Overwatch's Symmetra Will Be Removed From Support

After a patch released back in December 2016, Symmetra is still not one of Overwatch heroes that players pick so often. She is now the only hero capable two ultimates; one of which is Teleporter and the other being Shield Generator. Her small shields are reworked into large photon barrier to make her support stronger. Even the League pros seem to avoid playing with her despite crowd pleading. On the other hand, players have been asking questions about her upcoming changes on the game’s forums.

Symmetra brings nice balance of diversity into the huge mix of character from this team-based shooter as a hero. In her solo comic-book "A Better World", she is seen to make use of her hard light technology for making bridges and sphere-shaped shields used for defense from enemy attack. It's just like how the fictional species of Shi'ar from Marvel Comics uses their tech that eventually helped the X-Men build their Danger Room training simulation.

In a recent Interview with Overwatch developer Timothy Ford recently revealed that Symmetra will no longer remain in a support role but will become a defense hero after they are done working on her. What they are targeting here is to make her character more flexible through some dramatic change. Though they cannot reveal much detail because of the work-in-progress and what part of hers is actually their focus of development yet but suggested people will find out as they play Overwatch.

"We are discussing the change right now, and although we can’t tell you the details of each change, we would still like to let you know it will be a fairly dramatic change. One thing we can tell you is that Symmetra will turn from a support hero to a defense hero after the remake. Our aim is to make the usage of Symmetra even more flexible from it."

Hopefully, this change will be proven revolutionary for her character because players mostly treat Symmetra as an odd support and avoiding her in their fold using the in-game "Avoid as Teammate" system, which was actually introduced to as a measure against abusive players. Hints also suggest that she will be able to heal her teammates as well and she is already good for shielding support. Taking her for defense also suggests that Blizzard is probably done with non-healing support.

Recently, Brigitte joining as a support hero has given this unique class some boost in spite of still having Ana and Moira in the roster. Bottom line is, we are getting a new Defense hero, who is getting changed from another class and most likely to have a brand-new version of her to make things interesting. Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, team-based multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
