Marvel's Spider-Man Becomes Best-Selling Superhero Video Game

Marvel's Spider-Man has become best-selling video game in superhero genre, leaving Batman: Arkham City behind.

Over the years, a number of Spider-Man video games were released but only a few has become very popular among fans or commercially successful as PlayStation 4-exclusive action-adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man from 2018.

Following a September release last year, Spider-Man on PS4 has managed to sell over 9 million copies by January 2019 and now has toppled Batman: Arkham City by becoming best-selling superhero video game of all time in United States.

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella of NPD Group has confirmed it by posting a lifetime video games sales chart on Twitter.

This news itself is great for Marvel's most iconic superhero since it has only been out for less than a year whereas Arkham City was released back in 2011 by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive for past generation of consoles.

Now it may come as a surprise to many superhero fans considering 2018 Spider-Man game has a Metacritic score of 87, which is great but way inferior than a 96 score set by second Batman title from critically-acclaimed Arkham series.

In an attempt to come up with a definitive title featuring everyone's favorite wallcrawler, developer Insomniac Games and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment came up with the most beloved adaptation of Spidey in video games.

Their gameplay emphasis of combat and web-slinging was able to get fans hooked and received a number of awards at The Game Awards 2018. Set on a new and unique continuity, the game has established a standard for future Marvel Games projects.

Besides, Insomniac Games have been trying to keep fans happy with occasional release of variant Spidey suits for free and a series of paid DLC in "The City That Never Sleeps" as post launch to stay engaged and relevant.

In a recent addition, Marvel's Spider-Man has offered players Stealth and Upgraded suits from Spider-Man: Far From Home movie. Also, modern-day social media has helped spread word-of-mouth to reach a broader audience of all-ages.

We probably won't see any major superhero titles surpassing its impressive numbers anytime soon and forthcoming Nintendo Switch-exclusive action RPG game Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is not likely to come any close either.

Upcoming anticipated title Marvel's Avengers from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix may become a major competition next year but only an untitled sequel of Marvel's Spider-Man has the best chance to claim its number one position.

The Last of Us Part II Rumored to Release in February 2020

Rumor suggests The Last of Us Part II is going to release for PS4 in February 2020 with four different editions.

Fans are eagerly waiting to get any update on upcoming PlayStation 4 action-adventure game The Last of Us Part II but we don't have a definitive release date from developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment yet.

We do know that back in May 2019, shooting for TLoU2 was finally wrapped, which was revealed by game director Neil Druckmann on Twitter and according to a newly leaked rumor from ResetEra, is releasing on February 2020.

A recent post at ResetEra forum claims for the game to come out in February, 2020 and earlier this year, same source has leaked a possible November release of Hideo Kojima's mysterious title Death Stranding ahead of its grand reveal.

It also claims The Last of Part II will be available in four different versions; Standard, Special, Collector's and Ellie Edition. Though it is not confirmed what "Ellie Edition" would feature but it certainly is going to be most expensive among all four.

RELATED: The Last of Us Part II Only Playable Character is Ellie

As a sequel to critically acclaimed title The Last of Us from 2013, Part II is currently one of the most anticipated games on PS4. Despite being announced during 2016 PlayStation Experience event, it doesn't have a launch window so far.

Apparently, PlayStation will see launch to some notable AAA-exclusive titles like Death Stranding and Final Fantasy VII Remake by latter half of 2019 and beginning of 2020 but TLoU2 has yet to claim a release window in the mean time.

RELATED: Sony Reveals PlayStation 5 Console Plans

Considering this leak to be true, TLoU sequel is going to come out months before Cyberpunk 2077, FFVII Remake and Watch Dogs: Legion. Plus, February 2020 makes sense as there are no other bigger releases nearing that window.

We are in Q3 of current financial year and it doesn't look like The Last of Us Part II will drop within rest of 2019. Instead, Sony may announce an official launch date through an upcoming State of Play presentation since they already skipped E3 2019.

PlayStation Plus Changes PES 2019 for Detroit: Become Human

Sony makes a last minute change on PS Plus lineup for July by swapping Detroit: Become Human for PES 2019.

Although Sony Entertainment has already announced their upcoming free PlayStation 4 games lineup for monthly PlayStation Plus subscribers a few days ago, they are apparently changing initially listed games with another at last minute.

