According to his newest leaks, Resident Evil 8 originally starts development as Resident Evil: Revelations 3 but it quickly became a mainline title instead when Capcom was too impressed by one of its early version and internal feedback.

Aside from first-person perspective, the game will introduce elements of occultism, sequences of hallucination and insanity with an undertone of major distrust among characters to take Resident Evil franchise to a new direction.

What they actually intended for RE8 to be back then are now set aside in favor of recent changes and may be picked up later. Whether they still make it to become a numbered series entry or a spin-off is yet to be seen in future though.

Of course, any major rumor as such should be taken with a grain of salt up until official sources confirm them and in case of Dusk Golem, there is no exception either even though his leaks on Resident Evil 3 Remake were accurate in past so far.

Although Capcom didn't follow a set path of changes that was introduced in RE7 when it comes to recent remakes of Resident Evil 2 in 2019 and Resident Evil 3 in 2020, these projects were heavily lauded by critics and fans in general.

Both of these titles were overall improvement of their classic counterparts and would likely to inspire Capcom to release more remakes. It is only a matter of time that they will start working on a reimagining of Resident Evil 4 in near future.

However, recent rumors on RE8 sound really tempting and probably may even turn out to be true at some extent or in its entirety, mostly for fans that prefers any new titles of RE main series over Capcom's remakes in recent years.

All plausible indication that came out thus far suggests that next Resident Evil game will be a major game-changer in terms of mechanics that were scrapped before and may end up getting revealed very soon, probably by end of this month.
