Doom 2 May Be Announced at E3 2018

The gates of Hell are probably going to open on Mars soon again as publisher Bethesda Softworks has teased us so. We are talking about one of the best first-person shooter games ever made and expecting an announcement for a sequel to 2016's Doom from the newly rebooted franchise. If we got the indication right according to a studio executive from Bethesda, then Doom 2 will be announced at E3 2018. In that case, we should be prepared to deal with hell demons on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Back in 1993, Doom introduced us to the madness of first-person shooter games and took players on a roller costar ride to Hell and beyond. After the original, a sequel, Doom II followed next year and Doom 3 came out a decade later. We even received a live-action Doom movie featuring Hollywood superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Baywatch, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle). However, that one failed miserably and entire series took a reboot with 2016's Doom game, which reinvented the franchise.

Lately, Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Bethesda Softworks was present in an event at PAX East and in an interview he was asked what they are planning for the latter half of 2018. In response, he said:

“I couldn’t give you any guesses as to what we’re going to announce and when those games will be out. But I will say, we have a lot of new stuff to talk about at E3. Whether or not folks realize it, this is the hell on Earth time for us with E3. We are in the midst of so much planning and work for all of that content but I’m really excited."
Though he did not mention the word "Doom" or "Sequel" a single time but fans of the series may have already realized what went down there. For those who are still trying to figure out what was in Hines’ comments, we suggest you to focus on his mention of "Hell on Earth". The actual sequel of the first game was titled "Doom II: Hell on Earth", which place on Earth as demons from Hell have laid an invasion. That brings our hero Doomguy back in action to save our planet as well as mankind.

Originally debuted on MS-DOS, Hell on Earth was an overall improvement on everything its predecessor was and became a best-selling title upon release. If Bethesda is actually teasing that title and can do things right like they did on reboot of Doom in 2016, we are waiting for another potential critical and commercial success ahead of time. Right now, Bethesda is probably prioritizing this one because E3 2018 is nearing. Besides, they also announced Wolfenstein II and The Evil Within 2 at last year's E3.
