Marvel XCOM Game Will Reportedly Let Players Create Their Own Heroes

In early June, multiple sources including industry insider Jason Schreier have confirmed a leak claiming that developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games is currently working on a Marvel game inspired by highly-acclaimed XCOM series.

According to a recent report from a reliable insider, upcoming rumored XCOM-style turn-based tactical game based on Marvel properties won't be adding any existing characters but will allow players to create their own superheroes instead.

VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb has recently talked further details about alleged Marvel game being developed at Firaxis. It won't feature any existing characters despite being set on Marvel Universe, to be considered as "a new property".

Rather than having a roster of known Marvel heroes like Captain America, Iron Man and Spider-Man, newest XCOM-esque Marvel strategy game will be focusing more on players creating their original characters and own customized teams.

Players will be guiding their heroes and custom teams into battles in a story that is centered on "supernatural elements of the Marvel universe" and by that, Grubb actually hinted at vampires to be a possible enemy during his recent stream.

Firaxis Games trying to approach a turn-based strategy game full of custom characters actually might work out given how vast entire Marvel Universe is to fit several alternate realities, a few series of events and numerous heroic characters.

Jeff Grubb outlined his take on Marvel XCOM game during recent appearance on Giant Bomb livestream.

The reason that it might still be [considered] a new property even though it's a Marvel thing is that… this is not going to pick up any existing franchise in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe], it's not even going to be existing characters. So it's not going to have any existing MCU characters, but it should take place in the wider universe.

Marvel strategy game is more likely to allow you to customize a group of heroes just like XCOM games instead of customizable characters and therefore, Firaxis Games is not picking any of the existing line of franchises to be a unique property.

CEO of 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick announced to reveal a number of exciting projects in development throughout this year after recent success of XCOM: Chimera Squad and XCOM 2 for Nintendo Switch console.
