Sony Acquires Insomniac Games

Sony has revealed acquiring Insomniac Games, acclaimed developer studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4.

Even with their upcoming ninth-generation console system PlayStation 5 getting closer to launch, Japanese video gaming company Sony has been shying away from spotlight for a while and even skipped E3 2019 press event.

A recent report revealed earlier today that Sony has acquired Insomniac Games, renowned California-based studio that worked on immensely successful 2018 superhero action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4.

Insomniac has made a name for themselves within the industry for their unique way of storytelling and gameplay experience through many fan-favorite titles like Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and Spyro the Dragon.

One of their most successful projects in recent times was Spider-Man title for PS4 that came out in September 2018 and has already sold over 13.2 million copies worldwide by July 2019, according to an official press release.

Although often working on games for PlayStation platform, their development team has worked on Edge of Nowhere for Oculus Rift and vibrant shooter title Sunset Overdrive for Xbox One that was later ported to PC platform.

Insomniac Games were already working pretty closely with Sony for log just like one of their own studios and now having them to develop more first-party games could be impactful for future sales of PS5 consoles when it launches.

Marvel's Spider-Man Becomes Best-Selling Superhero Video Game

Marvel's Spider-Man has become best-selling video game in superhero genre, leaving Batman: Arkham City behind.

Over the years, a number of Spider-Man video games were released but only a few has become very popular among fans or commercially successful as PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018.

Following a September release last year, Spider-Man on PS4 has managed to sell over 9 million copies by January 2019 and now has toppled Batman: Arkham City by becoming best-selling superhero video game of all time in United States.

This news itself is great for Marvel's most iconic superhero since it has only been out for less than a year whereas Arkham City was released back in 2011 by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive for past generation of consoles.

Now it may come as a surprise to many superhero fans considering 2018 Spider-Man game has a Metacritic score of 87, which is great but way inferior than a 96 score set by second Batman title from critically-acclaimed Arkham series.

In an attempt to come up with a definitive title featuring everyone's favorite wallcrawler, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment came up with the most beloved adaptation of Spidey in video games.

Their gameplay emphasis of combat and web-slinging was able to get fans hooked and received a number of awards at The Game Awards 2018. Set on a new and unique continuity, the game has established a standard for future Marvel Games projects.

Besides, Insomniac Games have been trying to keep fans happy with occasional release of variant Spidey suits for free and a series of paid DLC in "The City That Never Sleeps" as post launch to stay engaged and relevant.

In a recent addition, Marvel's Spider-Man has offered players Stealth and Upgraded suits from Spider-Man: Far From Home movie. Also, modern-day social media has helped spread word-of-mouth to reach a broader audience of all-ages.

We probably won't see any major superhero titles surpassing its impressive numbers anytime soon and forthcoming Nintendo Switch-exclusive action RPG game Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is not likely to come any close either.

Upcoming anticipated title Marvel's Avengers from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix may become a major competition next year but only an untitled sequel of Marvel's Spider-Man has the best chance to claim its number one position.

Marvel's Spider-Man Adds Far From Home Suits

Swing into some Marvel's Spider-Man action today with newly added Upgraded Suit and Stealth Suit of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

For a while, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment have not rolled out any major content update for their action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 but that streak is over now.

To celebrate global release of Spider-Man: Far From Home from Marvel Cinematic Universe, two brand-new outfits featured in the movie is now added to Spider-Man on PS4 for all players as free DLC via Patch 1.16.

Marvel's Spider-Man Gets 33% Price Drop

PS4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man gets a permanent price drop and now priced $39.99 only.

Without a doubt, Marvel's Spider-Man from developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment is one of the biggest games of 2018 and we have an overwhelming fan-response to back that claim up as well.

Though the hype for this PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure title has been died down a little after the five months of launch and people are being ready for new games in 2019, Sony decided to offer a big discount on the title and took $20 off permanently.

Bringing the price down to $39.99 for Spider-Man on PS4 is not something new that the company has done. During Black Friday of 2018, the game was discounted by the same amount and was also given away with a limited edition Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle.

However, this permanent price drop on one of the best games of 2018 can cause a small spike on the sales number once again. Many fans who waited for an occasion like this would probably reach out their controller now to go swinging in New York as Spidey.

As soon as the hype died down, Sony dropped price on Detroit: Become Human, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus Remastered too on last year. You can now purchase the game from Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, PlayStation Store and Walmart on the discounted price.

Within the month of its release, Marvel's Spider-Man managed to become the fastest-selling PS4 game ever and even earned more than the opening weekend of Spider-Man: Homecoming movie by selling over 3.3 million physical copies.

The family of four has teamed-up with the Webhead on multiple occasions and was even featured in many mini-series of their own. One of the writers of the game, Christos Gage (Thunderbolts – Secret Invasion, World War Hulk – X-Men) has penned one in 2010 titled "Spider-Man/Fantastic Four".

In Amazing Spider-Man #258, Spidey goes to Fantastic Four headquarter seeking help to get rid of the alien symbiote he was wearing as a costume, which later eventually became Venom. They were successful of getting rid of the suit but he was left only in his underpants.

