Horizon Forbidden West Coming in 2021

Dutch game director Mathijs de Jonge of Guerrilla games reveals Horizon Forbidden West is coming in 2021.

As an official sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, upcoming action role-playing game Horizon Forbidden West was announced at PlayStation 5 Reveal Event by developer Guerrilla Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Now that Forbidden West is finally revealed for PS5, game director Mathijs de Jonge decides to talk about its post-apocalyptic story settings, release window and some more in-game details in a newly released developer diary from Sony.

Forbidden West was no surprise to series fans at all and was surely one of the biggest reveals from PS5 showcase. Although Horizon II will not debut as a launch title for PS5, it will arrive within first year of Sony's next-gen console lifetime.

Series protagonist Aloy returns for her second greatest adventure in a distant future open-world that is taken over by machines. She goes out on a journey to find answers to unknown secrets representing her own clan, Nora tribe.

HFW will pick up from where the first game ended and take players from Utah to Pacific Ocean in West though deserts, ruined cities and valleys. Forbidden West will have maps bigger than that of Horizon Zero Dawn, according to de Jonge.

He adds that there will be "virtually no loading screens" due to brand-new SSD in PlayStation 5, one of its prominent features. It emphasizes on immersion by dynamically changing environments when you travel from one place to another.

Mathijs de Jonge had the following to say about in-game world and fast-travel mechanics of Horizon II.

With the additional power of the PlayStation 5, we can make our world even more detailed and more vibrant and more immersive. With the PS5's SSD there will be virtually no loading screens So, in an open-world game like Horizon Forbidden West, if you open up the map and fast-travel from one end to the other, restarting from a checkpoint will be super fast. There were rumors of a follow-up to Horizon Zero Dawn from earlier this year from job posting and dev teasing. Shortly ahead of recent announcement, Guerrilla Games launched a comic-book series to tie-in with events from the game.

Contrary to what many have expected, Horizon II: Forbidden West will not be joining launch lineup of PlayStation 5. Its predecessor title HZD became one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 titles of all time by selling over 10 million copies.

Several reports suggests that a sequel to open-world action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn is currently in works by developer Guerrilla Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment to be released on PlayStation 5.

In anticipation for upcoming "PlayStation 5 Reveal" event, recent posts from Guerrilla Games developers on Twitter have hinted at a possible next-gen showcase for a long-awaited sequel of HZD, which they quickly deleted afterwards.

Horizon Zero Dawn senior quest designer Blake Rebouche has apparently shared Sony's official post on PS5 showcase event quoting, "Join Us". Lead Animator Richard Oud has followed him soon as well by sharing that same official Tweet.

Oud states that PS5 will be future of gaming and told fans to mark their calendars before deleting it shortly after that. Sony most likely wants Guerilla Games to keep things under wraps until they announce Horizon Zero Dawn sequel.

Horizon Zero Dawn has been one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games, selling over 10 million copies by February 2019. At this point, players expect to see Horizon Zero Dawn 2 being officially revealed for PS5 with a 2021 release date.

Guerrilla Games May Have Teased Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel

A deleted Tweet seemingly confirms that Guerrilla Games is working on PS5-exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn sequel.

A possible sequel for 2017 open-world action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn from developer Guerrilla Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment being in works has been teased earlier by a voice actor and a job listing.

A now-deleted post (image posted on Reddit) for a job listing from official Twitter account of Guerrilla Games clearly suggests that a sequel to Horizon is currently in development, which is likely to launch as a PlayStation 5-exclusive title.

HZD is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games that have sold over 10 million copies by February 2019. It was praised by critics and fans for story premise of single-player campaign, gameplay mechanics and impressive visuals.

Sony has already announced to release their next-gen console this holiday season that has yet to reveal its launch titles. Guerrilla Games being one of their first-party studios, everyone was looking up to them following their recent success.

