Mortal Kombat Movie Casts Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero

The Raid actor Joe Taslim is cast in role of Sub-Zero by Warner Bros. for upcoming Mortal Kombat movie reboot.

Although video game movie adaptations have earned a reputation of being thrashed by critics and fans alike, a few of them like Detective Pikachu and Rampage were actually able to somehow stand out among others in recent years.

Besides, Warner Bros. has been planning for a Mortal Kombat movie reboot for some time that announced a 2021 release date and has cast Indonesian actor Joe Taslim (Fast & Furious 6, The Night Comes for Us) in a prominent role of Sub-Zero.

Also a skilled martial artist, Taslim found initial recognition through his 2011 starrer The Raid that is considered as a cult action film. He is the first actor to be cast for upcoming MK movie, which is scheduled to start shooting later this year.

There was little to do for Sub-Zero in original Mortal Kombat movie from 1995 where he ended up getting killed by Liu Kang. Taslim is likely to appear as second iteration of the character, Kuai Liang in latest script of screenwriter Greg Russo.

After hiring Simon McQuoid as director, WB has signed James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) on board as producer for the film. McQuoid has previously directed commercials for Duracell, Netflix and even Sony's PlayStation 3.

New Line Cinema and WB initially approached writer Dave Callaham (Doom, The Expendables) and Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox) trying to reboot Mortal Kombat movie series but Russo delivered them a final script.