Spider-Man had to borrow one of their costumes but since they don't have masks, the Human Torch had to improvise an idea to conceal Peter Parker's secret identity and he gave him a grocery bag to wear, thus came the identity of the Bombastic Bag-Man.

So, 2018 wasn't particularly bad for the commercially successful action-adventure game from developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive. Things are going to get better by the end of the month as the third chapter of The City That Never Sleeps DLC series is coming on December 21.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Becomes Fastest-Selling PS4 Game Ever

Marvel’s Spider-Man breaks record and dethrones God of War by becoming fastest-selling PS4 title ever.

Today's pop culture generation is largely dominated by superheroes whether they appear in comics, movies or even on TV series but very rarely as video games. That is because, studios are afraid to fail in delivering an honest to source adaptation and therefore having a poor reception.

Except for the Batman: Arkham series in the past, very few have succeeded both commercially and critically in this genre, until the recent release of PlayStation 4-exclusive title Marvel’s Spider-Man that has sold over 3.3 million copies within the first three days after launch while winning the hearts of critics as well.

The game has a retail price of $59.99 and 3.3 million copies literally translate to an estimated sum of $198 million, which clearly surpasses the opening weekend box office collection of $117 million by last year's Spider-Man: Homecoming movie.

The figure of game units sold also includes limited edition Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle sales but they didn't reveal how many units have they sold of this bundles. This definitely creates a history as it has even exceeded the sales of 2018's God of War.

Previously, there was many other iteration of the wall-crawling hero from New York, released over the platforms like Gameboy, PlayStation, Wii U and Xbox over the years. However, none came any closer to what developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment brought to the table.

Even after their attempt to mildly reinvent the age-old legacy of Spidey to a modern day audience, gameplay, graphics and story of the game was heavily praised by all.

RELATED: Marvel’s Spider-Man Gameplay Launch Trailer

The very concept of Spider-Man was created by writer Stan Lee (Thor, X-Men) and artist Steve Ditko (Hawk and Dove, Legion of Super-Heroes) in 1962 for Marvel Comics as he first appeared on the pages of in Amazing Fantasy, issue #15.

Then almost twenty years after, Spider-Man makes his first appearance in video game on 1982 for Atari 2600 system, which was simply titled after the name of the hero and also was the very first video game that featured a character from Marvel.

Sony is heavily excited about this because, Marvel’s Spider-Man is a first-party video game title that has come out for weeks now and the overwhelmingly positive consumer feedback suggests that it will sell a ton more in the upcoming months.

Insomniac Games have finally did some justice to Spider-Man by putting him into a game that tells more than a story of superhero and shows it to the world why he is the amazing friendly neighborhood bug that everyone is so very fond of.

Marvel's Spider-Man Sequel May Feature Symbiote Suit & Venom

Insomniac's game director teases Venom and the Symbiote for a possible sequel of Marvel's Spider-Man.

Newly released action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment on PlayStation 4 has been doing exceptionally well. Not only fans love it but review-aggregation sites are also leaving very positive remarks as well.

Although the story premise created for the game is pretty self-contained for Spidey fans to enjoy over and over, seems like the development team have left more elements to explore in a possible sequel.

While announcing the release of the game, Insomniac notified the fans about including some extra suits and everyone is busy going through the story mode, collecting backpacks, complete the side-missions and unlock dozens of new suits.

Many different versions of his suits from both comics and movies are among the list but one fan-favorite particular one, Spider-Man's Symbiote suit is surprisingly missing from the game. Are they part of some larger plans by the developers?

RELATED: Marvel’s Spider-Man Comics Inspirations

Insomniac Games' creative director Bryan Intihar recently came to an interview talking about the game and in a deep discussion with parts that contains spoiler, he revealed that they indeed have plans for a sequel.

When asked about the reason for not including the iconic symbiote suit, he stated that they really want to explore the story behind the suit and do proper justice to it, because it simply deserves to have a better status than just a mere unlockable suit.

I think something like that suit (symbiote suit) deserves its day in the spotlight. I think just making it an unlockable suit wouldn't be doing it justice. It's one of the best stories for Spider-Man. I think it's a complex story. And I think it's a story that needs to be told, and it needs to be told the way Insomniac would tell it.
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN.

In post-credits scene, we see that Norman Osborn has kept his terminally ill son Harry Osborn in a holding tank filled with green liquid and held by a black web-like substance as they try to cure him.

When he places his hand on the tank Osborn didn't notice that it eventually reacts by imitating his move. Now, this sticky black goop definitely is the Venom symbiote and the sequel may either have the villain making his debut or will take Peter as a host before it finally finds out Eddie Brock.

During the "Secret Wars" crossover event in 1984, the black Symbiote suit was first worn by Spider-Man when his original red and blue one was damaged in a fight. Initially he noticed a presence of sentience within it but never paid much attention until it bonded with him further and starts affecting his behavior.

Once he realized that how much it is altering his personality, Peter managed to get rid of the suit and then it found Eddie Brock, with whom it bonded and became Venom.

A live-action Venom movie starring actor Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) is releasing in less than a month, which will create some hype for the character in advance even though fans are well aware of him.
