His work on the project has earned him a huge popularity within Western gaming industry and Japan. Fox was even invited to collaborate with Masahiro Sakurai and created a remix track of "Megalovania" for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Before working on Sword & Shield, Toby Fox has also composed soundtracks of Little Town Hero, a turn-based RPG game for Nintendo Switch and a non-Pokémon title from Game Freak that just came out in October.

When Fox was asked to do a score by Game Freak, he considered this as a great honor to be a part of the highly-anticipated game. However, he clarified in a follow-up Tweet that he is not at all doing a key track or something like that.

Pokémon Sword and Shield is only weeks away from launch on November 15 and following controversy regarding removal of Pokédex, developers probably thought bringing Undertale creator on board may help win over a few fans back.

Pokémon Sword and Shield Won't Reuse Models from 3DS Games

Game Freak confirms that all models for upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield were remade from scratch.

A decision made by developer Game Freak to limit Pokedex for their upcoming role-playing game Pokémon Sword and Shield was revealed during Nintendo's live presentation at E3 2019, which proved to be an unpopular idea among fans.

However, a new rumor came to light afterwards that they are possibly reusing models from latest Nintendo 3DS games but that wild theory has been debunked in a recent Famitsu interview by Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori of Game Freak.

Even though it was quite difficult for the studio to import a full Pokédex numbering more than 800 for Pokémon Sun and Moon, they managed to do it. Now that number has reached over 1,000 and a decision had to be made sooner or later.

Even though improved graphics and visual of Nintendo Switch system only increased development period, they actually rebuilt each new model from scratch for Sword and Shield, taxing more time to make animations more beautiful and lively.

This reason was what primarily forced them to decide limiting Pokedex for Sword/Shield, so that people gets used to this change. On top of that, devs had to work on Dynamax and Mega Evolution for all Pokémon, requiring more balancing time.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will globally launch for Nintendo Switch handheld consoles on November 15, 2019. Game Freak don't intend to make players feel past Pokémon to be worthless and will find a way for them to shine in future.
