StarCraft: Scavengers Comics in Development

Other than spawning a series of great sequels and expansion packs, Blizzard Entertainment's real-time strategy game franchise of StarCraft is quite adept when it comes to produce more and more tie-in comic-books for the enthusiastically curious fan-base of theirs. Following that trail, the developers have banded with publisher Dark Horse Comics to announce their upcoming limited series StarCraft: Scavengers.

Spanned for only four issues, the series is plotted out by writer Jody Houser (Mother Panic, Faith) and artist Gabriel Guzmán (Mass Effect: Discovery, Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Cry of Shadows) lend his illustration skills to create this story. The book will focus on a band of Terran scavenger group on a risky mission to salvage invaluable tech from an abandoned Protoss ship within a certain time and the experience is something like they never had.

The official synopsis of the StarCraft: Scavengers comic series is as follows:

"In StarCraft: Scavengers, a group of terrans hopes to pull off the job of their lifetimes: pillaging a derelict protoss ship in a decaying orbit above an uninhabited planet. The scavengers’ dangerous mission is seen from the point of view of a young, inexperienced engineer. The team must scavenge the ship’s priceless tech before it burns up in the planet’s atmosphere, but can they beat the clock and avoid being busted by Dominion police forces?"

With the release of the previous games and comic-books published by Blizzard, we already have seen a lot before and hopefully there are more depth to the core plot than the summary reveals at this stage. Whatever mysteries are going to unfold at the end of this chapter, that might have some long-lasting effect on the franchise and maybe the story will herald a tease for any potential game sequel as well. StarCraft III will not be a bad idea if that is what Blizzard is secretly cooking but we can be wrong too.

The first issue of the series will come out on July 25, 2018 and very soon it will be available for pre-order. Blizzard Entertainment has previously released StarCraft: Revelations and StarCraft: Hybrid limited series comic-books. Publishers like DC Comics and Wildstorm were later involved in the series of graphic novels based on StarCraft. There was also a digital comic series focused on StarCraft II’s War Chest program.
