In spite of all pre-launch hype, 2020 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from developer Treyarch and publisher Activision had a lukewarm release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
Within a week, Season One contents will drop across all platforms along with adjustments and quality-of-life improvements through a major update for Black Ops Cold War on December 15 and to Warzone on December 16, 2020.
Activision revealed a new trailer in anticipation of launching Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 1.
Treyarch continues to look back at Cold War campaign and takes cue from single-player story for major Warzone crossover. Vikhor "Stitch" Kuzmin raids a CIA Safehouse and leaves a note to taunt Black Ops protagonist Russell Adler.
Stitch was involved in creating a chemical known as Nova-6 on Rebirth Island, where CIA raided back in 1968. Adler was responsible for his capture and subsequent torment before he lost an eye and was sent to Gulag by Kravchenko.
He swore revenge on Adler for his suffering and returns after being contacted by Perseus lately. He managed to lure his arch-enemy to an empty mall in New Jersey, surrounded by a supply of Nova-6 bio-weapon and ambushes Adler.
Rebirth Island was originally named Vozrozhdeniya Island and one redacted line from Cold War roadmap ended with "niya Island". Now that it has been teased in recent trailer, this Black Ops location could be a new map for Warzone.
Season 1 update also brings some gameplay changes and fixes for Zombies mode while offering a peek at upcoming content. Treyarch is also deploying a pre-Season free bundle, adding calling card, epic skin, weapon blueprint and more.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone may replace Verdansk map with Rebirth Island in Season 1. Activision and Treyarch promised for a classified experience and Warzone will receive Cold War-themed content in latest update.
