Resident Evil 3 Remake Won't Have Mercenaries Mode and Multiple Endings

Upcoming Resident Evil 3 will not include Mercenaries Mode and multiple endings like 1999 original title.

We are only less than four months away from release of upcoming highly-anticipated survival horror game Resident Evil 3 Remake from developer/publisher Capcom for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 3, 2020.

Although RE3 is a remake of original 1999 game, it will undergo a few makeovers than last year's Resident Evil 2 Remake. A few features like fan-favorite Mercenaries mode and multiple endings will not make it to final version.

When news surrounding RE3 Remake has first emerged online, many fans assume to see return of Mercenaries mode but that hope is shot down in an interview with Capcom producers from recent issue of official PlayStation Magazine UK.

There were several unique endings in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, which would often occur when players would follow different paths willingly or sometime forcibly but developers bailed out on that as well in favor of a definitive main story.

Twitter user Nibellion has posted these newly revealed details along with a Reddit link for pages from OPM.

Upon completion of RE3: Nemesis story mode, a mini-game mode titled "The Mercenaries: Operation Mad Jackal" would eventually unlock and task players to complete a bunch of objectives throughout Raccoon City in set time.

Players could take control of one of Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service members Carlos Oliveira, Mikhail Victor and Nikolai Zinoviev. This is more like an extended version of bonus modes from RE2 featuring HUNK and Tofu.

In latest reimagining of a classic, they are cutting off Mercenaries in favor of its asymmetrical multiplayer mode Resident Evil: Resistance that lets four players to take part as survivors against a fifth one taking role of a Mastermind.

This character can pit survivors into traps and send zombies or Mr. X after them to stop them from getting away. Revealed earlier in a glitch, Umbrella scientist Annette Birkin will also be a playable Mastermind with her ultimate being G-monster.

Despite not being explorable as an open-world game, you will be able to explore city hospital, shops and streets in RE3. At one point, Jill will find herself into Raccoon City sewer system and come across returning enemies like mutant worms and such.

Other than being completely redesigned in a new avatar, Carlos Oliveira will be playable for an extended level than his original run. His role in getting a cure of T-virus from hospital will most likely be prolonged in latest iteration of the game.

Also, main antagonist character Nemesis would be based on model of Mr. X from RE2 but will receive an improved version of AI. Developers have created a lifelike version of the Tyrant monster to scan it using photogrammetry tech.

Unlike earlier, his appearance is not scripted or restricted on Raccoon City Police Department corridors anymore. Instead, he will now out without a leash and roaming around seeking for his primary target, former S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine.

Compared to brand-new online experience Project Resistance within Resident Evil universe, Mercenaries mode had significantly less content to work on and old-school RE3 fans who likes to play alone would surely miss it a lot.

Although Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 3 doesn't offer much gameplay depth, it still is an enjoyable experience with nostalgic value. Therefore, getting rid of this unlockable mini-game from its remake actually makes less sense.

In a complete reimagining of Resident Evil 3, the trailer goes back to Raccoon City once again right before the events of Resident Evil 2, to explore former S.T.A.R.S. member and original series protagonist Jill Valentine trying to make an escape.

During her getaway attempts, she is met by surviving mercenaries Carlos Oliveira, Mikhail Victor and Nikolai Zinoviev. Carlos becomes an ally to her while she is constantly being pursued by a super-powered Tyrant named Nemesis.

After her reports on Umbrella Corporation and Arklay Mansion incident, all investigation has been completely overlooked and Jill gets suspended. Even though willing to expose all lies, she has to get out first from the city of living dead.

Those who played recent remake version of Resident Evil 2 and was haunted by a menacing Mr. X will meet his new successor in RE3 Remake. Nemesis is a persistent bio-weapon who does a lot more than slamming doors or ramming through walls.

It was two decades ago, when Capcom came up with Resident Evil series of games and totally revolutionized a new genre. Though latter games have deviated from its roots, first three RE games are what truly defines what survival horror is.