Whatever recent evidence may suggest to, Guerrilla Games has yet to confirm if they are working on a new game that will be an exclusive for upcoming PS5 after all and whether a sequel to HZD is truly titled Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

Former Horizon Zero Dawn Producer Responds to Angry Fans Over PC Port

In response to angry PlayStation fans on Twitter, former Guerrilla Games producer defends decision for PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn.

Right after developer Guerrilla Games has officially confirmed a month-old rumor for PC version of 2017 action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn lately, it sparked a reaction among PlayStation 4 player community online.

Many who are upset are part of a vocal minority that is not happy that HZD will no longer be an exclusive to Sony platform. A former producer at Guerrilla Games, Sam Sharma recently reaches out one of these angry fans with a response.

When an irritated PS4 player shared a video clip of a trashed office earlier, implying that it was vandalized by that outraged fan as a reaction to the announcement, former producer of the game Sam Sharma decided to reply back.

This user @THEAP99 on Twitter has tagged a number of Sony associates who worked on or somehow have ties to Horizon, which probably lead Sharma to take notice of this ranting video that has now been watched over a million times.

Upon seeing a heated response, Sharma reaches out to that fuming fan by saying the following on his Twitter.

When Sharma chimed in to that Tweet, PlayStation fans on social media became split arguing over merit of this move from Sony. Many are really appreciative to decision of HZD port and then some are on serious meltdown mode.

Soon, it was all revealed to be a prank from a parody account that was planned for months. Nevertheless, a lot of fans are really annoyed that a PlayStation 4-exclusvie game would now become available to another platform.

Some are even pointing out that "Only on PlayStation" marketing line on games are literally a scam then. As Sharma pointed out, releasing a previously exclusive game for a new platform after years shouldn't takeaway one's enjoyment.

Horizon Zero Dawn may have sold its share of units on PS4 console already but its sales number on PC may be a driving factor for them to consider this strategy in future and there could be more ports from current console generation.

Horizon Zero Dawn Coming to PC in Summer 2020

PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn will be coming on summer 2020 and Sony has no plans to port every PlayStation exclusives.

Last year, a rumor from Russian YouTuber Anton Logvinov hinted that critically-acclaimed 2017 action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn, a PlayStation 4-exclusive from developer Guerrilla Games may get a PC port by early 2020.

Then in January 2020, a Kotaku report from Jason Schreier has confirmed that very claim and most recently, Hermen Hulst of Worldwide Studios has announced a PC version of HZD has been scheduled to come out in summer 2020.

RELAETD: Horizon Zero Dawn May Come to PC

Horizon Zero Dawn was launched in February 2017 by publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and become one of the best-selling PS4 games of all time by selling over 10 million copies worldwide by its second year anniversary.

HZD getting a PC port is a first for Sony to release one of their internally developed first-party titles to a platform outside of PlayStation, except for PlanetSide 2 from Sony Online Entertainment and this is a very unusual for them.

RELAETD: Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel Confirmed by Voice Actor

Although Sony published Hideo Kojima's widely-anticipated 2019 release Death Stranding on PS4 last year, its PC version is getting released by 505 Games and in that case, developer Kojima Productions was an independent studio.

Same goes for French game developer studio Quantic Dream, who released PC version for some of their well-known titles at least more than a year later that were previously launched by Sony as exclusives to PlayStation consoles.

RELAETD: Job Listing Suggests Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel in Development?

In his recent interview, Hulst explains that open-world game Horizon Zero Dawn is just a great fit for a more powerful hardware than PS4 and Sony is keen to show people what they are truly missing out as they stay open to new ideas.

However, releasing one first-party AAA game on PC simply doesn't mean that every other PlayStation IPs will now follow and make debut on a different platform, even though Microsoft has been using this same strategy for years.

RELAETD: Horizon Zero Dawn Hits 10 Million Sales

Though rumor for a sequel to Horizon was revealed by a voice actor followed by a job listing in November 2019 almost confirmed that, Guerilla Games remains completely silent and wants everyone to focus on its upcoming PC port.

