GTA 5 Becomes Most-Watched Game of 2021 on Twitch

GTA V Becomes Most-Watched Game of 2021 on Twitch

Without shred of a doubt, popularity of livestreaming platforms like Facebook Gaming, Twitch and YouTube are substantially growing among viewers for past few years as they are watching billions of hour's worth of content every year.

Before wrapping up this year, it has been revealed that Twitch's most-watched game in 2021 is 2013 action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto V by developer/publisher Rockstar Games as it leaves behind League of Legends and Fortnite.

According to latest statistics shared on Stream Elements blog, viewers have watched GTA V on Twitch for 2.1 billion hours this year. Lagging behind in second position is Riot Games' popular MOBA, League of Legends at 1.8 billion hours.

Twitch's most popular category Just Chatting however, remains most-watched among all other activities, raking 3.1 billion hours. Everyone's favorite free-to-play Battle Royale game Fortnite is still lagging behind with over 1 billion hours.

Eight years after launch, Grand Theft Auto 5 becoming highest-streamed title on Twitch is not surprising at all. Rockstar had player interest invested with numerous events and free updates, including newly added The Contract story DLC.

Viewership saw a massive increase on Twitch as people watched 24 billion hours of content in 2021, in contrast to 17 billion hour last year. In year to year comparison, Facebook Gaming and Twitch both had a 45% increase in watch time.
