Rogue One Writer Wants Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Co-writer of Rogue One, Gary Whitta believes Disney should pull the plug on their Star Wars license deal with Electronic Arts.

Fans of Star Wars franchise doesn't take any mishandling to their beloved franchise kindly and the way video game publisher Electronic Arts has been treating the licensed properties they received rights to from Disney are absolutely infuriating for anyone who loves them.

Avid video game fan and screenwriter Gary Whitta (After Earth, The Book of Eli), who is widely known for his involvement in story development for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story joins host Greg Miller in the daily podcast of Kinda Funny Games to talk about that.

Following Disney and EA making a decade-long deal that gave the latter exclusive rights to publish Star Wars games, fans have had a lot of expectation for the upcoming years to get some super exciting titles set in the fictional universe created by George Lucas.

The studio even acquired Battlefield series creator DICE, Titanfall development studio Respawn Entertainment and even Visceral Games who were responsible for the Dead Space trilogy but what they have done so far is not looking very good.

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

We are in 2019 and by now, all we have so far is just two installments out of their Star Wars Battlefront series. What we should also take to account is that their greedy approach to include loot boxes within the game has caused major backlash for Star Wars Battlefront II.

In their next insane move, EA went ahead and cancelled an ongoing project code-named "Ragtag" by Visceral, an open-world game from the known franchise. Seeing all these catastrophic action, we have a bad feeling about the fate of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Like any other rational fans of Star Wars, Gary Whitta thinks this is embarrassing and Disney should pull the plug on their deal to take away their license from EA if there is any way for them even though they are only half-way through.

Although he has faith on the upcoming third-person Star Wars game that Respawn has been working on, he really cannot rely on their decision making process after seeing them cancelling project Ragtag that was essentially a "Star Wars Uncharted" game.

For those who are interested in checking out the full video where Gary Whitta expresses his passion for games and Star Wars, the entire conversation is right below.

RELATED: Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Of course Whitta doesn't voice his concern about the situation from a position of power, neither does he takes business decisions for them but his obvious frustration over their repeated failure is something that the fans can clearly relate to.

As a media giant, Disney should care for the franchise by cutting all ties to the publisher and explore other options for the sake of their own reputation. Obviously, there are many other established and indie studios capable of doing justice to Star Wars.

Anthem Game Awards 2018 Trailer

Brand-new footage from BioWare's online multiplayer game Anthem is released at Game Awards 2018.

Developer BioWare is returning to race of great game making and helming an ambitious project that is the first new IP for publisher Electronic Arts in a decade. We are talking about upcoming third-person shooter Anthem, which is due to February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The studio already revealed major gameplay details during E3 2018 and a trailer alongside their stand with cross-play. Recently, they made a show at The Game Awards 2018 by releasing another spectacular video of their anticipated title.

The newest official trailer of the game explores further into the story and it offers an extended look into the futuristic world.

The video opens up once again on how Freelancers are fighting for generations to keep a remaining part of humanity from the hostility of a world that hides a lot more than it reveals. The Shaper gods that created the world has abandoned the planet long ago.

A mysterious force that is known as the Anthem of Creation which surrounds everything and impacts the life of everyone is the main focus of all. Moreover, there is a big-bad guy who seeks that absolute power for him to wield and has some sinister plan in mind for sure.

Even though BioWare is renowned for their work on the Dragon Age series and Star Wars: The Old Republic, they failed to live up to expectation with Mass Effect: Andromeda; the last entry in Mass Effect series. However, the game looks promising enough to live up to their name and create its own legacy.

The closed alpha will be available later this weekend and the world of Anthem will open up for select players who sign up on the EA community website. Though the alpha program will be limited to some extent, it will be stress testing the servers while tweaking the matchmaking.

Battlefield V: Tides of War Coming Tomorrow

Tides of War: Chapter 1 comes out with contents like Practice Range mode and War Story for Battlefield V on December 4.

Even though critics and fans were not much in favor of Battlefield V, the newest release of the first-person shooter game series Battlefield, EA DICE and Electronic Arts are keeping up their efforts in changing core gameplay fixes and slew of new contents.

Most of the player had a complaint about the single-player campaign being felt too short and incomplete even. Starting from December 4, EA is rolling the dice with their first batch of free content, Tides of War Chapter 1: Overture.

