Aliens: Colonial Marines' Lame AI Caused by Typo

It took five years for a modder to uncover a single typo in game's code after Aliens: Colonial Marines is released.

Despite belonging to the Alien science fiction movie series, first-person shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox Software and Sega was terribly bashed over by fans and critics alike. To bring back fans of this popular sci-fi horror franchise; the game was initially planned as a canonic sequel to James Cameron’s movie Aliens. Not only had it suffered years of delay before releasing on 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but was heavily criticized for low graphics quality and weak enemy intelligence.

Dedicated modders have been trying to improve the AI of the Xenomorph enemies lurking around so they would behave more agile and intelligent rather than fooling around like a drunken old person waiting to be blasted by Pulse Rifles all the time. A modder from ModDB known as jamesdickinson963 has discovered lately that a single letter "a" added in the word "tether" game's .INI files, which actually messed up code and caused them behave weirdly. Here’s the code:

ClassRemapping=PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachXenoToTether ->  PecanGame.PecanSeqAct_AttachPawnToTeather

RELATED: Halo TV series Comes to Showtime

Instead of coming at player on sight in a blood-thirsty aggression, the Xenomorphs mostly wander around casually like they have other things to do like coming in and out of vents, falling off wall, getting stuck on ceiling or running clueless than tearing you up in to pieces. Apparently, removing the typographical error from the code simply doesn't correct enemy AI behavior but it improves the gameplay by making them far more engaging in a fight than they used to.

RELATED: Milla Jovovich To Star in Monster Hunter Movie

Just after fixing the typo in question, they start behaving more aggressively and play smart. Where the Alien from the first scenario was easily confused and went back when player started running away from it, the bug stayed focused on its prey on second encounter after correcting the error. Their sluggish and erratic movements are no longer there to make them look like bad jokes from a horror movie anymore.

RELATED: Predator Comes to Ghost Recon Wildlands

Gearbox Software simply failed to deliver what they promised in demos and it was nothing more than a mediocre shooter that portrayed the deadliest killing machines of the galaxy as some panzy bugs lurking around. Now, five years after the disastrous release of the title a modder has recently discovered that a single typo in code was one of the primary reasons for the terrible gameplay experience it delivered and upon fixing, it can have some serious impact on enemy AI.

Developers should have noticed this error while testing if they weren't in such hurry to somehow release the game and be done with it, causing Aliens: Colonial Marines being a chaos in spaceship Sulaco. Hadn't it for their sloppy development, the game could've been a lot better than it turned out. Meanwhile, FoxNext is developing an Alien shooter game for PC and consoles. Publisher Dark Horse Comics is also adapting unused Alien 3 screenplay by William Gibson into a five-part comic-book series.

Player Beats Fallout: New Vegas on Max Difficulty, Non-Lethal Run

Hop in for a ride to Fallout: New Vegas as a fan beats the game in the most hardcore way you can think of!

A spin-off title of post-apocalyptic Fallout series, Fallout: New Vegas has a huge following even today who was anticipating for a sequel this year when Bethesda Softworks was actually teasing for their upcoming action role-playing game Fallout 76. Almost eight years have passed after it was launched and players are not yet tired making complete gameplay run of the game. However, we are here to talk about a fan that beats the game in the most unimaginable way possible.

YouTuber Rheteam took a challenge for himself of beating the game on highest difficulty for non-lethal run, where he won't kill anyone or not take some serious damage to himself. He enabled permadeath and decided to do it without firing a gun but with a pair of boxing gloves to knock their socks off if encountered. Also, he did not take any companion for this personal quest, which took him to a series of episodic videos length over an hour each, finally completed.

RELATED: Fallout 76 Was Teased in Fallout 4

Below is the final episode from Rheteam, where he finishes up all the sidequests on his self-imposed standard.

RELATED: Fallout 76 Have No Cross-Play, Because of Sony

Switching to boxing gloves instead of weapons was only to save his skin in cases of hostile confrontations. His S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system attributes were cleverly distributed as 10 Strength, 1 Perception, 10 Endurance, 1 Charisma, 10 Intelligence, 7 Agility and 1 Luck. Putting more emphasis on his agility, endurance and strength was carefully planned to boost his gloves during combat. In 13:24 of the clip, he thought he accidentally killed a Fiend while taking his weapon off.

