Brian Horton talks about inspiration for working on Miles Morales becoming his own Spider-Man and more.

Miles Morales is a Brooklyn teenager who got bitten by a genetically-altered spider that gave him powers and super-human abilities like Peter Parker, including his unique invisibility cloak and powerful bio-electric shots of Venom Blast.

Insomniac has introduced Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales into Marvel's Spider-Man universe as a superhero at PS5 digital event. He is out for a self-discovery of being a hero just like his mentor in upcoming standalone adventure.

RELATED: Little Devil Inside Devs Will Change Racist Character Design

When working on previous game, creative director Bryan Intihar of Marvel's Spider-Man had an idea of making Miles Morales a part of Peter Parker's world and therefore, they revealed him to players in E3 2017 demo during PlayStation Briefing.

Given a different and multicultural background he comes from, Miles needed his own game to explore his origin story. He will be having a new plot, set-pieces, villains and unique quests to take on within New York City of Marvel's Spider-Man.

A year after events from first game, a war broke out before Christmas break between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal gang. Miles Morales finds himself tangled in their web of conflict that takes place in his new home at Harlem.

Dev team of Spider-Man: Miles Morales are also very eager to showcase their game on new PlayStation 5 console, taking advantage of its impressive features for 3D audio, DualSense controller, instant loading, ray-tracing and much more.

Insomniac have plans to add more to Peter's story while they are working on solo outing of Miles Morales. Maybe fans will eventually get to see Spider-Man and his iconic Black Costume in a possible sequel title, reported in early rumors.

Players will have a full story experience with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5, though in scopes of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Insomniac Games will reveal more story and gameplay elements before its release on holiday season.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is DLC or Standalone Game?

Insomniac Games confirms that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a standalone game for PS5.

Given how much of a success 2018 superhero action-adventure title Marvel's Spider-Man from developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment was, a follow-up sequel became almost inevitable at this point.

In recent digital showcase for PlayStation 5 Reveal Event, next chapter of Marvel's friendly neighborhood wall-crawler is unveiled and people are heavily confused whether it's a DLC to previous game or a full standalone experience.

A recent interview published by The Telegraph with PlayStation executive earlier has lead entire gaming community being confused about newly revealed spin-off game Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales for upcoming PlayStation 5.

One of the most exciting takeaways from PS5 digital event was Miles Morales and that hype has quickly faded out when it was revealed not to be a full-game but a DLC expansion to Marvel's Spider-Man game, enhanced for next-gen console.

In an attempt to dismiss confusion and rumors among fans after PS5 reveal event, Insomniac had to come out announcing Spider-Man: Miles Morales is in fact a standalone adventure set within Marvel's Spider-Man universe and not a DLC.

On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, executive vice president and European business operations head Simon Rutter referred Spider-Man: Miles Morales to be "an expansion and an enhancement" of original Spider-Man game for PS4.

RELATED: Marvel's Spider-Man Easter Egg Refers to Ant-Man

Rutter was implying that Spider-Man would be playable on PS5 console, pointing out Insomniac Games working on major enhancements and game engine, most likely to install some groundbreaking features of PlayStation 5 technology.

Sony successfully acquired Insomniac last year but has yet to announce a PS5 version of Marvel's Spider-Man. However, they used footage from the PS4-exclusive game for an early PlayStation 5 tech demo last month, highlighting key-features.

Following PS5 reveal, Jason Schreier took Twitter to clarify whether Miles Morales is a DLC or full game.

Though smaller in length than many traditional games, Sony will sell the game as standalone title for PlayStation 5, according to an insider. Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier compared Miles Morales to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

Originally, developer Naughty Dog attempted to work on Lost Legacy as an expansion for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End but ended up releasing it as a standalone yet relatively shorter than a full-priced game in 2017, priced $39.99 only.

A title card from Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales announcement mentions the game as "PlayStation Exclusive", not outright specifying if Sony will be keeping this one to PS5 console only or will release a PS4 version in near future.

Sony never talked about anything similar to Smart Delivery system of Microsoft, which offers free Xbox Series X upgrades for Xbox One games. Leaving these issues unanswered leaves a question of transparency to their consumer base.

Debuting through first game, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales was foreshadowed to be a superhero successor of Peter Parker after bitten by a genetically-altered spider, especially teased in mid-credits scene of 2018 Spider-Man game.

Miles would often become playable for certain segments of original game where Peter was main protagonist. Insomniac Games has yet to confirm if players get to play as Parker at some point of upcoming standalone spin-off title.

Sony has created this debacle of misleading marketing by not explicitly wording their message. Whereas it will take nearly 40 hours for Marvel's Spider-Man to complete, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a relatively smaller walkthrough.

