Dead Island 2 Playable Alpha Build Leaked

A cancelled version of Dead Island 2 by Yager Development from 2015 has been leaked online via 4Chan.

After being confirmed back in 2014, survival horror game Dead Island 2 was abandoned by developer Techland before being handed to Yager Development by publisher Deep Silver, which was later taken over by Sumo Digital in 2015.

Last year, THQ Nordic has revealed to have restart development once again with Dambuster Studios. Meanwhile, a playable yet unfinished build of Dead Island sequel from Yager has most recently been leaked online via 4Chan board.

When partnership with Techland is severed, Deep Silver has tasked Yager Development to make a true sequel. Their project was eventually scrapped and due to leak of an unfinished build lately, we know now how it would have looked.

Fans have already started playing the cancelled version of Dead Island 2 without any story premise after waited for so long. There are some placeholder assets and at least, you can have an idea of how it was originally planned to be.

Yager was planning to add an eight-player online multiplayer mode but those functionalities are disabled within this build of June 2015. That same year, they left out development and Sumo Digital took charge of entire project afterwards.

By no means, player can get a clear idea of what state the game currently is at Dambuster as many aspects were heavily changed. Dead Island 2 is likely to be a completely different experience on launch than its leaked version.

Though original Dead Island lacked some polish, it had a decent fan-following driven by its combat and RPG mechanics. Dead Island: Riptide came out in 2013 as a stand-alone expansion and was followed by spin-off title Escape Dead Island.

Dead Island 2 is currently under development at Dambuster Studios with no scheduled release date. However, a job listing for art director from April 2020 on official website hints at its possible launch for current and next-gen consoles.

Pirate's Curse by developer/publisher WayForward Technologies changes up its common gameplay mechanics in terms of exploration and uses pirate-themed gears for traversing but doesn't move far away from core elements.

Although a moder-day remake is already on its way, players who already enjoyed 2005 classic action-adventure Xbox 360 title Destroy All Humans! from developer Pandemic Studios and publisher THQ can't surely resist its appeal.

Dead Island 2 Job Listing Suggests Next-Gen Release

Recent job posting on official site of developer Dambuster Studios clearly hints at Dead Island 2 being a cross-gen title.

After being green-lit back in 2014, upcoming survival horror action role-playing game Dead Island 2 was expected to release on 2015 but it went through a difficult development phase and handed over to several studios for past few years.

Last year, publisher Deep Silver has assigned internal developer Dambuster Studios to pick it up once again and recently, a job listing on official website for an art director has hints of its possible release for current and next-gen consoles.

Available job listing on Dambuster website suggests that aside from current-gen release, renowned AAA sequel of Dead Island is currently planned to launch on future platforms and an art director is required to lead their team.

Regardless of its past delays, next installment of Dead Island series is a top-priority for publisher Deep Silver. Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz has assured earlier that the game is still in works and is going to be a kick-ass zombie game.

Originally survival horror game series Dead Island was created by Polish studio Techland and made its debut back in 2011, which was followed up by a stand-alone expansion Dead Island: Riptide and spin-off title Escape Dead Island.

Techland eventually came up with a brand-new IP titled Dying Light in 2015 that would became even bigger success and development of Dead Island 2 is handed over to Yager Development, who previously worked on Spec Ops: The Line.

Soon after, Yager parted ways over creative differences with Deep Silver and British developer Sumo Digital became its new project in-charge. After a while, all progress is revealed to have been handed over to Dambuster Studios in 2019.

Dambuster is likely to re-reveal for Dead Island 2 soon with a release window of next year for players to anticipate its arrival. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be out on market in the mean time if not delayed by Coronavirus pandemic.

Darksiders: Genesis is Overpriced on Google Stadia

Google Stadia would charge $10 extra on regular price of Darksiders: Genesis and THQ deny commenting.

Latest installment of Darksiders series is a top-down hack and slash action role-playing game from developer Airship Syndicate and publisher THQ Nordic titled Darksiders: Genesis just came out on December 5, 2019 for PC and Google Stadia.

If suffering from a rocky launch last month was not bad enough for Stadia due to lack of promised features and latency issue, Genesis would cost people $10 extra on Google's cloud gaming service than it would for PC version.

RELATED: Darksiders: Genesis Introduces War

Stadia Pro subscribers received an exclusive offer from Google of up to 50% discount on select games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Tomb Raider reboot from 2013 but members got no price off on Genesis purchase or pre-order.

