After being critically panned for Resident Evil 6, developer/publisher Capcom chose to pursue a completely different path for Resident Evil series and went back to its survival horror roots with 2017 release of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard.

Moving away from series mainstay of gameplay, RE7 adapts a first-person shooter that offers a decent horror experience and according to an official source, upcoming Resident Evil: Village to have more content that its predecessor title.

In an interview for Official PlayStation Magazine UK, producer Peter Fabiano talks detail about anticipated release of RE: Village. Aside from talking about gameplay features, he reveals that RE8 will be larger in terms of overall length.

Fabiano reflects on how Resident Evil: Village will have no loading time on PlayStation 5 to build up sense of immersion. He also confirms that next Resident Evil game will be longer than what players have experienced in RE7: Biohazard.

While talking to Official PlayStation Magazine UK, producer Peter Fabiano confirms gameplay length of Village.

I’ll just say it's much larger than what players experienced in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard.

Instead of featuring any former S.T.A.R.S. member, Resident Evil 7 starred an everyman named Ethan Winters, who visits a derelict plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana, looking for his missing wife and ended up fighting a family of monsters.

Rather than having him face infected bio-weapons head-on, RE7 highlights on horror and puzzle aspects like early Resident Evil games. Ethan repeatedly confronted and was hounded down by enemies that he can't overcome with ease.

An average playthrough of Resident Evil 7 takes about 10 hours to complete and another hour for each standalone DLC. Obviously, these numbers are not absolute and may take much longer when playing on Madhouse difficulty setting.

For a survival horror game, 10 hours is a pretty reasonable time to keep players invested on the adventure. Though it's not yet clear how long Village will be, Capcom won't have no problem to expand upon what Resident Evil 7 already did.

There will be a major shift in gameplay as Capcom is moving to a style similar to Resident Evil 4, adding crafting and customization options. Ethan will come across a Merchant character named Duke to pick up ammo and various weapons.

Resident Evil: Village is scheduled to release on May 7, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. A short demo is available exclusively for PS5 and a second one is coming across all platforms on spring 2021.