PlayStation 4-exclusive title Marvel's Spider-Man was a massive hit, outselling Batman: Arkham Asylum on release. Sony is eager to repeat similar level of success with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales when it arrives on holiday 2020.

Reddit user throwawayquarantine8 is claimed to receive some alleged details on Marvel's Spider-Man sequel lately from a person who attended a private meeting of Insomniac Games staff on Zoom video conference on April 17, 2020.

Apparently a meeting really took place on that date, confirmed by a Tweet from Insomniac community director James Stevenson but it could very well be that the Reddit leaker is referring to that just to make these claims seem legit.

Post-credits scene of Spider-Man has already teased Venom for a future appearance and Insomniac is bringing back everyone's favorite wall-crawler in his classic black suit that took major inspiration from Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

Marvel's Spider-Man Easter Egg Refers to Ant-Man

Easter egg within Marvel's Spider-Man makes reference to Hank Pym, better known as superhero Ant-Man.

Aside from exploring many popular Marvel properties, 2018 PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from developer Insomniac Games has a lot of references to other movies and video games media.

Even after 18 months of its release, enthusiastic fans are still seeing new Easter eggs hidden in-game. Most recently, Reddit user SuperiorArachnid has pointed out an open nod to Hank Pym that he saw no one else mentioning so far.

This newfound Easter egg is an award recognizing technological achievements of OsCorp CEO Norman Osborn in medical science field. He won an accolade from Pym Foundation that is signed by Henry "Hank" Pym, original Ant-Man.

Norman has probably come up with these medical innovations to save his only son Harry Osborn from a terminal illness throughout entire plot. Hank Pym is known for discovering Pym Particle and probably has no idea what Osborn is up to.

Though majority of Easter eggs in Spider-Man PS4 requires you to put a bit of hustle but this one is discovered fairly easily. If you have played through its story then you might recall playing "Step Into My Parlor" mission to spot this image.

Mary Jane Watson and Spider-Man broke into New York mayor Osborn's apartment in order to find any potential traces of his wrongdoing and players can see many of his achievements and awards hanging on wall of his living room there.

Adding this sneaky little detail into a game only shows how deeply Insomniac Games cared about all related properties of Marvel. Many major AAA dev team or publication probably won't even care this much for that project to be successful.

According to a report from NPD Group, Marvel's Spider-Man became best-selling superhero video game of all time last year by outselling Batman: Arkham City and Sony is currently planning for a sequel to release on PlayStation 5 console.

Marvel's Spider-Man Becomes Best-Selling Superhero Video Game

Marvel's Spider-Man has become best-selling video game in superhero genre, leaving Batman: Arkham City behind.

Over the years, a number of Spider-Man video games were released but only a few has become very popular among fans or commercially successful as PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018.

Following a September release last year, Spider-Man on PS4 has managed to sell over 9 million copies by January 2019 and now has toppled Batman: Arkham City by becoming best-selling superhero video game of all time in United States.

This news itself is great for Marvel's most iconic superhero since it has only been out for less than a year whereas Arkham City was released back in 2011 by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive for past generation of consoles.

Now it may come as a surprise to many superhero fans considering 2018 Spider-Man game has a Metacritic score of 87, which is great but way inferior than a 96 score set by second Batman title from critically-acclaimed Arkham series.

In an attempt to come up with a definitive title featuring everyone's favorite wallcrawler, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment came up with the most beloved adaptation of Spidey in video games.

Their gameplay emphasis of combat and web-slinging was able to get fans hooked and received a number of awards at The Game Awards 2018. Set on a new and unique continuity, the game has established a standard for future Marvel Games projects.

Besides, Insomniac Games have been trying to keep fans happy with occasional release of variant Spidey suits for free and a series of paid DLC in "The City That Never Sleeps" as post launch to stay engaged and relevant.

In a recent addition, Marvel's Spider-Man has offered players Stealth and Upgraded suits from Spider-Man: Far From Home movie. Also, modern-day social media has helped spread word-of-mouth to reach a broader audience of all-ages.

We probably won't see any major superhero titles surpassing its impressive numbers anytime soon and forthcoming Nintendo Switch-exclusive action RPG game Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is not likely to come any close either.

Upcoming anticipated title Marvel's Avengers from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix may become a major competition next year but only an untitled sequel of Marvel's Spider-Man has the best chance to claim its number one position.

To celebrate global release of Spider-Man: Far From Home from Marvel Cinematic Universe, two brand-new outfits featured in the movie is now added to Spider-Man on PS4 for all players as free DLC via Patch 1.16.