It would cost you $39.99 to buy Darksiders: Genesis on Stadia whereas you can get a copy of at Steam for only $14.99 right now to save $25 right off the bat or get it from outlets like GOG or Humble Store at a standard price of just $29.99.

RELATED: MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Launch Trailer

A price difference with PC version is a very absurd idea for a service that just had a rough launch period earlier and very less to offer in terms of their game catalog, with major titles like Borderlands 3 to arrive later this year.

When reached out to THQ Nordic for comments on price variation between platforms, their representative chose not to speak on their price policy and there is clearly no indication of why Stadia would charge more for a game than other stores.

RELATED: Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle Revealed

Some players are trying to point out that console versions of games often cost more than PC release and Google is likely taking an additional $10 to follow similar pricing model but then again, Stadia is not a console at all.

Set before events from previous titles, Darksiders: Genesis is a spin-off prequel that awaits a console release on February 2020. Its plot explores a war between Heaven and Hell, featuring both Strife and War as two playable lead characters.

Darksiders: Genesis Introduces War

THQ Nordic introduces War, youngest of Horseman for upcoming top-down shooter Darksiders: Genesis.

Merely days before E3 2019 kick-started, developer Airship Syndicate and publisher THQ Nordic has announced their upcoming top-down hack and slash action role-playing game Darksiders: Genesis featuring fourth Horseman, Strife.

Also showed up alongside him in action for the latest Darksiders series spin-off prequel game was his brother, War but for some reason it seemed that he never really had a proper introduction in the first place, so here it goes.

War will be playable character in Genesis as well as his brother Strife and even allowed to switch between them anytime in-game, thus they can leverage melee combat prowess of the former and long-range attacks of the latter.

You can also choose to play them separately in two player co-operative mode according to your playstyle preference. Known as Rider of the Red Horse, the youngest Horseman will be accompanied by his graceful phantom steed, Ruin.

RELATED: Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition Coming to Nintendo Switch

Clearly a Diablo-inspired title, the game also has some RPG elements like abilities and weapon augmentations. War will be picking up his iconic blade Chaoseater once again to slay enemy hordes and unleash his fury on battlegrounds.

Up until now, Darksiders series never had a co-op mode and same thing goes for their attempt with top-down perspective. This probably had been an idea they kept for long and now that more than two Horsemen has debuted, it is finally possible.

Even though all three mainstream Darksiders games were set around a same time period, Genesis took place thousand years early based on a plot that is mostly focused on Strife, the gun-slinging fourth Horseman of Apocalypse.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for September 2019

PlayStation Plus free games lineup is featuring Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders III for the month of September 2019.

Those free titles from August are still up for PS Plus members to download before next batch of game arrives on September 3, 2019. So, take time to enjoy WipEout Omega Collection or Sniper Elite 4 if you have somehow missed them.

Earlier this year, Sony's decision not to continue adding games for PlayStation 3 consoles have been a bit unpleasant for fans since they had a lineup of four to six games back then and now their option to choose has become limited.

Given that PlayStation Plus free games lineup has slightly improved from a downwards trend, Sony has probably listened to fan complaints and therefore, replaced Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 at last minute with Detroit: Become Human.

Dead Island 2 Back in Development by Dambuster Studios

Dead Island 2 is not dead yet as developer Dambuster Studios will continue working on the long-delayed zombie game.

Although 2011 survival horror game Dead Island was successful enough to release a stand-alone expansion Dead Island: Riptide and spin-off Escape Dead Island, it never saw release of its officially announced sequel, Dead Island 2.

After it was confirmed back in 2014, it has been five years in development and contrary to what many believes, the game is not cancelled yet. In fact, publisher Deep Silver has now handed over the project to internal developer Dambuster Studios.

In a recent investment report shared by THQ Nordic, it was finally revealed that long-delayed 2011 zombie game sequel is now handed over to new studios Dambuster after Sumo Digital has wrapped up their part on the project.

However, it was not clear how much progress they made so far throughout 2016 to 2019 but they assured not to act as a support studio for current developer since they have already concluded work on it before a planned transition.

Polish video game developer/publisher Techland came on board at first but then they shift focus to Dying Light franchise. German based Yager Development was put in charge when they made a pitch to Deep Silver in 2012.

With a targeted Q2 2015 release window, Dead Island 2 was revealed at E3 2014 and a gameplay video was dropped on Gamescom 2014. Then UK-based Sumo Digital has taken over when Yager backed out from the game in 2015.

As of July 2018, official Twitter account for Dead Island still insisted that their long-anticipated sequel is still in development and most recently, THQ Nordic has backed that claim after assigning Dambuster Studios as its newest developer.

