Dark Souls Series Hits 27 Million Sales, Dark Souls 3 Sold 10 Million

Acclaimed action RPG series Dark Souls has sold over 27 million copies, Dark Souls III adds more than 10 million units.

Despite being an incredibly punishing experience, action role-playing game series Dark Souls from developer From Software has established a brand-new genre known as "Soulsborne" that begin its journey with 2009 title Demon's Souls.

According to an official press release by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, it was revealed today that Dark Souls franchise has sold over 27 million units worldwide and Dark Souls III alone has added 10 million copies to that number.

Taking 27 million sales number into account, latest installment of Dark Souls series apparently contributed more than 37% in total sales, which adds combined sales of base game and "Fire Fades Edition", complete version will all DLCs.

Originally made its debut back in March 2016 for Japan and then a month later for worldwide, Dark Souls III is a globally beloved video game franchise based on a dark fantasy setting and still very much popular among player community.

Moving away from "Soulsborne" genre, From Software has also worked on critically-acclaimed titles like Bloodborne (2015) and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019), both of which were directed by Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Miyazaki is planning his return by teaming up with Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin for upcoming action RPG title Elden Ring. Though not much of that project is revealed yet, From Software is likely to return to its "Soulslike" roots.
