New Suicide Squad Game Teased

Rocksteady Studios teases upcoming Suicide Squad game ahead of DC Fandom event on August 22, 2020.

Back in June, there has been a rumor of Rocksteady Studios was reportedly working on a brand-new Suicide Squad game from a series of leaked domain names and believed to be revealed at upcoming DC Fandom event in August 2020.

Just today, Rocksteady released a new teaser image of Superman and logo for their newest Suicide Squad game on Twitter, with a brief tagline to reveal more information about the ongoing project at DC Fandom on August 22, 2020.

A silhouette of Superman and a Suicide Squad logo on his head as a target actually nods back to a previously leaked domain "", hinting at a possible clash between DC's anti-hero squad and Justice League.

According to early rumors, Suicide Squad will hunt down Man of Steel and fellow members of Justice League as part of their mission. In recent years, DC Comics has explored similar ideas in "Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad" story in 2017.

EA Hints at Acquiring Warner Bros. Interactive

According to reports, Electronic Arts is interested in purchasing Warner Bros. Interactive from parent company AT&T.

Right after buying out WarnerMedia company back in 2018, Texas-based telecommunications company AT&T has announced to sell off its video game division Warner Bros. Interactive for $4 billion in a shocking revelation last month.

Earlier this month, rumors of Microsoft Studios being a potential buyer was out there but that has since been died down. Most recently, one of the top-executives of Electronic Arts hinted at possibilities of acquiring WB Interactive soon.

A week ago, a WB Interactive games digital sale on Microsoft Store apparently teased of an announcement during Xbox Games Showcase digital event but they never really talked about anything regarding a buyout of WB Games.

Player community across different gaming platforms are curious to know who will end up owning Warner Bros. Interactive, acquiring license for known franchises like Batman: Arkham, Injustice, LEGO, Middle-Earth and Mortal Kombat.

Blake Jorgensen, COO of EA has revealed interest in acquiring new talent but he didn't specify about Warner Bros. Interactive particularly. During recent earnings call for Q1, he mentioned of "one big asset" when asked for acquisition strategy.

He also clarified that EA is largely interested in attaining studio talent than simply owning their game franchises. One of the classic examples for such buyout is attainment of Titanfall series developer Respawn Entertainment back in 2017.

About a possible buyout of Warner Bros. Interactive, Blake Jorgensen gave out a very indicative statement.

I can't comment on any specific acquisition other than what I will tell you is, as you've seen in the past, where we've done the best is where we have long-term relationships with people, and we're really trying to buy great talent versus games.

Whosoever owns WB Interactive will receive access to its subsidiary developer Avalanche Software, Monolith Productions, NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady Studios, TT Games and several studios of WB Games in U.S. and Canada.

Even though a buyout takes place, in-development Warner Bros. IPs like new Harry Potter and Batman game will not be part of that deal. Jorgensen could also be talking about EA's business practices than teasing to purchase WB Games.

Warner Bros. Cancelled Two Superman Games

According to rumors, Warner Bros. has developed and cancelled two open-world Superman games from 2013.

In a day and age of superhero comics, movies and TV shows, only a few renowned characters among many has made a booming transition into popular video games like Batman: Arkham series and Marvel's Spider-Man.

According to industry insider James Sigfield, Warner Bros. has been trying to make an open-world Superman game since 2013 by taking pitches from many parties and has cancelled two of them in past six years period.

One of these titles was going the same way of 2018's best-selling superhero adventure game Spider-Man for PlayStation 4. It was supposed to have Man of Steel flying around in an open-world Metropolis fighting many of his arch-nemesis.

For reasons unknown, this title has got canned in a prototype stage of development, followed by another one titled Superman: Unborn that met the same fate by publisher company Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.

Instead of setting around in Metropolis, "Unborn" was planned to be less of an open-world to limit Superman's strength. It was set within bottled city of Kandor and had both Brainiac and Doomsday as primary antagonists among a few others.

This part of detail seems to tie to previous a leak from May 2018 on image-based online bulletin board 4chan that mentioned Brainiac as its main villain. However, that rumored title had Metropolis as its premise instead of Kandor.

Unborn ended up being cancelled because Warner Bros. was adamant for developers to use Arkham engine, which is a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3 that has also been used to work on their latest release Injustice 2.

Due to such requirement and limitations of that engine, dev team couldn't get Superman to fly. Apparently, they have cancelled an untitled Suicide Squad game featuring characters like DeathStroke, Harley Quinn and Katana as well.

Street Fighter Cameo in Mortal Kombat Rejected by Capcom

A cameo by Street Fighter character in Mortal Kombat series was proposed but shot down by Capcom.

Video game crossover is an idea that is most commonly adapted in fighting games and a very popular among fans. Often times they would collaborate with inter-company franchises or bring out fighters from third-party series.

There was a time when Mortal Kombat creator has requested for characters from their rival series Street Fighter to make a cameo in their brutally violent fighting title but that proposal was eventually declined by folks at Capcom.

It was revealed recently in an interview with Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono that Ed Boon has reached out for a cameo appearance of a character from Capcom's fighting games into one of NetherRealm Studios' own.

People working at Capcom back then was collectively uncomfortable with the idea of Street Fighter icons like Chun-Li or Ryu getting viciously murdered by Kitana, Scorpion or Sub-Zero with a deadly "Fatality" finishing move.

RELATED: Mortal Kombat 11 Adds Terminator T-800

Yoshinori Ono talked details about a collaboration effort between both parties and how it fell down in the end.

It's true that a proposal for a Street Fighter character in Mortal Kombat was rejected by Capcom. But it wasn't me personally! There were many people at the company that felt that it wasn't a good fit for our characters. I actually met Ed at the Brazil game show and spoke to him personally about it. So it's true - but I didn't make the decision!

Characters from these two popular franchises have made a name for them within gaming industry and have appeared in many different games from other companies but they never crossed paths with each other yet.

Although their characters do not match well due to tonal differences, a possibility for future collaboration is not necessarily ruled out since they have fair share of crossover like Marvel Vs. Capcom and SNK Vs. Capcom series under their belt.

RELATED: The King of Fighters XV Announced

Despite belonging to fighting games genre, both MK series and SF are popular among fans for distinct traits like addictive gameplay or gory combat moves with an established lore full of charismatic characters to back that up.

Once, both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games have totally dominated arcade era but that competition has cooled down when these titles found a new home in consoles to a wide range of audience from different ages.

NetherRealm collided with Injustice franchise previously and brought heroes of DC Universe to their game. Even though it didn't work out this time, Capcom is always more than happy to work in partnership if they find something they like.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for September 2019

PlayStation Plus free games lineup is featuring Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders III for the month of September 2019.

Up until now, Sony Entertainment has been giving away fairly good free PlayStation 4 games in their monthly lineup for PlayStation Plus subscribers, except for July 2019 but they made a change on last minute due to member request.

Those free titles from August are still up for PS Plus members to download before next batch of game arrives on September 3, 2019. So, take time to enjoy WipEout Omega Collection or Sniper Elite 4 if you have somehow missed them.

Earlier this year, Sony's decision not to continue adding games for PlayStation 3 consoles have been a bit unpleasant for fans since they had a lineup of four to six games back then and now their option to choose has become limited.

Given that PlayStation Plus free games lineup has slightly improved from a downwards trend, Sony has probably listened to fan complaints and therefore, replaced Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 at last minute with Detroit: Become Human.
