A remake of original 2010 open-world action role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles released exclusively for Nintendo Switch as a Definitive Edition has reignited interest among series fans and an appetite for another mainline sequel.

Earlier in June, first Xenoblade Chronicles character Melia voice actress Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Emmerdale) showed up for a fan-interview YouTube channel Din's Meteorite and has let it slip that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is in works.

During her appearance, Coleman talked about a lot of stuff and shared about her experience of working on Xenoblade Chronicles, its recent Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition expanded remaster and an epilogue; Future Connected.

She recalled playing her role in first Xenoblade Chronicles ten years ago before her Doctor Who days and did a second one. Coleman further added that they're probably going for another one but isn't sure whether she is allowed to say it.

Jenna Coleman talks about her role in Xenoblade Chronicles and may have teased a sequel at her interview.

God, when was the first game? Ten years ago? It was a long time ago, I did it pre-Doctor Who days and when they did they second one, they asked me to come back. And I think they're going to do another. Common knowledge? Don't know. Yeah, I think they're going to do another. Not sure if I'm allowed to say that.

Although this video was posted months ago, fans at social media only started taking notice of it very recently. Coleman's accidental slip of the tongue eventually led fans to believe that a new Xenoblade Chronicles game is in development.

According to Fanbyte news editor and known industry insider Imran Khan, ongoing reports are correct and developer Monolith Soft is actually working on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, currently in final development phase with no release date.

Newest entry in Xenoblade Chronicles series is a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and is set in a far-future. There would be some returning characters from past titles and Coleman may have already recorded her voice for return of Melia.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was originally planned to be announced earlier this year but was moved up to late 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic. Monolith had a lot of trouble fitting more character models on screen and optimizing it for Switch.

If there is no further delays or development issues, XC3 might very well be released by first half of next year. Monolith Soft previously intended to release next Xenoblade Chronicles game long ago and then on a winter 2021 launch window.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 rumors shouldn't come as a surprise for fans as Monolith Soft teased at series future in "Future Connected" sequence of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and is currently heading towards that goal very soon.
