RDR 2 Sold 43 Million Copies, Becomes Best-Selling Game of All-Time

During latest earnings results for Q3 2022, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick seemingly teased a possible revival of fan-favorite IPs like L.A. Noire, Max Payne and Midnight Club series earlier for a new audience on modern consoles.

Aside from hinting at long-awaited return of beloved franchise, Take-Two also announced that 2018 action-adventure game Red Dead Redemption 2 by developer/publisher Rockstar Games have sold more than 43 million units worldwide.

Red Dead 2 has shipped over 17 million copies at launch and thus, surpassing lifetime sales of its pervious series entry. Following its console release, RDR2 numbers continue to grow due to Windows PC and Google Stadia in coming years.

Red Dead Redemption 2 became a lot more popular than its predecessor title after PC release, receiving numerous mods. Moreover, people who played both RDR found Arthur Morgan to be more exciting lead character than John Marston.

Currently sitting at number 10 spot in all-time best-selling game list, RDR2 would move up to 8 by selling another 4.5 million copies. Rockstar Games have five titles in top 50 with an imposing 278.5 million units sold till this date and counting.

Compared to other best-sellers, it took only a few years for Red Dead Redemption 2 to reach a massive number of sales. Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft took almost a decade and to reach massive number of 238 and 160 million units sold.

RDR2 received nominations for over 100 year-end accolades and won many of them, including multiple "Game of the Year" awards. It received eight nominations at The Game Awards 2018, yet ended up losing to 2018's God of War reboot.

Red Dead Redemption 2 hitting 43 million milestones takes RDR series sales to 65 million units sold in total. RDR2 surpasses GOTY winner God of War (2018) and other games like Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Last of Us and more in overall sale.
