New Samurai Shodown Game Revealed

SNK is releasing a brand new title from their fighting game series Samurai Shodown in 2019 for PlayStation 4.

After a rumor of SNK to reveal their next game for some time over social media, we know now that it is going to be a new installment of Samurai Shodown, currently revealed as Samurai Spirits.

Therefore, we should note that this sword fighting game franchise actually used to call by the same name in Japan when it originally released back in 1993. Obviously this is a total revamp of the fan-favorite series after a decade and at this time; they are planning to release the title in 2019.

A brand-new teaser trailer came along to herald the return of an iconic arcade fighting classic in an all-new avatar.

Opening of the teaser clip suggests that Samurai Shodown is still attached to its roots of 18th-century feudal Japan and Samurai Spirits is set in the year 1787, which means the premise of the game takes place following the events of Samurai Shodown V Special.

Then the narration is suddenly interrupted by legendary series protagonist and skilled swordsman Haohmaru as he slashes though the screen first and then unsheathes his katana on his opponents, taking them all down one by one.

That insane rush of blood squirting from your opponents with each blow of your samurai warrior and each character sprites are now rendered into more realistic graphics using the powerful Unreal Engine.

The latest fighting game to employ the same engine is Dragon Ball FighterZ and we cannot complain about the outcome. Aside from Haohmaru, characters like Charlotte, Galford, Genjuro Kibagami, Kyoshiro Senryo, Hanzo Hattori, Nakoruru and Ukyo Tachibana are also confirmed.

We don't have enough details on hand about the game yet but we do know that it is initially headed towards PlayStation 4. While we are not sure about a PC release, announcement for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One version may come out later.

The last game from the series was Samurai Shodown: Sen from 2008 and the non-canonical release Samurai Shodown Anthology in 2009. The idea of bringing back one of their classics after the launch of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy will definitely make the fans happy.

Samurai Shodown V Special for PlayStation 4

When the fighting games genre were almost ruled by games like King of Fighters or Street Fighter franchise, only couple of other titles make a stand out of the flow. Samurai Shodown just didn't made a difference but also created a whole new unique sub-genre esque category, which is sword-fighting. The most renowned version of the series was Samurai Shodown V Special, which is about to release on to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in its original glory.

The creator studio of SNK believes the game should be introduced to the players as it was actually intended to and here goes a teaser of what we are about to get.

Samurai Shodown title started gaining attention after the release of its fourth installment but the one that truly conquered all was Samurai Shodown V Special. It has created its own place into the fighting game community of both SNK and other companies. The franchise was deadlier and brutal compared to other fighting games of all sorts because of the weapon the characters wielded in-game. On top of that, the overkill fatality moments are top notch gore.

The original arcade version of Samurai Shodown V Special was way lot gory than we found it upon release. Because of its controversial level of violence and an incident in Japan regarding the game has delayed its release. When it finally came out, the fans and gamers in general noticed that the game is heavily censored and that last moment censoring also resulted in unexpected bugs every now and then. Even though SNK acted out quickly in response, the damage was only partially fixed.

With all the original features of the game plus, an online multiplayer mode, trophy support and a gallery mode that will be unlockable with art. Thanks to Code Mystics that this is the first time the original version SNK intended to release is now coming to consoles. Though a certain release date is still to be announced but we can hope that it will probably come out in late summer 2017.