Before heading to the frontline of battle, check out the official trailer for Overture, first chapter in Tides of War experience.

RELATED: Battlefield V Launch Maps Trailer

Long-time fans of the series are quite familiar with terms like "Premium Pass" and "Expansion Packs", which BV has gotten rid of completely to create a singular journey for all players to take part in together, without paying any extra buck for it.

This voyage is what they call Tides of War, a series of ongoing experience that introduce new gameplay and improvements to reinvent your World War II journey. There will be maps, modes, rewards and weekly events to keep up the flow.

RELATED: Battlefield V Battle Royale Mode Confirmed

If you want to get accustomed with the weapons and vehicles of the game, it would be logical if you take it to the Practice Range rather than choosing one of the regular multiplayer maps and then spend the rest of your day spawning other than fighting.

You can simply start with the Shooting Trial to practice your aim or Driving Trial, both of which will come in handy and as you score higher, you actually get better. So, switch up to different Shooting Exercises and hone your accuracy and then challenge yourself with an increased difficulty.

Overture brings in a brand-new single-player War Story, The Last Tiger featuring the tale of a solo Tiger I Tank crew. It takes place during the time when the nearly unstoppable Axis forces were slowly driving towards their ultimate defeat in WWII.

While trying to defend the homeland, a Veteran Tank Commander Peter Müller and his crew tries to take a last stand when Allied forces came knocking. At that point, he starts to question his own ideology that has brought him at that point. It's going to be interesting.

RELATED: Battlefield V Delay Hurts EA Stock Price

The stellar experience of Battlefield expands with the launch of massive mechanized war machines into a new map called Panzerstorm. In 1940, Axis forces takes on British defenses in Belgium, where you roll in among a land of damaged and abandoned tanks.

There are 17 of them to plough through the lands and forests of the town or you can just try your luck by going on foot. As you can find scopes for Infantry ambushes strong defenses and enemy trenches, keep an eye on an unsuspected air attack.

RELATED: Battlefield V – Devastation of Rotterdam – Gamescom Trailer

Till now, players had to be content with the limitation to change the look of soldiers and weapons. Overture cranks up the appearance tweaking by letting you change the exterior of their vehicles to make a sweet memory of your glorified victory.

These customizations however, are purely cosmetic and doesn't actually change or increase combat performance of the vehicles or whatsoever. Nevertheless, it lets you stand out among the crowd and help leave your mark behind, which is the actual point.

RELATED: Battlefield V Battle Royale "Firestorm" Coming in 2019

Chapter 1 from Tides of War also has weekly events to take you to the detailed gameplay of B5 and let you earn reward at the same time while you make progress for your company. As your Rank is improved by playing more and more, you get access to new items and cosmetics as well.

Overture is just the beginning of the oncoming surge of new content that DICE and Electronic Arts have planned up to release for Battlefield V players in the foreseeable future. With each new mode, maps and gameplay mechanics, the experience will never be the same.

BioWare Teased Dragon Age Announcement

Developer BioWare hinted at possible announcement of an upcoming sequel of their fantasy RPG franchise Dragon Age.

While talking about their upcoming project Anthem, developers BioWare has revealed that they are also working on some secret Dragon Age stuff and thus, straight out hinted at an upcoming announcement of something big at The Game Awards 2018.

General Manager Casey Hudson of the studio mentioned their work as "secret" in a Blog Post and given the upcoming event is a place for many companies to reveal their upcoming release, a new installment from the popular fantasy RPG franchise would not be a shocker.

We thought we would straight up quote Casey Hudson on what he just wrote in his Blog for your own convenience.

If you’ve been following these blogs, or myself and Mark Darrah on Twitter, you know we’re also working on some secret Dragon Age stuff.  Dragon Age is an incredibly important franchise in our studio, and we’re excited to continue its legacy.  Look for more on this in the coming month (though I won’t tell you where to look…)

RELATED: Anthem Gameplay Details

Players clearly have their fond memories with the first game, Dragon Age: Origins for countless hours and now that executive producer of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mark Darrah is involved, we can hope for a fourth installment currently in development.

Inquisition was also the last game that came out in 2014 and followed up by downloadable contents till 2015. The studio also disclosed adding Alexis Kennedy of Failbetter Games as a guest writer for the next project of the series to expand a bit of lore.