RELATED: Fallout 76 To Stop PvP Bullying

One other interesting aspect of this gameplay is that no NPCs were killed by him either. Well, he didn't do it himself but rather lured them into an area where his friendly NPCs will take care of the situation. One of the trickiest sidequests were Three-Card Bounty outside Camp McCarran, where three characters; Cook-Cook, Violet and Driver Nephi had to die in order to complete it and the player simply positioned them precisely against each other so that they all were victims of friendly fire.

RELATED: Fallout 76 C.A.M.P. Gameplay

Rheteam presumably used a mod to enable both hardcore mode and permadeath before beginning this journey. Since Fallout: New Vegas was designed to be flexible enough to make it possible for anyone interested to avoid killing, Rheteam just amped up the bar up a node to test his skills. Feast your eyes with a masterful gameplay run of the game if you are a fan of the game try to come up with some more difficult way to make another amazing wasteland trek.

Bethesda Director Responds to Skyrim Port Jokes

Bethesda director Todd Howard says that, they only make Skyrim ports because fans are still buying it.

It's been seven years that action role-playing game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda Softworks has been released and players are still so passionate about the game even today. Keeping that in mind, publisher Bethesda is also releasing the game on various ports every now and then. There are running jokes among fans on them doing ports for Skyrim and game director Todd Howard simply suggested them to stop playing the game if they want all these ports.

Originally, TESV was released back in November 11, 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Then in 2013, a Legendary Edition containing all DLC and a remastered Special Edition in 2016 was launched. The latest in the line of ports for Skyrim has made available for Amazon Echo after it was ported to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, VR and Xbox One. When they dropped a commercial starring Keegan-Michael Keys playing it on the device, many have thought of it as a spoof.

Turns out, this parody trailer released at E3 2018 press conference from Bethesda titled "Very Special Edition" is very real and can be played on Amazon’s Alexa.

Recently, company director Todd Howard is awarded as "Industry Legend" at the annual Gamelab event in Barcelona for his contribution on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series. Afterwards in an interview with Geoff Keighley, he states their reason for regularly making ports for Skyrim, which is simply because fans keep buying the game over and over. He made a valid point with that comment because TESV remains to be the most popular among the franchise till date.

"Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game. That's why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it."

RELATED: Elder Scrolls Online: Dragon Bones DLC Out Now

Skyrim offer players to assume the role of Dragonborn, a mortal man with the soul and power of a dragon, who is destined to save humanity from a fabled black dragon named Alduin. A massive open world environment is up for exploring during the quest and may compelling RPG elements increases replay value for the title. Although The Elder Scrolls VI has been teased during E3, it is still in early development phase and ain't coming anytime soon.

RELATED: Steam Reveals Best-Selling & Most Played Games of 2018

Reportedly, TESV: Skyrim is listed as one of the games on Steam with most concurrent number of players alongside titles like Civilization V, Payday 2 and Rocket League, amassing more than 50,000 players simultaneously. Todd wants the worlds of Bethesda to be sustainable as long as he is here and since the game still sells, releasing newer ports isn't that bad of an idea. Maybe gamers are simply worried thinking that re-releasing an old game probably burns out creative energy of developers.

It terms of sales, The Last of Us had a pretty good run by selling nearly close to 10 million copies in a year after it saw release. When the game was ported to PlayStation 4, it saw another surge on stores for the game. It became so popular that Sony even announced a new PlayStation 4 bundle that offered The Last of Us Remastered with it back in 2015. New BioShock Game Reportedly in Development

Many gamers would agree that BioShock from developer 2K Games was a very unique entry among all other first-person shooter game franchises. 2007 saw the debut of the first game, then BioShock 2 came in 2010 and BioShock Infinite released in 2013. So, it's been five years since the last game of the series was released but we bet many fans are more than ready for a new installment at any time. With that, we currently have news that a new BioShock title is currently in development.

2k studio developing new bioshock
New BioShock Game Reportedly in Development

All the titles from the original series took place into the underwater city of Rapture, which was meant to be a utopia for elites. People become addicted to a substance called ADAM that grants superhuman abilities but also slowly drives them insane. Little orphan girls called "Little Sisters" were used to harvest ADAM and they were protected by giant robot like sentries nicknamed "Big Daddies". Third game of the series, BioShock Infinite took the adventure to the vintage sky city of Columbia.

News editor Jason Schreier for video game website Kotaku was recently working on a story with developer Hangar 13 about Mafia III, when he came to know about this information. There is a secret neighboring studio Parkside, currently working on an unannounced project and it is a new BioShock game. Now, this has come to many fans as relief as many of them thought that their series has ended with the fall of developer Irrational Games.