Originally, acclaimed football simulator game Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 was announced to come to PS Plus free games giveaway but now that has been swapped with adventure title Detroit: Become Human from Quantic Dream.

This interactive action-adventure was previously offered by Sony to members of PS Plus service in July 2018 but is a great opportunity to catch it up once again for those who missed it back then and people are actually getting three titles in total.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for July 2019

PlayStation Plus free games lineup will feature Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo for the month of July 2019.

Already halfway through this year, we are looking forward to Sony Entertainment coming up with some more lineups of free PlayStation 4 games for their PlayStation Plus monthly subscribers that actually offers them a good time.

Members of PS Plus had their hands on first-person shooter Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and platform game Sonic Mania last month. A look ahead at upcoming listing suggests that July 2019 is going to be a sport themed month.

Step into Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, a football simulation game from a long-running franchise by developer PES Productions and publisher Konami to feel the thrill of international soccer competition at your own home with your favorite players.

Some of real-world top licensed leagues are featured in PES 2019 but players can always choose to pursue own club career in myClub and Master League modes. You can jump into local co-op for up to 4 players or just head online for greater challenges.

Next in line comes an arcade racing title Horizon Chase Turbo from developer/publisher Aquiris Game Studio. Originally, they released the game for mobile devices back in 2015 and only came up with an upgraded port for consoles last year.

To capture '90s nostalgia of many iconic racing games, developers improvised on key elements of this genre from golden age. In a classic split-screen local multiplayer mode, you can tag along up to three of your friends to drive through places.

Up until last month, PS Plus was offering mostly average games each month and ever since Sony stopped giving out free PS3 or Vita games, many subscribers are complaining that they are not receiving enough value worth the price they are paying each month.

By July 2, these two above-mentioned PS4 games will become available for PlayStation Plus members to download for free and those who somehow missed free games from June can pick them up in the meantime when there are still a few days left.

Death Stranding May Come to PC

After a timed exclusive period on PlayStation 4, Hideo Kojima's upcoming masterpiece Death Stranding may come to PC.

After action focused PlayStation 4 game Death Stranding has revealed its upcoming release date lately, a new rumor starting spreading around that it may also be coming to PC and that is something people are wondering for a while.

Italian journalist Antonio Fucito recently hints on a Twitch stream that the game is speculated to have a timed PS4 exclusivity period of around six months or so and then a PC version is very much possible to happen if not 100% confirmed.

He already established his credentials with sources earlier when he posted the game's release date 24 hours ahead of reveal on Twitter.

Fucito also reflected on its box art not featuring "Only on PlayStation" branding because DS will probably arrive on PC on a later date but there won't be an Xbox One version. He is not sure if it will remain exclusive for six month or a whole year though.

We have yet to have a confirmation from developer Kojima Productions and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment if any of his claims are true but he never has claimed once that any of this information he shared is concrete.

RELATED: Death Stranding Confirmed for 2019 by Best Buy?

Even before Kojima Productions and Sony came up with a definitive title for their team-up effort, there was mention of a PC release in a now-deleted Medium Q&A post by EU community manager of PlayStation back in 2015.

That being said, Sony has never marketed Death Stranding as a PS4-exclusive, even in promo arts. Considering how Quantic Dream studio has brought their PlayStation games to PC most recently, there surely is some loophole in exclusivity term.

RELATED: Death Stranding Introduces Troy Baker's Character

Besides, game director Hideo Kojima and his studio are using Decima Engine from Guerrilla Games, which is owned by Sony and Kojima wouldn't be able to resist much if they decide to release the game on PC at a later date.

Antonio Fucito clarified that Death Stranding coming to PC is not 100% confirmed as its release date, which he knew in advance. His speculated solely based on lack of an exclusivity logo on box and initial announcement of 2015 but he is still pretty sure about his claim.

PlayStation Plus free games lineup has picked up Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania for the month of June 2019.

Lately, Sony Entertainment has been failing to keep up with expectation of PlayStation Plus monthly subscribers with their somewhat decent to barely mediocre titles in their monthly free PlayStation 4 games lineup for past few months.

However, they might have actually listened to their community and having a look at their current offering, it is rather safe to say that PS Plus members would have a better experience this month of June than what they had in May.