RELATED: Anthem Won't Have Cross-Play or DLC at Launch

We just hope and pray that this announcement doesn't end up being some major disaster like the reveal event of Diablo Immortal, because people didn't expect a mobile-only new game that was so hyped up from the past few months of the big reveal.

Hopefully, BioWare won't make a stupid move like that and whatever they are cooking up and ready to announce soon will be a new release for PC and other major consoles, so that the franchise can return to its glory days once again.

Diving head on to fight into some of the brand-new maps after you take a weapon and start laying down some heavy fire can be tempting but we advise you to take a tour of the single-player War Stories first if you are just starting your journey.

This series of untold stories taken from World War II gives you a larger perspective and a better understanding of the global conflict. Experience how men and women got caught up in the middle of this clash and how they lived through the situation, which elements are basic to multiplayer.

To start with, Battlefield V offers eight maps at launch, each two of which are set in four different locations of Norway, Holland, North Africa, and France. You may not have known about them from history books and WWII movies.

There are eight different modes in the game and each challenges you to develop as well as adopt a unique set of playstyles to suit them. Modes like Airborne and Final Stand will be reserved for all-out multiplayer warfare show Grand Operations.

As we come closer to the end of the line, let's take a look at the official launch trailer of the game before heading to the frontline of battle.

Although the game didn't suffer from a micro-transition outrage on social media like Star Wars Battlefront II of last year from DICE, some fans have mocked their idea of including female soldiers in the WWII shooter that even hurt their pre-order sales.

Already packed with so many choices and modes to explore, Battlefield V also promises exciting post-launch content like battle royale mode Firestorm and brand-new Tides of War live service. With all that jammed into one title, EA actually makes BV a worthy successor of Battlefield 1.

Command & Conquer Remastered Announced

EA announces to remaster Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert from classic real-time strategy game series Command & Conquer.

Back in the 90's developer/publisher Electronic Arts managed to garner a dedicated fan-base for classic real-time strategy game series Command & Conquer. These games continue to influence the genre in modern days even after more than two decades.

Apparently, they intent to bring the series back to PC once again and this new initiative adds the 4K remaster for the titles. EA has partnered up with Petroglyph Games for the project, who previously worked on Guardians of Graxia and Star Wars: Empire at War.

Command & Conquer Remastered Announced

RELATED: Battlefield V Battle Royale "Firestorm" Coming in 2019

Petroglyph houses some of the former developers from Westwood Studios, the original studio that worked on the initial C&C titles. Lead Programmer Joe Bostic was the co-creator of both Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn.

When Westwood was falling, the studio was bought out by EA but that didn't help the franchise anyway. The series saw a bit change but after a series of disappointment, C&C was shelved. E3 2018 saw a revival of games with the announcement of Command & Conquer: Rivals.

RELATED: Crysis Trilogy is Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

However, Rivals is a mobile strategy game Android and iOS that gamers didn't expect or wanted and thus, failed to get the traction EA was hoping to get. So, players can now look up to the Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn getting remastered for a change.

Both of these titles will come in a single remastered collection with three expansion pack Covert Ops, Counterstrike and Aftermath included in it. Don't expect to get your hands on it anytime soon as the development process hasn’t even started yet.

RELATED: Anthem Won't Have Cross-Play or DLC at Launch

The reason for announcing the project way before they development is that Electronic Arts was skeptical if they can remain faithful to the original experiences and waited for the right support for this remaster initiative for the past few months.

In recent time, publishers like Capcom and SEGA has found success by remastering some of their old classics. So, it is quite understandable when EA would join the race as well to make a quick buck from their old work.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for November 2018

PlayStation Plus free games lineup has picked up Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition and Yakuza Kiwami for the month of November 2018.

Hope you are having a blast this Halloween whether trick or treating or just lazily sitting around playing video games, which is probably your favorite thing to do, right? We are at the endgame of the year 2018 and November seems to be very promising (for now).

Last month, not everyone was impressed with survival horror title Friday the 13th: The Game and futuristic sports game Laser League. So, a new free games lineup of this month for PlayStation Plus subscribers has been carefully chosen this time.

playstation plus free games november 2018
PlayStation Plus Free Games for November 2018

Before we just jump into the PS Plus lineup, let's take a quick look at the short clip below showcasing all the titles for November 2018.