Although CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick has assured in 2015 that it wouldn't mean the end for BioShock series and they will continue it in future, they have not done anything convincing till date to back that up. However, it looks like Take-Two is making good on their word by bringing a brand-new BioShock game teaming up with publisher 2K Games. Already sold more than 25 million units, this steampunk first-person shooter was also being considered for a movie adaptation but ultimately failed though.

Officially, 2K Games have yet to confirm the validity of this news and there has been no statement from their end yet. With the release of BioShock: The Collection featuring remastered edition of BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the series made it's comeback in 2016 but that was it. There was no more news from them ever since and the entirety of this franchise are put into ice. If they are truly bringing back the series, then we would love to see them explore some new location for their fictional paradise this time.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is Most Profitable Entertainment Product Ever

Developer Rockstar Games' action-adventure title Grand Theft Auto 5 is always on discussion whether how awesome it is to players or how it creates controversies every now and then. This week, GTA 5 is announced as the most money-making entertainment product of all time. Meaning, Rockstar’s crown jewel has earned more bucks in overall than any other books, movies or video games out there from any given franchise.

gta 5 most profitable entertainment product ever
Grand Theft Auto 5 is Most Profitable Entertainment Product Ever

When the game was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013, it initially became notorious for its violent contents but fans of the series loved it. Following year, GTA 5 made it to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles before it debuted on PC after another year in 2015. Since depicted violence in video game sells well, GTA 5 quickly gained recognition for being one of the most successful titles of the series regardless of how much criticism it got.

Whereas many games tend to die after a certain period, Grand Theft Auto 5 somehow managed to keep constant pace at the market and slowly climbed to top. Instead of burning out, GTA 5 always maintained to be on best seller listings. Despite many brand-new titles entering the competition, it never fell back too far in all these years but instead took back their rightful top spot in sales charts every once in a while, which made it one of the most-wanted games ever.

rockstar games grand theft auto v
Grand Theft Auto V Madness

If you look at those impressive numbers GTA 5 has bagged, you will be astound thinking what a giant it has become to overshadow every other media out there. This controversial single title has earned more than $6 billion in total by selling over 90 million copies till date. Movie phenomenon like Avatar, Harry Potter, Star Wars and Titanic has fall behind in line compared to its earning. Not even Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or any single game from Nintendo's Mario series comes any closer in terms of their selling units.

Gang violence, misogynistic views towards women and many in-game torture scenes made it face harsh criticism for past five years. Even a lawsuit claim from Hollywood celebrity Lindsay Lohan (Freaky Friday, Mean Girls) for her likeness for a parody character named Lacey Jonas was filed but ultimately rejected by court. People who thought these aspects would sink the game have later came to realize that it actually fueled overall sales for Rockstar’s controversial title.

Truth is, the single player open world of the game is incredible and players really loved its online multiplayer mode. Now this is an aspect in any games that keeps steady numbers of fans hooked to a game and developer Rockstar Games made sure they do that by providing them regular supply of new contents. Even though some GTA-lovers may disagree on this one being the best GTA game of all time, it sure succeeded to outrun its predecessors and that is impossible to ignore.

We also cannot overlook the fact that this market supremacy of GTA 5 may come to an end sometime in the future if developers shift their interest in some other titles and prioritize their attention to new projects. Later this year, Rockstar will be releasing their Western-themed action-adventure Red Dead Redemption 2 and if it is able to successfully live up to the original game, then there is more business for studio. Still, keeping up with Grand Theft Auto 5 will be a wise idea as it can grind some more juice for the makers.

Lindsay Lohan’s Grand Theft Auto 5 Lawsuit Rejected

Problem celebrity Lindsay Lohan (Freaky Friday, Mean Girls)'s lawsuit against the developer studio of action-adventure video game Grand Theft Auto 5; Take-Two Interactive has finally came to a conclusion. It was about unauthorized using of her likeness for a parody character in the game. Lohan’s civil claim regarding the issue about a game character "Lacey Jonas" against the developers finally ended in highest court of New York state.

Take-Two Interactive has developed the character of Lacey Jonas for the purpose of appearing only in Grand Theft Auto 5 in-game event called "Escape Paparazzi". According to her back-story, Jonas had an overnight rise to fame which made her a focus for media and sensational magazines. All of which are very similar to Lohan’s troubled personal life. Initially, portrait s of Lacey Jones was heavily featured on promotional art for GTA 5, box covers and discs.