Following unfortunate departure of Sumo Digital and Yager Development, the game has now found its third developer. We only hope that Dead Island 2 find its charm the third time and become a worthy sequel to its 2011 predecessor.

THQ Nordic Acquires Gunfire Games

In a recent financial statement, THQ Nordic reveals acquiring Gunfire Games, studio behind the Darksiders series.

In a recently published financial report of Q1 2019, Austrian video game publisher THQ Nordic has revealed a number of exciting news that are vital for fans of some beloved franchises other than report of their earning and all that.

Among these announcements, THQ acquiring some a bunch of new studios are noteworthy, especially their acquisition of developer Gunfire Games who has titles like Darksiders III and Remnant: From the Ashes under their belt.

Also, they have no plans to intervene an already planned future pipeline of development by Gunfire Games and ready to support them; starting with recent release of Remnant even though it is published by Perfect World Entertainment.

CEO of THQ Nordic, Lars Wingefors has given a statement about their recent acquisition that follows below.

With the acquisition of Gunfire Games, we are strengthening THQ Nordic's footprint in the US and are adding an experienced and talented development team that we know very well from having collaborated on Darksiders. Gunfire will contribute with premier development expertise to the group with realizable synergies from day one. It is with great anticipation of future projects we now welcome the team to the THQ Nordic family.

Obviously, it was years of collaboration between THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games during their stint on Darksiders series has given them a better understanding of each other, which will likely to grow stronger over time with mutual support.

THQ has been busy and making all sorts of moves to turn heads like bringing TimeSplitters co-creator Steve Ellis for a new game, getting a new Saints Row game worked on and reviving Dead Island 2 under developer Dambuster Studios.

About a year ago, it was revealed that video game publisher company THQ Nordic has acquired rights to popular first-person shooter franchise TimeSplitters that has been on a long-hiatus after officially announcing TimeSplitters 4.

Revealed in a latest financial report, co-creator and developer Steve Ellis has joined on board with THQ to help plan future course of the beloved FPS series that is often compared to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark by fans.

Deep Silver acquired TimeSplitters IP last year and Lars Wingefors, CEO of its parent company THQ announced return of Steve Ellis. He is joining as co-director for upcoming TimeSplitters game while help plotting a future route for it.

Since his involvement into the project is mentioned only once and no other details were dropped, it is pretty hard to anticipate what their current position is right now and where they will be in future until further announcement.

Although fans and players in usual has considered the game on a positive note, not everyone was too pleased with the newly revamped combat style and developer Gunfire Games took that to account by releasing a new patch to bring back the classic gameplay.

According to the patch notes, a brand-new combat mode "Classic" has been added along with the pre-existing "Default" and players are allowed to choose between these two different modes in gameplay options whenever they want.

Just like the past games from the series, Fury can now dodge to cancel attacks or instantly use items without waiting for the animation to play out. The best part of this is that, the change of combat mode does not affect your achievements or difficulty anyhow.

Both developer Gunfire Games and publisher THQ Nordic is certain that the new patch will fix things up and make players feel more like the early games of the franchise. Darksiders III is currently available worldwide on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The angry Rocket Raccoon lookalike creature is one of many from a post-apocalyptic world where a plague has ruined everything. Even though we saw this furry buddy so far, the game allows players to heavily customize their character and he may look different.

You can alter body types, fangs, fur and gender with additional robotic parts like claws, legs and wings. You can clearly see the character changed from an Arabian wielding nunchucks into old-fashioned deep sea diving suit wearing ninja.

The player character will also come across many more interesting creatures during many reward based quest it has. For ground and air travel, you will have access to mounts and the way one makes decisions will affect the outcome of the story.

Biomutant looks very promising to become a successful title and has a lot to live up to but if it can manage to do that, THQ will have everything they need to build a beloved franchise from it even if the game is among the most anticipated ones of 2019 or not.

Interpreting an entire planet consumed by the end times and how it has been taken over by otherworldly beings were a lot to work with but then again, nothing was off limits for the artists to go out for and follow any directions if that serves the purpose.

The biggest spin the second sequel took is that they introduced a female protagonist, Fury as the third horseman of the Apocalypse. She is a vengeful mage who is unlike her brothers War or Death and has a lot to offer when she is on the lead.

Also, the game features a near-endless group of enemies that would come across player's path as they stomp though to encounter The Seven Deadly Sins in the endgame. As the story continues further, design inspiration from previous Darksiders game will not go unnoticed to keen eyes.
