As a worthy successor of Souls series, Sekiro has successfully beaten down other contenders like Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 Remake to climb on top of most-played games chart of Steam, currently sitting at number four spot of that list.

On Sunday, March 24, the title had a recorded peak of 124,334 numbers of concurrent players at Valve's digital distribution platform. Of course, this is not an actual number of sales as we need to account physical copies and other distribution channels to figure out overall sales number.

By count, Sekiro is currently topping games like Grand Theft Auto V, Rainbow Six Siege and Team Fortress 2, which is truly a huge deal for a single-player game these days. It also is the third-largest Japanese game behind Dark Souls III and Monster Hunter: World.

To siege top spot, all it needs to do is to dethrone Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and DOTA 2 respectively. It would take another 800,000 players to become the most-played game on Steam.

Sekiro sends players on a personal journey of a titular shinobi warrior to rescue his young lord from a samurai of Ashina clan using his ninja skills and a prosthetic arm. The game challenges you with a difficulty level that even rivals to games from infamous Dark Souls franchise.

Announced back at E3 2018, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice adapts to an evolved combat system inspired by aspects of both action and role-playing aspects of past From Software games on a medieval fantasy premise during Sengoku period of Japan.
