Super Mario Maker 2 Adds Online Play With Friends

Nintendo releases an online update for Super Mario Maker 2 that finally adds online "Play with Friends" feature.

Back in June 2019, side-scrolling platform game Super Mario Maker 2 was released for Nintendo Switch by developer/publisher Nintendo, featuring only cooperative and competitive online modes in multiplayer except "Play with Friends".

Players have been clamoring for some time to include the named aspect and without an announcement, they decided to drop a sudden update that lets you to play online with friends, essentially upgraded the game to version 1.1.0.

Both multiplayer co-op and versus modes can now be played alongside people on your Switch friends list. Aside from uploaded levels on Course World, saved levels on Coursebot can be selected and played with friends as well.

You can have voice chat support via Nintendo Switch Online mobile app when your friends are online. Coursebot levels will no longer require you to connect to internet for playing and "Nearby Play" also adds multiplayer modes.

Up until now, Super Mario Maker 2 was restricted to random matchmaking and lacked "Play with Friends" option for long and thanks to a long-awaited automatic update; everyone can finally play user-created levels with a party of friends.

Leaderboards section will show a list of official course creators with more info and some quality-of-life improvements are deployed. Nintendo may see a surge in player count following their latest patch for Super Mario Maker sequel.

Super Mario Maker 2 Release Date

Upcoming Nintendo Switch-exclusive side-scrolling platformer title Super Mario Maker 2 to arrive on June 28, 2019.

A few months earlier, when anticipated side-scrolling platformer Super Mario Maker 2 was revealed for Nintendo Switch at Nintendo Direct February 2019, developer/publisher Nintendo didn't reveal a specific date of release other than June 2019.

Recently, a launch date of June 28, 2019 is announced for sequel of popular Wii U title Super Mario Maker. So, interested players who want to get started as soon as it is out on stores can already place their pre-order in advance.

Though Nintendo previously gave a glimpse of what to expect from SMM2 in its announcement trailer, there are a slew of features left unseen. Slopes are one of the highly requested in-game elements fans have been asking for in it and their wish is granted.

Players would also be allowed to add water into ground stages, something that you couldn't do in a single section of the previous game. Angry Sun from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Bully from Super Mario 64 are among notable new addition of enemies.

Nintendo Direct February 2019

Every major title that is headed to Nintendo Switch this year is announced in latest Nintendo Direct video presentation.

Fans on Nintendo consoles always wait to start each year with Nintendo Direct that comes with all major announcements for upcoming games that will be coming to their favorite platforms and it keeps them on the edge of their seats.

Unfortunately, January of 2019 has passed, so we have all of our hopes invested in February and finally an official confirmation has assured that the broadcast will begin today at 2 PM PT and as we sweat our palms in excitement, here it comes.

In a short window of half-an hour time, Nintendo Direct unleashed a load of announcement for many upcoming anticipated Switch titles and DLC. Many of these games are not launching until the second half of the year or not have a release window just yet though.

Many of the titles that got showcased in the official video above were originally announced back in E3 2018 but fans will be very happy to at least get a definite launch date on their favorite consoles for sure and appreciate it.