The very first game we got our hands onto is a first-person shooter titled Bulletstorm from People Can Fly and Epic Games that Electronic Arts had the Publishing rights to. You can play it in both solo and co-op mode in a 26th century setup.

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition gets you all the exclusive content of the game for a definitive experience. Players will take the role of Grayson Hunt, who runs a black ops team called the Dead Echo and on a mission to either seek payback or survive.

Next up is a remake of the first game from the acclaimed action-adventure Yakuza series, Yakuza Kiwami from Sega and Deep Silver. Originally released on PlayStation 3, the game was later launched on PlayStation 4 in 2016 and now is visually enhanced for 4K.

The game follows the story of Kazuma Kiryu, who is known as the Dragon of Dojima and he takes the fall for a murder of a crime boss at the hands of his friend. When he finally comes out ten years later, he discovers himself in the middle of a mess.

yakuza kiwami game ps4 plus
Yakuza Kiwami on PlayStation Plus Free Games

Some more free games from PlayStation Plus lineup for the month of November 2018 is still there and let's take a quick look at the list below.

  • Jackbox Party Pack 2 (PlayStation 3)
  • Arkedo Series (PlayStation 3)
  • Burly Men At Sea (Cross Buy with PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4)
  • Roundabout (Cross Buy with PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4)

If the Battle Royale genre interests you and you don't mind playing H1Z1 (because this is clearly not PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, nor even Fortnite) then we recommend you get the PlayStation Plus Blueshift Pack with goodies for free until November 13.

Hopefully, Bulletstorm and Yakuza Kiwami will be able to sustain you for the month or long enough till games like Battlefield V, Fallout 76 and Spyro Remastered Trilogy comes out and makes you completely forget everything else.

EA DICE has recently announced that Battlefield V will get its Battle Royale mode "Firestorm" in 2019.

November 20, 2018 is now less than a month away and upcoming first-person shooter game Battlefield V from developer EA DICE and publisher Electronic Arts is awaiting launch on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide.

Previously, the game was scheduled to release on October 19 but were pushed back saying the studio needs time polishing the game and work on Tides of War mode. If that has hurt your anticipation, here comes another one; the game's battle royale mode, Firestorm won't come until 2019.

DICE has recently laid out their plans for post-launch content of the new Battlefield title, which has the surprise reveal of its anticipated battle royale mode Firestorm not launching until March 2019 and no further details on the topic.

This mode will bring a 64-person action experience to players and will allow four-player squads. As a ring of fire closing in on engaged combatants, they will fight for their lives while scavenging for weapons and ride vehicles until the last man or squad remains standing.

Firestorm mode will debut on the third chapter of the planned content roadmap after the first two chapters; Overture and Lightning Strikes. The former features Panzerstorm map for a tank-based battle and new War Story, The Last Tiger along with vehicle customization.

The latter is all about Combined Arms and Squad Conquest for all we know for now. Overture launches within two weeks after the debut of Battlefield 5 and Lightning Strikes will likely to drop from January to March before Chapter 3.

Because of Firestorm not being included in the recently closed Battlefield beta, we have less detail on the game mode. However, focused on World War II, the game hold much promises to shine and entertain all the eagerly waiting fans.

Crysis Trilogy is Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

Xbox One backward compatibility feature brings all three games of the Crysis saga from Xbox 360 platform.

Originally released for PC back in 2007, Crysis from the first-person shooter game series by developer Crytek and publisher Electronic Arts was one of the best games for the platform that was later ported to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.

Modern day eighth generation console players however, never had the pleasure to play the franchise on their respective platforms until now, because the Crysis trilogy of games is available from today on Xbox One via its backwards compatible feature.

Or you can always buy a copy of any of these titles from Xbox online marketplace by spending $19.99 only.

Microsoft gaming network spokesperson Larry Hryb, usually goes by the name Major Nelson on Twitter, has officially announced the good news today on social media.

The first Crysis game follows an alien invasion on an island in 2020 where players take the role of U.S. Army Delta Force soldier Jake Dunn AKA Nomad fighting alien enemies, mercenaries and North Korean soldiers wearing futuristic nanosuit.