When she took the matter to court back in 2014, publisher Rockstar Games claimed it a total publicity stunt on her part. The court however, gave her a motion for a dismissal in 2016 after it was thrown out initially and then the case moved forward with her claim. Now this was quite a victory on her favor considering her notorious status as a public figure lately. A judge of New York Supreme Court ruled out against Lohan’s claim against Take-Two. On March 29, the state’s appellate division has publicly stated the decision by the Court of Appeals.

The subject in question was whether to take GTA 5 character Lacey Jonas as “portrait” of actress Lindsay Lohan under New York State’s privacy laws as she claimed that likeness of her portrait was featured in the promotional materials of the alleged title of Rockstar Games and they did it without her written consent of any kind. The ruling declared that "The portrayal of Lacey Jonas is a satirical depiction of a modern beach-going woman, which simply doesn't identifiable as complainant".

“The characterization of Lacey Jonas in GTA 5 was indistinct, satirical representations of the style, look, and persona of a modern, beach-going young woman that are not reasonably identifiable as plaintiff.”
Also in accords to Civil Rights Law sections 50 and 51, video character may bear resemblance to looks and persona from images or video footage. In other words, Lacey Jonas is not a direct portrayal of Lindsay Lohan, so she can't sue neither Take-Two Interactive nor Rockstar Games for it. Take-Two Interactive is a parent company for Rockstar Games, who are responsible for the creation of one of the best-selling video games of all time, Grand Theft Auto 5.

You get into the ancient city of Yharnam as the Hunter to hunt down the substances of nightmare. Streets are going crazy with a wild outbreak of a plague that is causing death and chaos. The next game on our list is 2016's PlayStation 4 exclusive Ratchet & Clank, which was also praised for its extraordinary gameplay. The original PlayStation 2 version of Ratchet & Clank was the source for the game in the first place. Ratchet and Clank are on a mission to save the Solana Galaxy as Captain Qwark tags along. All the original weapons of the series come to play with the new Pixelizer and Groovitron.

We would like to address a very important update notice regarding the service update for PlayStation Plus members. The monthly free games lineup of PS Plus will add no games for PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita any longer and will only focus on PlayStation 4 titles starting from March 8, 2019, a year from now. All the downloaded games till date will still be a part of your PlayStation Plus games library if you remain a member.

With the growing number of PlayStation 4 owners worldwide, Sony is prioritizing the online multiplayer and special discount on games for PS Plus members. For now, that's all for the month of February and we believe you will have a very pleasant time playing those games by Sony and PlayStation.

This one is about a young boy who is out on a remote island, looking for his father who got lost in a storm. Players are to find the father by run, climb, push, pull or even sing on occasion to solve various environmental puzzles as they go. There is a change of perspective in one certain point which is the real kicker.

Payday 3 Confirmed

Back in 2015, there was a strike of the team of Steam moderators for Payday 2 regarding its controversial microtransaction system despite previous assurance from developer Overkill Studios of never using them. The issue was later sorted when the studio arranged random drops of those items for concurrent Payday 2 players because it gave birth to a small outrage against Overkill. They even tried to justify their action by explaining that the earning will help them support the multiplayer of the game until 2017.

Most recently, Swedish publisher Starbreeze Studios have fully gotten their hands on the rights of Payday game franchise after paying up a good $30 million for it. With that, the game is finally done with the crappy in-game microtransaction system for the foreseeable future. As part of the announcement, Starbreeze also confirmed working on Payday 3 already, which was a great news for this popular crime game series.

Starbreeze Studios now has the complete rights to this popular heist adventure franchise of Payday and the development of any upcoming sequels in the future and marketing of it. This also includes mobile versions of Payday and Payday 2. Effective from May 1, Starbreeze will collect full revenue for Payday 2 on Steam.

For console versions of the game, they will split the profits with the original publisher of Payday 2, 505 Games just as before. Plus, a 33 percent revenue share from the future sales of Payday 3 will be received by 505 Games excluding all the development and marketing costs when it eventually comes out in the market and this is the extent of details we currently know about the sequel so far. We don't even have an approximate release date to begin with but we can only hope that we will get one very soon.

Cooperative first-person shooting game Payday 2 was released back in 2013 by Overkill Studios for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A Crimewave Edition of the game with over 30 different DLC packages was released only for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles at later time. In term of frequently released updates for a game even long after its release, Overkill has set a new high with Payday 2.
