It was revealed following an accidental leak from Walmart Canada that upcoming action-adventure game Metroid Prime 4 was set to come out by the end of 2019 but that project has been completely scrapped to restart development.

An idea for Metroid Prime: Trilogy for Switch has been out there when Nintendo had to delay Metroid Prime 4 earlier this year to give players something to keep busy and building up hype for their highly-anticipated project.

Then a new listing for Switch version of Metroid Prime: Trilogy showed up at Swedish retailer site Inet that was scheduled for February 2019. It was particularly quoted there to have a reveal at The Game Awards 2018 but that never happened.

Nintendo possibly held up its official confirmation last year due to unexpected holdup of Metroid Prime 4 and employed original Metroid Prime series developer Retro Studios to start working on that project from scratch.

As a game publisher, Nintendo loves doing remakes and most recent entry in Metroid series, Samus Returns was even a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus from Game Boy system, both of which were a critical and commercial success.

If recent claims are actually true then hopefully an early release window will be set for next year, may be February 2020. Aside from long-awaited Metroid Prime: Trilogy, Super Metroid remake for Switch will feel a lot like Samus Returns.