Horizon Zero Dawn is currently listed on Steam as Complete Edition of the game and is published by PlayStation Mobile. PC version will include add-on items and The Frozen Wilds expansion pack alongside HZD full game.

Horizon Zero Dawn May Come to PC

Following Death Stranding, another PS4-exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn could be coming to PC next year.

Last month, a new job listing at developer Guerrilla Games have hinted of a possible sequel for action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn in works and was confirmed earlier by voice actress Janina Gavankar (Sleepy Hollow, True Blood).

A recent rumor from Russian YouTuber Anton Logvinov suggests that critically-acclaimed 2017 action RPG title HZD is going to see release on PC by February 2020 with an official reveal coming very soon, probably during The Game Awards 2019.

Anton Logvinov previously predicted Death Stranding to get a PC release earlier this year, which is built using Decima Engine from Guerrilla as part of a partnership between developer Kojima Productions and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Latest masterpiece of Hideo Kojima was revealed to have a PC release back in 2015 in a now-deleted Medium post. However, a PC port of Horizon seems a lot far-fetched idea despite Guerrilla Games being a first-party studio under Sony.

RELATED: Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel Confirmed by Voice Actor

In his post shared on ResetEra forum, more of what Logvinov stated later was added alongside his claim.

I'm talking to different developers who are making something for the PlayStation 5, and they said to me that Sony warns them "keep the PC version in mind.

RELATED: Death Stranding No Longer Listed PS4-Exclusive

Given both of these titles runs on Decima and DS has already optimized its code for PC for an upcoming transition to a new platform, Sony could be finally pushing to bring popular PlayStation games for platform accessibility.

A major market competitor, Microsoft has been pushing more of their exclusive titles to PC for next-generation consoles. With arrival of PlayStation 5 set for holiday season next year, Sony may very well be changing their strategy as well.

RELATED: Death Stranding Announced for PC

It would make sense if they want a PC port of their original PlayStation 4 title to draw interest of new players from a different platform because it is highly likely that potential development for a sequel to HZD for PS5 is already ongoing.

Since there are no official word from Guerrilla Games or Sony just yet, rumor of a PC release for Horizon Zero Dawn should be taken with a grain of salt. However, we shouldn't completely rule out its possibility given its credible source.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne X Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds Event

Frozen frontiers of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will collide in frosty new Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds event.

A running trend for action role-playing game Monster Hunter: World, developer/publisher Capcom frequently arranges special limited time event by teaming up with popular franchise of their own and various others for.

In a latest collaboration quest, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is having a crossover with The Frozen Wilds DLC of 2017 PlayStation 4-exclusive title Horizon Zero Dawn, which is live now for players on Sony consoles.

For a two-part event quest adventure, HZD protagonist character Aloy will step into icy grounds of "New World" to hunt down terrifying beasts. Being a natural hunter of mech creatures, she will have no trouble fitting in a frigid terrain.

Aside from playing as Aloy, there is a chance for Hunters to craft Light Bowgun, Stormslinger Prototype. This one is a ranged weapon from HZD expansion DLC that nicely fits into MH: World in terms of design aesthetics and usage.

Stormslinger used to be an upgrade for spear that Banuk shaman Ourea wielded in The Frozen Wilds and it now acts more like a ropecaster. Not only its power capacity has been expanded but an overcharge can also cause major blowback.

Similar to fierce canine beast Scorcher from HZD, you have thunderous beast Zinogre to face in Iceborne next month but make sure that you at least have a Master Rank of 24 or above and packing some Thunder Resistance before a confrontation.

Those who think that Light Bowgun doesn't quite suit your style can still get some high-tech flair. Upon completing Into the Frozen Wilds quest, players can earn two Banuk Warrior Symbols that can be forged into Focus Pendant.