A sequel, Crysis 2 came out in 2011, which took place in New York City of 2023 starring US Marine Alcatraz, fighting an outbreak caused by an unknown virus and rescue scientist Nathan Gould. The second sequel, Crysis 3 launched in 2013 and brings back a series regular hero, Prophet.

Though the series had quite the potential for more sequels, the developers decided not to continue because of the poor sales of Crysis 3. The studio is currently focusing their efforts on multiplayer horror shooter title Hunt: Showdown.

Most of the gameplay elements will go hand-in-hand with the multiplayer mode of the game. Meanwhile, watch actor Mark Strong (Shazam!, Kingsman: The Secret Service) lending voice for the story trailer and even dropping F-Bombs to make sure that players stick to their playing objective without deviating.

Everyone is talking about how the Blackout battle royale mode of CoD: BO4 is better than even the pioneer of the genre, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and quite excited to see what promises BF5 holds with their version in Firestorm mode.

Despite facing issues like historical accuracy, a controversy of using female characters that led to a social media stir that probably led to poor pre-order sales, Battlefield V still remains one of 2018's biggest titles regardless of what anyone else thinks about it.

Battlefield V Delay Hurts EA Stock Price

Electronic Arts' stock price sees sinks after developer DICE delays the release of upcoming Battlefield V.

When general manager Oskar Gabrielson of developer EA DICE announced earlier that their upcoming first-person shooter game Battlefield V has been delayed back to November 20 from previously scheduled October 19 for making some adjustment they thought necessary following the Closed Beta program, reactions has been mixed among the gaming community.

However, this one month delay has apparently caused a sudden drop at the stock price of publisher Electronic Arts.

In most cases, when a game is delayed for a month or two, it actually means good in terms of the studio having more time to polish the game before launch. Gabrielson stated that DICE will take this extra time to make some final adjustments to B5 gameplay and their newly introduced Tides of War live service.

While this one will offer players an immersive experience of war from an all-new perspective, several new events will be arranged later for the whole community to enjoy together.

Regardless of what they want the public to believe, EA was carefully moving their release window for Battlefield V from competing with other titles like rival title Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

While this may not upset players much because they are only a few days away from Open Beta on September 6, their sales projections for this fiscal year are lowered as a result of this move. An expected net booking of $5.55 billion has reduced to $5.2 billion, says CNBC.

By Thursday morning, EA's shares have dropped down to almost 10 percent upon the month-long delay announcement. Analysts suggested a weak sales number for the crowded window of October, which has impacted to the decision that led to a price drop of stocks.

The current release date will only have BV competing against Bethesda's Fallout 76 when it launches on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So, as they take this hit right now, it may help them in long run to sell more copies.

Battlefield V Delayed to November

Developer EA DICE has announced a new release date of November 20 for their upcoming game Battlefield V.

Originally scheduled to release on October 19, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, first-person shooter game Battlefield V has now been delayed and pushed back to November 20 by developer EA DICE and publisher Electronic Arts.

After they showed off the game at E3 2018 press conference in June and then recently at Gamescom 2018, a Closed Alpha session was arranged this summer for the latest Battlefield title and the decision to make delay is an apparent result of that.

According to their statement, the developers actually need the extra time to polish the game even more and make some adjustments to ore gameplay experience.

In past, they were more focused on the major battles but this time, they are working more on new aspects of BFV that are not popular or renowned among the players. DICE claims that the newly debuted Tides of War mode will change the course of battle and everyone will witness that when Open Beta launches on September 6.

Despite whatever DICE expects everyone to believe, skeptical fans points out that the real reason of this sudden delay is being competition. We know that pre-order sales report of Battlefield V is looking pretty bad and they simply do not want to struggle with their biggest competitor Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 from Treyarch for sales, which will come out on October 12.

They are also avoiding crossing paths with upcoming anticipating titles like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Fallout 76, Hitman 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

World War II-themed shooter game BF5 is introducing features like dragging teammates or help them heal, to make sure that they come up with the best Battlefield games ever made. The game already won awards for "Best Multiplayer Game" during E3 and Gamescom, which tells us that they really have aced their multiplayer mode this time.

Considering that fact, hopefully waiting a little longer will not be a problem. Besides, in few days we can find out what they are up to in Open Beta.
