Resident Evil 8 May Come to Current-Gen Consoles

Capcom hints at possibilities of Resident Evil VIII: Village coming to PS4 and Xbox One during Tokyo Game Show panel.

Riding on success of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, upcoming survival horror title Resident Evil VIII: Village from developer/publisher Capcom is currently set to arrive for Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on early next year.

Capcom originally had plans to skip last-generation of consoles and release Resident Evil 8 for next-gen only. In a recent panel at Tokyo Game Show, they revealed interest in launching RE8 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

Attending a panel at Tokyo Game Show 2020 showcase, producer Tsuyoshi Kanda sheds light on confirmed launch platforms for RE: Village, citing that Capcom is exploring options of bringing next Resident Evil game to PS4 and Xbox.

Capcom has always been very upfront about their intention of releasing Resident Evil 8 for next-gen platforms. However, apparently they are trying to port RE8 to current console generation too without making any promises just yet.

Kanda has revealed that dev team is not quite sure whether they can get Resident Evil: Village running on PS4 and Xbox One but despite having some issues with loading screen, Capcom is actively trying to make it happen if possible.

Though development of Resident Evil 8: Village was mainly focused on new console generation system for faster loading speed, Capcom is unwilling to leave behind a huge player base and is likely to scale it down for last-gen hardware.
