Mark Hamill Wants to Play Classic Witcher Character

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill is interested to play classic Witcher character Vesemir for Netflix's The Witcher Season 2.

Despite some initial skepticism, fans have approved of the first live-action iteration of Geralt of Rivia, played by British actor Henry Cavill (Justice League, Man of Steel) following first season premiere of fantasy TV series Netflix's The Witcher.

When showrunner Lauren Hissrich was discussing traits of a classic Witcher character on Twitter, it was pointed out that Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) should play Vesemir in The Witcher Season 2.

Vesemir is an experienced and older Witcher from 13th century, who appeared on franchise novels and games. Also, this conversation gone viral recently is from about a year ago, even before Cavill expressed his interest in playing Geralt.

Hissrich was posting a series of Tweets, breaking down each major characters of her Netflix show and there she conveyed Vesemir as "Fatherly, Wise, Sprightly an Ancient", attributes that can be well portrayed by Hamill himself.

Noticing that conversation, Mark Hamill quickly jumped in expressing his interests to be cast for Season 2.

Hamill is renowned for his work on both Star Wars original and sequel trilogy as Luke Skywalker as well as multiple Batman animated films as The Joker. Hopefully, he has caught on more with lore of The Witcher series by now after a year.

Season 1 features a young version of Vesemir on a single episode that is played by British actor Theo James (Underworld: Awakening, Underworld: Blood Wars), which leaves chances for the character to appear on next season.

Estimated cost for each episode of Netflix's The Witcher is $15 million that is very much likely to increase in Season 2. Lately, online streaming-service Netflix gave an approximate $150 million budget for Michael Bay directed film 6 Underground.

Whether or not Netflix would like to hire or can afford an A-lister actor like Mark Hamill is up for debate but given how The Witcher has become one of the highest-rated Netflix shows on IMDb, there is a chance for him to join The Witcher Season 2.

According to analytics site Steam Charts, there was an abrupt spike of player number amassing to 50k peak on this Monday, positioning ahead of recently released Western-themed action-adventure title Red Dead Redemption 2.

For past six months, average players count for TW3 was over 13,000 on PC and it saw a slight increase in June, reaching 18,000 after first official teaser trailer for The Witcher TV Series was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 panel.

Considering this current peak number is coming from Steam alone and not including other available platforms like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this is an impressive feat for a four year old game without multiplayer component.

There was an influx of players on such scale was back in 2016 when TW3 received its second and final expansion pack Blood and Wine. By mid-2019, the game has sold over 20 million copies worldwide across all major platforms.

Based on fantasy novels of author Andrzej Sapkowski, Netflix's The Witcher TV Series casts British actor Henry Cavill (Justice League, Man of Steel) in lead role and series protagonist Geralt of Rivia, who is a monster hunter.

Cavill himself is a huge fan of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from developer/publisher CD Projekt Red and has read the books. Aside from having played the game several times, he finds acting as Geralt is similar to playing but in a different way.

Many aspects of the series are awfully similar to themes of DBD that nicely blended into its current lore and 1vs4 gameplay. Stranger Things chapter also breaks a trend by adding a non-human killer for the first time with two unique survivors.

Picking up only Nancy and Steve from many fan-favorite characters was tough but it was their survival skills that made them a perfect fit. Harrington is more resilient to take beating whereas Wheeler is good at scouting and stealthy approach.

Regarding many complaining for some time about Geralt carrying only one sword with him and not two, it was clarified at the panel that Netflix series is following The Witcher novels for adaptation and not relying on aspects of video games.

For this upcoming fantasy TV series for online streaming-service Netflix, showrunner Lauren Hissrich takes "The Last Wish" from main Witcher Saga for adaptation in order to give Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer enough room for character development.
