Bloodstained Cancels Roguelike Mode Stretch Goal for Randomizer

Developer of Bloodstained is cancelling promised "Roguelike" mode and offering "Randomizer" as alternative.

Debuting last year following a successful Kickstarter campaign; side-scroller action role-playing game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night from developer ArtPlay and publisher 505 Games has been a modern-day successor of Castlevania series.

In a latest update post in Kickstarter page, chief developer Koji Igarashi has revealed that previously promised Roguelike dungeon mode is not likely to happen, even though it met original stretch goal of $5 million years ago.

In his post, Igarashi explains that early development stage of code for Bloodstained is not compatible to roguelike style of gameplay, especially to procedurally generate castle and therefore, they had to back out from that part.

Although they couldn't make it, ArtPlay have decided to develop a new game mode called "Randomizer" instead. This update will eventually be rolled out for free with release of playable character and swordsman exorcist Zangetsu.

Randomizer mode will play out campaign with players tweaking different game parameters for an arbitrary playthrough. Backers of Bloodstained were so eager to get a roguelike mode that its $5 million worth stretch goal was fulfilled by next day.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. When Randomizer and Zangetsu content update will finally arrive, a "Boss Revenge" mode will be added as well.
