More than three years after launch in February 2017, action role-playing game NieR: Automata from developer Platinum Games and publisher Square Enix has officially managed to sell over 5 million copies worldwide by December 2020.

In less than a week after reaching a major sales milestone lately, a well hidden secret was found within 2017 sequel of NieR nearly four years of initial release, in form of an in-game cheat code that allows you to skip directly to final ending.

There has been an abundance of Easter eggs and hidden secrets in Automata that many players have already unlocked. However, it was teased by developers a few years ago a "final secret" is yet to be discovered by anyone until recently.

Fans kept digging for what else there is to find and it was eventually found by Lance McDonald, who has been at it for some time. He figured out a cheat code that will let players to skip entire game to final ending after defeating first boss.

McDonald uploads a video walkthrough on YouTube as a tutorial guide to perform final secret cheat code.

You can only activate the code after defeating first boss unit Marx by placing lead character 2B and perform a combination of attacks, moves and rolls in specific order while standing into an exact spot between two sets of three barrels.

McDonald states that this trick is an actual cheat code that developers coded to in-game engine and not a random glitch. In a few hours, game director Yoko Taro took notice of his findings and confirms it to be "final secret" in a reply Tweet.

Australian dataminer and modder Lance McDonald previously found a variety of secrets within Bloodborne and Silent Hills "Playable Teaser". He also promised to release a full video detailing new cheat code on his YouTube channel soon.

Considering his track record, it's not much of a surprise for McDonald to dig out final secret of NieR: Automata. He had to literally spend hundreds of hours to go through all games codes and reverse engineer this undiscovered secret trick.

Once you successfully enter the code, it will skip post-credits scene, chapter select feature and some debugging features will be unlocked. These aspects typically become accessible once you are done clearing several Nier endings earlier.

NieR: Automata offer a number of routes for players to explore even after completing their first playthrough and reaching ending A. There are additional endings to unlock, adding replayability and encouraging fans to play more than once.