Bloodborne Hack Lets You Play as Enemies

A modder has come up with an enemy control feature hack that would allow you to play as enemies in Bloodborne.

Although modding is a fairly familiar concept to players on PC platform, sometime skilled modders find a way to hack into games on consoles and one such event has happened recently with 2015 PlayStation 4-exclusive title Bloodborne.

An Australian modder named Lance McDonald has hacked into the code of From Software game to find a backdoor that would allow him to take control over beastly creatures roaming in Yharnam to learn its behind-the-scene secrets.

RELATED: George R.R. Martin Hints at From Software Collaboration Rumor

McDonald previously hacked into action RPG game Dark Souls III to unearth secrets like an early version of Consumed King, Oceiros holding his young boy Ocelotte during a fight and more that were eventually cut off from final release.

His latest mod will let player take over any enemy or even bosses just by locking on to them, thus enabling you to wander around your surroundings and having a completely different perspective of how those creatures work.

RELATED: Quadriplegic Gamer Proves Sekiro Needs No Easy Mode

In his first Tweet, McDonald displays how he swapped control of an enemy with The Hunter to practically test it out.

RELATED: Dark Souls 3 Secret Bonfire System Revealed

Developers have deactivated such options before shipping their finished product but he used these functions from debug menu and though they were originally built for testing controls, it is fun to see them work in real-time.

However, one may never actually finish the entire Bloodborne game using his enemy control feature since they are unable to climb ladders or even hurt other monsters ad going too far away from player would cause them to despawn.

RELATED: Player Beats Sekiro All Bosses, No-Hit

He showed more usage of a debugging feature he found within in a follow-up Tweet to access more in-game enemies.

RELATED: PlayStation Now Adds Bloodborne and More

With a plan to test out this interesting feature in other From Software games, McDonald added enemy control into action-adventure title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and then shared a video clip of his successful progress on Twitter as well.

RELATED: Sekiro is Biggest Steam Game of Q1 2019

Instead of simply locking onto an enemy to immediately taking control of them, McDonald decided to come up with a special button combination that would require for players to press when they wished to control them and that is hard.

This perhaps is one of his most recent works but Lance McDonald has been working on mods for several From Software titles that he shares on his YouTube channel on a regular basis and enabling other content creators to work with those.

Also, people were apparently less mad at Sony this time since last time their dislike ratio on the presentation on YouTube was double than likes for no reason that mattered and this time, that ratio has been only half of its overall like count.

What we gathered from second State of Play stream is that many are relatively happy upon receiving update on MediEvil and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Plus, many who were waiting for latest news on MHW expansion Iceborne got some more info as well.

Days Gone Outsold God of War at Launch in Japan

Sales number is seemingly higher for survival horror game Days Gone than God of War at its launch week in Japan.

Although action-adventure survival horror title Days Gone has its fair share of issues with in-game bugs and biased reviews from some major outlets, it has been voted by fans as one of the best new game launched in April 2019.

This latest PlayStation 4-exclusive game from developer SIE Bend Studio and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment has failed to satisfy Western audience at large but looks like, players in Japan loved it even more than God of War.

According to recent reports, the game has sold an overall amount of 114,319 copies in Japanese market on its first week of launch, which is almost three times over for 46,091 units sold by last year's critically acclaimed game God of War.

Of course sales numbers of Japan is not necessarily going to bring major shift in Europe and United States territories but it remains a statement to those who sidelined it as another zombie game and even gave it a tepid review.

Besides, it became Players' Choice winner for April in an official poll while remaining one of the top downloaded games at PlayStation Store, only behind NetherRealm's newest entry Mortal Kombat 11 and ahead of World War Z.

It may not have been able to keep up the hype initially created after an official announcement at E3 2016 and may not contain a gripping story, Bend Studio is still committed to their fan-base and promised to bring free post-launch DLC in June.

Often time players are very critical about technical flaws in major AAA video games, especially when it took a seven year period in development and delayed official release window a few times over before launching on April 26.

Despite its flaws, Days Gone offers you a pretty decent gameplay experience to enjoy a ride with outlaw Deacon St. John in a world ravaged by a global pandemic that turned every infected person into a zombie like rabid creature.
