The Walking Dead: March To War Narrative Design

Just like every other Disruptor Beam games, The Walking Dead: March to War is strongly orchestrated by an interesting plot. Jessica Sliwinski, the lead narrative designer, and top-notch storyteller, takes us through a deep but concise journey of how she developed the plot for The Walking Dead: March to War. She explained that all characters were lifted from the Skybound comic book. She posited that the rationale for taking characters from the comic book series was just to ensure that each character is the representation of what fans are familiar with.

According to Jessica, The Walking Dead: March to War takes place prior to the events of "All Out War" story from The Walking Dead comic book series. This means that the storyline comes directly from the seat of the comic book pages envisioned by Robert Kirkman.

She ends and punctuated her lines with a brief explication on how different the war game storyline is when compared to any other traditionally story focused genre by saying:

“The narrative designer’s job then becomes determining how best to support this emergent storytelling, and ensuring that any linear story also present in the game both enhances and drives the core gameplay loops (as opposed to distracting from them.”
