Super Mario Maker 2 Adds Online Play With Friends

Nintendo releases an online update for Super Mario Maker 2 that finally adds online "Play with Friends" feature.

Back in June 2019, side-scrolling platform game Super Mario Maker 2 was released for Nintendo Switch by developer/publisher Nintendo, featuring only cooperative and competitive online modes in multiplayer except "Play with Friends".

Players have been clamoring for some time to include the named aspect and without an announcement, they decided to drop a sudden update that lets you to play online with friends, essentially upgraded the game to version 1.1.0.

Both multiplayer co-op and versus modes can now be played alongside people on your Switch friends list. Aside from uploaded levels on Course World, saved levels on Coursebot can be selected and played with friends as well.

You can have voice chat support via Nintendo Switch Online mobile app when your friends are online. Coursebot levels will no longer require you to connect to internet for playing and "Nearby Play" also adds multiplayer modes.

Up until now, Super Mario Maker 2 was restricted to random matchmaking and lacked "Play with Friends" option for long and thanks to a long-awaited automatic update; everyone can finally play user-created levels with a party of friends.

Leaderboards section will show a list of official course creators with more info and some quality-of-life improvements are deployed. Nintendo may see a surge in player count following their latest patch for Super Mario Maker sequel.