Second part of Horizon Zero Dawn collaboration with Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will be kick-starting at some point in December 2019 and players will be able to take part in these events from now until January 10, 2020.

Job Listing Suggests Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel in Development?

Recent job postings by Guerrilla Games hint at an anticipated sequel of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS5.

Throughout this year, developer Guerrilla Games has celebrated two major milestones for their 2017 action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn; its second anniversary of release on PlayStation 4 and selling over 10 million copies worldwide.

Back in April 2019, a sequel to HZD was confirmed to be in works by voice actress Janina Gavankar (Sleepy Hollow, True Blood) of its Frozen Wilds DLC but now a recent job listing has made it clear that her claims are likely to be true.

A number of vacancies have been sighted recently on official website of the Dutch developer and they stated for post of a Technical Vegetation Artist, "We have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of Horizon".

Hired designer would require creating vegetation assets for in-game world and it may be for Horizon Zero Dawn 2, unless they are working on new release from Killzone series or RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, which is very much unlikely.

Besides, HZD had a lush environment full of jungle and freezing forests for most part, which is not a relatable case for their other known IPs. Since they have an established gameplay foundation at hand, HZD2 may see release in 2023.

A single mention of their biggest game and a job posting is not essentially a clear hint for anything related to a sequel but assembling a new crew is clearly an indication of something new that is going to be a platform exclusive.

Now that Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a release window for PlayStation 5 to be holiday season 2020, there are a lot of rumor and speculations over which titles will make debut on their next-generation console.

Reportedly, many developer studios are already working on their upcoming projects for Sony's new console and even though nothing is officially confirmed yet, it would only make sense for Guerrilla Games to work on a sequel for PS5.

Despite being a commercial success, HZD only received a single DLC in November 2017 without any follow-up. However, Guerrilla can surely improve over its sequel using improved features of PlayStation 5, while boosting unit sales for the console.

Horizon Zero Dawn launched on February 28, 2017 to receive critical acclaim for character development and a gripping story. It is the fifth best-selling PS4-exclusive title ahead of God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel Confirmed by Voice Actor

A sequel for PlayStation 4-exclusive title Horizon Zero Dawn is seemingly confirmed by voice actor Janina Gavankar.

Back in February 2019, developer Guerrilla Games celebrated second anniversary of release for their 2017 action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn that sold over 10 million copies worldwide to become one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games.

That level of success pretty much guarantees a sequel but rather than speculating, we have actress Janina Gavankar (Sleepy Hollow, True Blood), who voiced a character named Tatai in Frozen Wilds DLC confirming its existence lately.

At Star Wars Celebration 2019 ongoing event on Chicago, Gavankar met a fan who was cosplaying as her character Iden Versio from story campaign of Star Wars Battlefront II, telling Janina that she got into playing HZD because of her.

Gavankar only replied her back saying,
It's incredible, wait 'til you see the sequel. You're gonna die. I know some secrets! You're gonna die.

Their brief conversation was recorded on camera and Reddit user ninjyte pointed out to that Twitch clip, which has now been removed but since people never forgets anything on internet; we have found access to that moment.

Gavankar has only confirmed that a sequel is indeed in works and her character Tatai from Frozen Wilds expansion is returning as well. It seems that the game is far from completion and probably in some early stage of development.

Even though Sony is skipping E3 2019, they can simply make a grand reveal through one of their upcoming State of Play episode. It can also launch sometime in 2020, same year when PlayStation 5 is also eyeing for release.

RELATED: Horizon Zero Dawn Board Game Fully Funded

Two years have passed and fans are excited to get a HZD sequel in spite of no announcement or anything from Guerrilla Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment but there are no reasons for them not wanting to continue making the next game.

Upon release, Horizon Zero Dawn turns out to be one of the most popular new PS4 franchises that surpassed other exclusive titles like God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End on the same platform in overall sales worldwide.
