Baldur's Gate 3 Wins Game of The Year at The Game Awards 2023

The Game Awards 2023 has awarded Larian Studios' role-playing game Baldur's Gate III as winner of "Game of the Year".

Having a number of great releases throughout this year, 2023 was quite eventful and brought a handful of worthy nominees for "Game of the Year" at annual celebration of The Game Awards 2023 to a live audience at Microsoft Theater.

In a not so surprising turn of events, 2023 role-playing game Baldur's Gate III has been awarded as "Game of the Year" with five other categories and gets released across Xbox Series X/S today out of nowhere amidst TGA 2023 livestream.


Leading with eight nominations in a variety of categories, 2023 survival horror game Alan Wake II by Remedy Entertainment was a fellow contender for GOTY, which won for Best Art Direction, Game Direction and Narrative choice at TGA.

Nintendo lost GOTY to BG3 but ended up winning Best Action/Adventure Game for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They also won accolade in Best Family Game category for Super Mario Bros. Wonder among other nominees.


Despite being nominated in seven categories, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ended up winning nothing at TGA 2023. Bethesda Softworks' long-awaited Starfield was largely absent from all groups and even lost for best role-playing game to BGIII.

Capcom's newest entry in long-running fighting game series, Street Fighter 6 was picked as Best Fighting Game among other nominees. Monster Hunter: Wilds gets officially revealed alongside Marvel's Blade and several upcoming games.


Hollywood movie stars like Timothée Chalamet and Simu Liu has showed up to announce major winners. Renowned game developer Hideo Kojima and film director Jordan Peele reveals a first-look at newest Xbox partnership project OD.

The Game Awards 2023 also premiered bunch of new game trailers and revealed exciting news for fans. However, host Geoff Keighley was criticized for focusing on celebrity appearances with no acknowledgement of recent mass layoffs.
