom from 2016 by developer id Software, which is set to arrive soon on all major platforms. A port for Nintendo Switch was announced during its official reveal that currently awaits a release date.

Darksiders: Genesis is Overpriced on Google Stadia

Google Stadia would charge $10 extra on regular price of Darksiders: Genesis and THQ deny commenting.

Latest installment of Darksiders series is a top-down hack and slash action role-playing game from developer Airship Syndicate and publisher THQ Nordic titled Darksiders: Genesis just came out on December 5, 2019 for PC and Google Stadia.

If suffering from a rocky launch last month was not bad enough for Stadia due to lack of promised features and latency issue, Genesis would cost people $10 extra on Google's cloud gaming service than it would for PC version.

Stadia Pro subscribers received an exclusive offer from Google of up to 50% discount on select games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Tomb Raider reboot from 2013 but members got no price off on Genesis purchase or pre-order.

It would cost you $39.99 to buy Darksiders: Genesis on Stadia whereas you can get a copy of at Steam for only $14.99 right now to save $25 right off the bat or get it from outlets like GOG or Humble Store at a standard price of just $29.99.

A price difference with PC version is a very absurd idea for a service that just had a rough launch period earlier and very less to offer in terms of their game catalog, with major titles like Borderlands 3 to arrive later this year.

When reached out to THQ Nordic for comments on price variation between platforms, their representative chose not to speak on their price policy and there is clearly no indication of why Stadia would charge more for a game than other stores.

Some players are trying to point out that console versions of games often cost more than PC release and Google is likely taking an additional $10 to follow similar pricing model but then again, Stadia is not a console at all.

Set before events from previous titles, Darksiders: Genesis is a spin-off prequel that awaits a console release on February 2020. Its plot explores a war between Heaven and Hell, featuring both Strife and War as two playable lead characters.