Resident Evil 2 Remake was widely accepted by fans for staying true to its core, yet adding new elements to overall story. Resident Evil 3 Remake can see similar and maybe even greater level of success if Capcom can just repeat that same idea.

Capcom calls Project Resistance a 1v4 asymmetric online survival horror experience that pits four among five players in a game of cat and mouse chase as survivors to stay alive against all odds and is still set in Resident Evil universe.

A mystery man from first teaser video who looked awfully similar to Albert Wesker is actually a new guy named Daniel Fabron. Four young survivors are Samuel Jordan, January Van Sant, Valerie Harmon and Tyrone Henry.

Each of them are specialized in different skills be it hacking, healing, melee attack or even reducing damage. Using their variety of skills with proper teamwork, players can defeat those bio-weapons set loose on them and escape.

There are specific objectives to complete before moving onto a new area and working together helps you find items or solve puzzles. If your teammate is injured, they can be revived but if not, they will die and respawn to kill valuable time.

One of them playing as Mastermind will summon monstrous creatures to hunt them, set traps or manipulate surrounding environment while tracking them using security cameras and those four will have to survive using their own special skills.

If deemed necessary, Mastermind can even take direct control of any zombies or even the Tyrant named Mr. X to stop them. Survivors can only win by making an escape though tackling all obstacles thrown at them before time runs out.

They move to a warehouse like area and the mystery man starts releasing a number of Zombies on them to see if they survive. Working together as a team, these four have managed to put them all down, including a rabid Licker.

Just as they were trying to catch a breath afterwards, a giant door in front of them opens to reveal the infamous Tyrant known as Mr. X standing thereby and the guy puts two mechanical gauntlets in his hands, asserting full control over it.

This could very well be that premise of this new game is set during Raccoon City outbreak event from Resident Evil 2. Mr. X in Project Resistance trailer looks awfully similar to recently released RE2Make and Albert Wesker might be the mystery man.

In early August, Capcom sent invitations to U.S. based members of RE Ambassadors program to test a new game from Resident Evil series and it pretty much fits the description other than Resident Evil 3 Remake or Resident Evil 8.

Project Resistance from Resident Evil series is going to release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Registered attendees from Japan who would show up at Capcom booth in Tokyo Game Show 2019 will get some glimpse at gameplay.

Capcom to reveal new Resident Evil game titled "Project Resistance" ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2019.

Earlier this month, developer/publisher Capcom invited U.S. based testers for a new game from their popular survival horror series Resident Evil without hinting whether it is a remake of Resident Evil 3 or just Resident Evil 8.

After launching an official teaser website recently, Capcom announces to reveal a new Resident Evil project titled Project Resistance for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 9, shortly before Tokyo Game Show 2019.

On set date for next month, they will premiere the trailer at 8:00 AM PDT and attendees will be able to view it on Capcom booth. For Japan only, interested individuals will be given chance to test playing but would require early registrations.

Information on Project Resistance is pretty scarce and yet a Reddit user was able to grab a few thumbnails from a YouTube livestream link that are claimed to be from upcoming teaser trailer but they are not large enough to get a clear visual.

Twitter user Nibel has managed to get those screenshots and then posted them later on social media.

Aside from these stills being taken from a live-action video, all we can guess for now is that it will most probably be a four player co-op multiplayer game like Left 4 Dead and maybe a spin-off title like Resident Evil Outbreak from 2003.

Capcom has not cleared out anything about Project Resistance and given how Resident Evil has become their best-selling franchise by shipping 90 million units so far, maybe they are trying out something new other than survival horror genre.

Capcom is looking for U.S. based RE Ambassadors to test out a new Resident Evil game very soon.

Other requirement a participant should have is to have played at least any Resident Evil title in past aside from being a member. There is clearly no hint at if they will test out a remake of early title, a sequel to RE7 or even a spin-off.

After Resident Evil 2 Remake saw a massive opening on January 2019, fans were rallying for a follow-up with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake. Regardless, Capcom seems to be going ahead with Biohazard storyline through Resident Evil 8 for now.
